Southminster Residential Home is an imposing country house of architectural importance. It is a Grade ll listed building with attractive gardens and the home is registered for 40 residents.

Southminster Residential Home has a choice of 24 single en-suite bedrooms and 8 double rooms. The home has 2 lounges, 2 dining rooms and various other communal facilities for the care of the residents. The directors have got many years of experience within the care industry and manage other care homes in Essex too.

A team of dedicated staff provide care 24 hours a day to ensure service users live in comfort and safety. The home manager who is a registered nurse level 2 and the deputy, have between them many years of experience in care for the elderly, with a good depth of knowledge.

They are committed, extremely well motivated and continually strive to improve the level of services provided.

Sadly my mum's stay here was not very long, about four weeks. We were very happy with her care, and the staff were all really attentive and looked after her so well. She had a lovely Christmas and was the star of the party at 100 years of age.

My mother went into Southminster Residential Home for one week of respite care, and we were both very anxious and nervous as this was the first time Mum had been away from us in 10 years (she has lived with us). I need not have worried because as soon as we walked through the door, we were welcomed
with smiles and reassurance. All members of staff came to say hello and introduced themselves. When I returned the next day, mum had completely made herself at home, saying she felt very comfortable and not nervous anymore. The level of care was way beyond our expectations, we were told that the people here are a family, and this is very true. When we left, the staff came to say goodbye and hugged mum, saying they would miss her. Mum's words, "this is just like being at home", say it all.

We have had to put my mother in this home. I went to see it beforehand and was made very welcome by all the staff. The transition for my mum from hospital to Southminster Residential Home has been amazing I know it hasn't been long that my mum has been in there but you get the best feeling from the
staff and you can tell they all care.

My mother was a resident at Southminster for almost a year before she died peacefully at the age of 98.
She was well cared for, and she loved the food. She told us shortly before she passed away that 'she liked it here', which was praise indeed from my mother.

In general terms and during my brief stay, I was more than happy with the way the home was run. It seemed to me that all levels of staff were prepared to multi-task and not stick to a one men one job attitude. My personal experience throughout my stay was, apart from a few minor niggles, which were
unavoidable, and part of my own personal requirements, which you would expect to find in a five-star hotel and not in a residential care home, were adequate and catered for most of my limited needs as well being in a friendly and hospitable atmosphere. My view of care and support workers has been impressive and changed my mind about the amount of work they have to do, which they do with dedication and compassion.

Upon my arrival, I was included by staff and residents straight away. The staff helped me with my medicine. The food was plentiful and well prepared and presented. The way visitors were encouraged and dealt with was very efficient. I would recommend the home to anyone and perhaps use it more if necessary.

Our Mum has been in the home since April last year. She moved from Yorkshire to Essex, which was quite an upheaval for her, but has settled into her new home very well. She always seems happy and well-cared for when we visit. The staff are always friendly and helpful and very patient with mum who suffers
with dementia.

Mum took up residence in June 2021 and settled in very well. The staff went out of their way to make her comfortable, and we have some lovely pictures of her enjoying the activities in the house. I have nothing but praise for the staff, who have at all times, been very professional, caring and attentive
to Mum's needs, and Mum was very happy there. Her room was always spotless, bright and airy. Unfortunately, we lost Mum in April, it was unexpected and a shock to her family and the care home. The support given to me at this very difficult time was exceptional, and I cannot thank them enough.

My grandmother was transferred to Southminster Residential Home, following a stay in hospital. As this was during the pandemic, access was limited, and we weren't able to visit or see her very much, which was a concern. As the restrictions lifted, we were reassured by her good care and impressed by
the bright, clean and sunny room she had been allocated. After a year of being a resident, I was grateful to have been with her at the very end, and the care from the staff was nothing short of exceptional. They treated her with dignity and as if she was their family. They were kind and loving towards Nan, and we could not have been more grateful for their wonderful care and support of us as a family on that day.

My mum stayed here for the last few months of her life.


We thought she would be there longer, but the isolation of lockdown took its toll. I had absolutely no doubt that she was very well looked after, and I've never been to a care home before that smelled so nice. It's a lovely old building, but

the rooms are modern and some are quite unique. The staff are loving and friendly.


My sister and I were very comfortable with her staying there.

My mum resides at Southminster. 
We have always been very happy with the high standards and quality of care given to mum and demonstrated on our many visits.
The manager and her team do a wonderful job, in what, I'm sure are not always easy circumstances.


I would also mention a letter that our

granddaughter wrote to her great nanny, and the reply she received from the home.
It's hard to read the letter without a tear in the eye, she is nine today, and her great nanny 98! 
How especially lovely, to get a reply.
That someone has taken the time, on great nannies behalf, means the world to her, it's very special.


In such difficult and stressful times, it is exactly refreshing acts like this that concentrate the mind on things that really matter, care, compassion, kind acts and help for one another.
It's special to us too, as we understand this highlights the nature of the people working at the home and so shines favourably on them all.
We rest assured of the care given by the team here.

My mother needed 24hr residential care following a period of hospitalization, and we were lucky that a vacancy was found for her at Southminster Residential Home.
Given the current Covid-19 situation, there probably could not have been a more difficult time for her need to happen.
The home has risen
to the challenge with very carrying staff working under extreme conditions under the excellent leadership and management.
During these times it has only been possible to arrange a Garden or Window meeting with my mother.
Very pleased that my mother is safe and in the best place for her to be in at her time of life.

The care given to my mum during her 15months stay was exemplary in every aspect. Her needs were very demanding of staff time and they always responded with patience and kindness. The staff team are skilled and they have such a positive attitude to what can be a very physically and mentally challenging
role. They really get to know and spend time developing relationships with their residents, which meant that mum’s anxiety and fears were removed and she ended her days with dignity, comfortable and contented.

This residential home is very very good. It has a personal feel rather like that of family. The residents are treated like people which is refreshing to see. The home makes sure that there is full integration and the residents know they are part of the family. The home doesn't see the residents as numbers
or things just to feed and get to bed, they treat them like your own mum and dad. The staff are warm and friendly and when you go in you don't feel like a visitor but a relative that's special. Well done, Southminster Residential Home.

I moved my mum from another care home to Southminster Residential Home about 18 months ago, and I am glad I did. The team of carers that work there are a credit to both the home and to the profession. They regularly go above and beyond for their residents and genuinely care about their wellbeing. There
is a morning and afternoon activities co-ordinator, a chef that makes varied and tasty food, and a welcoming homely environment. The home has an "open door" policy, so anyone can visit at any time, and there is always a member of management around. The manager and deputy work tirelessly and are proud of the improved CQC rating the home now has.

Always a warm welcome. Helpful, friendly and caring. All the staff are friendly, polite and always willing to help, advise and console if needed. This is a well run residential home in which my father is receiving very caring and dignified care. I go home knowing he is in the best place for him.
