My mother has been a resident at Old Shenfield Place for two years and is a new woman. Although she has mobility issues, she prefers not to use a wheelchair and loves the independence afforded to her by the staff. Whenever I visit, she is full of praise for the staff and tells me how much she enjoys
the activities arranged for the residents and cannot understand why there is not more take-up of these. On my visits, the staff, without exception, seem to enjoy their work and treat those they are responsible for with feeling and compassion. I would absolutely recommend Old Shenfield Place to anybody looking for a residential care home for their parents.
Reply from Kate Wyatt, Administrator at Old Shenfield PlaceThank you so much for your kind words and thoughtful review. We're absolutely delighted to hear that your mother is thriving at Old Shenfield Place and enjoying the activities-it means the world to us.Our team takes great pride in creating a compassionate and supportive environment where every resident can feel valued and at home, and it's wonderful to know that this is shining through in your experience. We'll be sure to share your lovely feedback with the entire team-it will mean a lot to them!

My mum came to Old Shenfield Place in October 2024. She had been through a distressing time which had taken it's toll on her physical health and caused a huge decline in her Vascular Dementia symptoms.
However, gradually, she is coming out of her shell and is now joining in with some activities and
her sense of humour is starting to show. I have no doubt that this is due to the staff, from the cleaners to the management, as they are all lovely and make us feel welcome when we visit and I know my mum feels safe or she would not try out the numerous activities taking place at the home.
I would recommend Old Shenfield Place.
Reply from Cristina Duran, Home Manager at Old Shenfield PlaceThank you for your wonderful review, it's been a pleasure supporting your mum in Old Shenfield Place, and it's been so lovely to watch her settling well. When my friend was transferred from hospital, I just prayed he would be placed somewhere people care and didn't just leave him.
All was answered when came to Old Shenfield Place he relaxed, walked and smiled, All what he didn't do before. Still a long way to go but the Manger and all the staff were
fantastic in the way they go about helping and attending to his needs. I walked in and thought I'd come to a top class hotel.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.938)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.938) out of 10 for Old Shenfield Place is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.938 for Old Shenfield Place is calculated as follows: ( (427 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 454 Ratings = 4.938
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Old Shenfield Place is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Daisy

Job Title: Through the eyes of a child Programme Leader

Daisy is an 11-year-old community champion who has been visiting The Anchorage care home since she was a toddler. A few years ago, she created Through the Eyes of a Child, a heartfelt initiative designed to capture children’s honest reflections on their experiences of visiting the care home, helping staff and residents see the environment through a child’s perspective.

What began as a simple idea has grown into a meaningful programme that fosters intergenerational connections. Daisy encourages children from local schools to visit the home, building friendships with residents and taking part in activities, events, and outings. She has also developed feedback forms to ensure children’s voices are heard and valued.

Over the past year, Daisy’s compassion and dedication have been widely recognised. She has received a Champions of Care Special Recognition Award from Person Centred Software, the Community Cup from her school for her empathy and service, and the Saxon Weald Local Community Youth Winner Award for her outstanding contribution to the care home and wider community. She is also due to join the PDCCA Volunteer Friends Scheme in the New Year.

Now beginning to share Through the Eyes of a Child with other care homes across the group, Daisy continues to lead with kindness, empathy, and maturity beyond her years, proving that age is no barrier to making a meaningful difference.
