Borovere is a long-established care home in the area, recognised for delivering residential, respite, and dementia care.

As part of Greensleeves Care, a well-regarded UK care charity focused on placing people before profit, residents benefit from flexible trial stays that help ease the move into care. They also have the security of Greensleeves Care’s ‘Home for Life’ promise, which ensures no resident will be asked to leave should their financial circumstances change.

Situated on the outskirts of Alton and surrounded by neighbouring homes, Borovere occupies its own attractive grounds. These include a peaceful secret garden and a welcoming courtyard, both of which host regular events and gatherings. The location also provides convenient access to nearby amenities such as Alton Public Gardens, along with organised community trips including pub lunches and visits to local garden centres.

The home offers spacious, fully furnished bedrooms, each with access to either an en-suite bathroom or a contemporary wet room. Residents are encouraged to personalise their spaces with treasured items, photographs, ornaments, or small pieces of furniture, to promote comfort, familiarity, and positive wellbeing.

The in-house catering team prepares fresh, nutritious meals tailored to personal tastes and dietary requirements.

My mother resided in Borovere, Alton for 15 months, and was very well looked after. She regularly said "they do look after me well and are very kind". She was always warm and clean, well fed and entertained with a variety of games and quizzes.
There was a range of outside people bringing further entertainment
by the way of animals from a local farm, goats, piglets, ducks, donkeys etc. A garden centre brought in seeds and compost for planting and re-potting plants. Those residing that could were taken out to visit local attractions or the seaside towns.
All in all, a fine place for my 96-year-old mother to end her days - thank you.

My mother has been a resident for 18 months and has excellent care. The staff always treat her with respect and kindness. We can visit at any time and are always welcomed. I have taken my young grandson on a number of occasions and all the residents enjoy seeing us. We even are welcome to join in with
the activities. It feels like we are part of a family and I have absolutely no worries about the care my Mum receives, even from the cleaners and handyman. Everything is done in the best interests of the residents with love. Some of the building is a bit tired but we looked at a number of homes before choosing Borovere and we are so pleased that we chose it and are confident that we had made the right decision. I am sad that we will no longer be part of this 'family' and will go back to say hello for their open day and if I am passing. A big thank you to everyone at Borovere for all the care they have given my Mum. I know that no one else could have done a better job.

My mother of 93 had lived at Borovere for 7 years and was very happy. She had a lovely room with all her personal photos and belongings. She really felt this was her home. During the last few months she had to be cared for in bed but was still given the dignity and respect as before. Her end of life
care was exemplary and the support that my sisters and I received from all the staff was excellent. I was always made welcome by members of staff and enjoyed my visits very much.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.639)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.639) out of 10 for Borovere is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.839 for Borovere is calculated as follows: ( (121 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 143 Ratings = 4.839
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Borovere is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Karen Shepperdson

Job Title: Manager Joined: 2013

My name is Karen Shepperdson. Before becoming the Home manager at Borovere, I was the Deputy Manager, which I believe gave me a good insight into what makes a good care home “tick”.

At Borovere, we aim to make living in this beautiful home a positive experience. Everyone who walks through our doors is a priority for me, not only for the new resident but also for their family and friends. I have an open-door approach for everyone, whether it be residents/families or staff, or just someone dropping in to see what we are all about.

I sit in on daily meetings relating to the residents and their needs, I work alongside the senior team and cover shifts when needed, which makes a welcome change from being office-bound!

Above all, I want Borovere to continue being the home where people feel listened to, feel safe to discuss their concerns or just where they can feel comfortable, and where staff want to work.
