Borovere is a long-established care home in the area, recognised for delivering residential, respite, and dementia care.

As part of Greensleeves Care, a well-regarded UK care charity focused on placing people before profit, residents benefit from flexible trial stays that help ease the move into care. They also have the security of Greensleeves Care’s ‘Home for Life’ promise, which ensures no resident will be asked to leave should their financial circumstances change.

Situated on the outskirts of Alton and surrounded by neighbouring homes, Borovere occupies its own attractive grounds. These include a peaceful secret garden and a welcoming courtyard, both of which host regular events and gatherings. The location also provides convenient access to nearby amenities such as Alton Public Gardens, along with organised community trips including pub lunches and visits to local garden centres.

The home offers spacious, fully furnished bedrooms, each with access to either an en-suite bathroom or a contemporary wet room. Residents are encouraged to personalise their spaces with treasured items, photographs, ornaments, or small pieces of furniture, to promote comfort, familiarity, and positive wellbeing.

The in-house catering team prepares fresh, nutritious meals tailored to personal tastes and dietary requirements.

My mym's time at Borovere was lovely. The staff were kind, caring, sensitive and considerate to my mum's needs. My mum was there for two and a half years, and I never had any concerns for the care they gave her. The manager is the key member of staff. She runs an excellent home, and the staff respect
her.

Mum settled quickly. After a couple of weeks, she stopped asking when she was coming home. The staff introduced her to other residents and helped her join in the activities making her feel secure. Mum began eating normal food again after being on a liquid diet. I was kept informed by phone of any changes
even though I visit every week. Mum laughed and joked with the staff and began to have a new lease of life at 101. She was taken out and enjoyed all the activities and visits from organisations. I am so pleased we chose Borovere Care Home.

Mum has now been in Borovere for a few months and has settled in really well. The staff are so kind and caring; she speaks well of everyone.
We wanted a small tea party for Mum's 97th birthday, and the team were really helpful. They arranged the lounge for us with drinks and a birthday cake and also
heated up the items that we brought in. They were on hand for anything we needed on the day.
There's always a nice atmosphere in the home, and being smaller, it has a cosy and personal feel compared to some of the larger ones I have visited.
Reply from Karen Shepperdson, Home Manager at BorovereThank you so much for the review; we do try and make it as homely as we can, especially when there is a special occasion to celebrate. I am glad Mum was able to have so many friends and family with her for her day.

We chose Borovere for Mum as it was smaller in scale and had a warm, homely atmosphere. The permanent and agency staff are excellent: kind and caring. They dealt with Mum's increasing personal needs with sensitivity. There are varied activities for those that want them and a good choice of food.
Reply from Karen Shepperdson, Home Manager at BorovereIt was very kind of you to submit a review for the home; Mum was only with us for a short time, but it was a pleasure to care for her, she was always very grateful for any help she was given and very respectful.

We visited my sister on her birthday. She was lively and happy throughout our visit, particularly when the care home staff joined us for a few minutes, producing a birthday cake as well as presents and cards signed by more than a dozen staff and residents. This made her day complete, and we left feeling
really glad that she was living among such nice people.

The home has been a perfect, safe and warm environment for my mum since moving there six months ago. The staff have shown compassion and empathy and a real warmth towards her. As a family, we have always been impressed with the breadth of activities keeping the residents occupied. Thank you so much
for being so kind.

I found this care home on google, searching the area in the middle of where my sister and I reside. On reading from their website I found that it was the one I would like my mum to become a resident in. Sister and I visited, discussed opportunities and agreed Borovere was definitely the one for us,
however Mum has always said 'Please never put me in a care home', so Sister and I were very anxious. Now after only a month, Mum loves the place, she looks better and is eating well, both Sister and I are of course very happy with this. I can now tell you too that the staff at the care home are first class and are led by a very good and caring Manager. I am sure that my Mum has now got a lot of life left in front of her, even though she is 101 years of age, a situation that I could not be sure of with the former visiting home carers.

Although my father-in-law only stayed at Borovere for three days before he was admitted to A & E at a local hospital, he thoroughly enjoyed his stay and remarked on how kind and caring the staff were - all of them. We can back that up from our daily visits too, particularly the house manager. The home
focuses on it's homely, family atmosphere and it really is just that. One other thing my father-in-law commended was the food, which is high raise indeed.

Dad was welcomed into Borovere in mid-2016 at age 94 - it became his “home from home” for almost 7 years until he sadly passed away at the amazing age of 101 years, 6 months, in 2023. He was always treated with care, compassion, and respect – and our family were always made welcome and included - in
fact, we felt part of the Borovere “family”. Dad was very happy at Borovere – especially when it was “fish n chips” for lunch on a Friday – and he used to participate in the activities with much enjoyment. Dad’s 100th Birthday was unforgettable, in so many ways, and we will be forever indebted to the Borovere staff for all they did to mark the event. Our family always had great confidence in the management at Borovere, especially during the difficult times of Covid. We feel very fortunate indeed that Dad was at Borovere – in fact, we believe that it is through the care he received that he was able to live so long. One hundred and one years, and six months. Thank you Borovere, for everything.

Dad lived at Borovere, from May 2016, until his death in January 2022. Borovere has a nice home from home feeling. Dad always seemed happy and content living there. The staff/management team, have always been kind and caring and made visitors welcome. When Dad was put on end of life care, we were allowed
to spend a lot of time with him which was a great comfort. I shall miss visiting Borovere, but happy, we made the right choice of care home for Dad.

My mother was used to having full time care by her children, with the support from a care agency until covid. She came to Borovere, due to our exhaustion. I think she found it difficult to adjust because of her failing eyesight and deafness. This meant, she hasn’t interacted with other residents as
she might have done. She finds eating in front and waiting of others embarrassing, as she is unable to see what is on her plate and how much she is attempting to put in her mouth. All the carers have been very kind to her and she really enjoys the interaction with them. I do feel that the meals are the weak point. She was used to having a variety of green vegetables, kale, broccoli etc.(not peas) baked fish, chicken and gammon etc, things that were easy to digest and a variety of desserts. Please don’t think she is always complaining, she isn’t, some meals she says are delicious!
Reply from Karen Shepperdson, Manager at BorovereI was sorry to read that you feel your mum's dietary needs are not being met, as we take great pride in the dietary needs of our residents. We try and have a varied menu which is reviewed regularly, with input from the residents in the home. I will arrange for the Chef/Manager to meet with your mum and discuss her requirements moving forward.

Borovere is a beautifully kept home, very comfortable for the residents and whenever I go, it is always spotlessly clean. My aunt is always very happy when we visit, she looks, well looked after and enjoys the activities and interaction with all of the staff and other residents. As visitors, we are
always made to feel welcome and have been regularly kept informed of all the changes to visiting due to Covid etc. The management team are always very accessible and happy to discuss any concerns we may have. A big thank you to all of the staff for keeping our loved ones safe during this difficult time.

My mother moved into Borovere in 2018 after my father died. They had been married for 77 years. The family were naturally worried about how Mum would cope with not only losing her soul mate but leaving her own home. We need not have been concerned as the staff at Borovere did everything they could to
help her settle. The care they have given her since has been amazing.
Last year Mum was 100 years old. The scope to celebrate due to COVID was limited but the staff made every effort to make the day special for her.
She has just celebrated her 101 birthday and once again celebrations had to be limited. Given all the extra calls on their time due to COVID, the staff still made it memorable for not only Mum but the family. We have some lovely photos of her looking so happy. Thank you Borovere.

My mother-in-law moved to Borovere in 2018 and we were struck immediately by the kindness and the efficiency of the whole team. She has enjoyed the company of the other residents, the excellent home-cooked meals and also being able to provide a lap for Jack the cat.
This year has been particularly
challenging and the staff have worked tirelessly to keep people safe and the home Covid-free.
We are very grateful for both the professionalism and the quality of her care. This really is a lovely home.

My mother has been in Borovere for 4 years and is extremely well cared for in all ways. The staff are friendly and kind. I feel very confident to leave her there knowing she is cared for, safe, well-fed, and has all the comforts she could wish for. As well as providing all of these, they go one step
more and really care for the elderly who need love and comfort. A lot of the staff are the same staff from when she first arrived and therefore they are familiar with her and she with them.

My mother has been a resident at Borovere for nearly 6 years. During this time she received what I can only describe as excellent care, over and above what I had expected. All the staff were sensitive, kind, and caring, nothing was ever too much trouble.
My mother could at times be very forceful and
argumentative but the team at Borovere cared for her like she was a member of their family.
My mother celebrated her 100th birthday during the Covid visiting restriction and her day was made so very special by the incredible team at Borovere and their attention to detail. Sadly we lost my mother recently, but I know her last few weeks and months of palliative care were the very best anyone could have.
I, nor any member of my family, would have any reservations in recommending Borovere to any family looking for a loving, well-managed and maintained home for their elderly parent.

The whole team at Borovere have been absolutely amazing throughout the Covid epidemic. Their "normal" standard of care was already exceptional, but they have gone above and beyond expectations in caring for residents in these difficult times. We have been able to maintain contact with Dad (he is a 99-year-old
resident) through Skype calls and socially distanced - and very safe, Covid-secure personal visits. Without doubt, this has put so much additional work and stress on the staff, but they have maintained a brilliant level of cheerfulness and commitment to their residents, and indeed to their residents' families. Truly outstanding!

The staff at Borovere are brilliant; hard-working and very caring. Having dementia, my mother can get anxious and become verbally abusive and yet her carers remain calm and positive. They have also helped me to come to terms with my mother's mood swings. Because the home is so well managed, it has been
COVID-19 free. Relative-visiting was reinstated as soon as possible after lockdown and is a safe environment. Although my mother is not always able to take part in activities due to her dementia, the home arranged for therapy sessions and visits to local tea dance, both very successful.

During lock-down and in the months since the staff at Borovere have been exceptional in every way. The high standard of care for residents, the love and constant empathy shown by all the staff, shine out. It's hard to find words to fully express my deepest thanks for the way in which contact has been
maintained between me and my dad throughout these challenging times - using skype to keep us in touch. The staff have been amazing in so many ways - always so helpful and reassuring. Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.758)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.758) out of 10 for Borovere is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.783 for Borovere is calculated as follows: ( (207 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 249 Ratings = 4.783
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Borovere is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
