Milkwood House Care Home

We are a small team who provide extra support to an adult man living at Milkwood House Care Home, who has both physical and learning difficulties. The home is well run, friendly and well presented, with all the staff welcoming, approachable and well trained within their roles. On occasions our extra support creates more work for the management and care teams, but they are always willing to help. The home and gardens are maintained to a high standard which along with the high standard of care creates a bright, positive, stimulating and happy atmosphere. While the personal centred approach to all of its residents ensures dignity and respect for all.

Excellent service has been given to my dad since he has been in Milkwood. Dad is now mainly in bed but the staff regularly come and visit him. The staff are really kind and helpful to us when we visit.

On subsequent visits, the atmosphere remains warm and friendly and the staff are great. Thank you.

I am so pleased my mumma is residing at Milkwood House, she is so well looked after and I wouldn't want her to live anywhere else. She has a lovely comfortable room and enjoys the meals which are catered for her diabetic needs. She also enjoys going out in the minibus for days out or a coffee morning. I thoroughly recommend it.

My father has gone into long-term care. He has now settled in and is looking well having put on weight. He has been in a respite room for some time now and we are waiting for a permanent room for him. This will be much better as he can have his own things in the room.

I would highly recommend this home to families who are searching for a safe and happy home for their nearest and dearest - I know how daunting this process can seem.

He sadly passed away in October 2023. During his final weeks, the staff were amazing and treated him with the utmost dignity, we couldn’t have asked for better care. He felt safe and we knew he was being extremely well looked after.

My father spent the last year of his life at Milkwood, he fought us hard not to go as he had a negative perception of care homes. He soon changed his mind, he loved the company, food, activities and most importantly the staff. My sister and I were always made welcome when we visited. My only regret was that we could not persuade him earlier to go but we can be thankful that his last year and days were spent in a place full of life.

All the staff at Milkwood House Care Home were amazing. When my mother passed away, they were supportive and understanding and went above and beyond to look after my father, who has been left alone (both parents were residents at the home). They kindly offered to hold my mother's wake in the garden at the home and the chef provided an unbelievably generous spread of food. Management and the team have showed myself, my sister and my dad so much love and support which has helped us all through our grief.

I highly recommend Milkwood. Extremely well managed, great carers, excellent entertainment, good food, very clean, and no smells. Faultless.

We are delighted that we have been able to move our dear 93 year old Mum from Cornwall to Milkwood House Care Home. She has settled in quickly and enjoys joining in with a varied programme of activities. Staff are always on hand and so helpful when discussing care plans which are transparent and detailed. My son came down from London to see his Nanna and had fun joining in with the Hoy Bingo and the Karaoke. He sat in the dining room and was given tea and biscuits and watched wide-eyed at how brilliant staff members are with all residents. Mum loves having her hair and nails done regularly in the salon and she looks great. She always says how well she is being looked after. The managers and financial administrator have me given the clearest information I have received to date on what can often be a daunting situation as far as finances are concerned. Milkwood House is outstanding, not only for the very high standard of care provided but for the large variety of activities and outings they do.

My mother was a resident of Milkwood House before passing away peacefully this month. The team at Milkwood are amazing and looked after my Mum's end-of-life care with incredible respect and compassion. My brother and I will be always grateful that Mum spent her last months in this caring environment. We can't praise the team highly enough and thank them for all their kind words, cups of tea, tissues and hugs. They felt like an extension of our family at this difficult time.

My brother is a resident at Milkwood, and in his own way, I know that he is comfortable and happy. Sadly, his dementia has progressed very quickly, as the doctors said it would. I know that he has enjoyed meeting new people and has a fantastic relationship with the staff, who are so caring towards him. We feel comfortable knowing that he is very well looked after and would recommend Milkwood House.

My mum seems to have settled really well at Milkwood after a very difficult few months for the family with our mum in hospital.

The staff are all very helpful and friendly to everyone who visits.

It would be great to have a small area set up where visitors could make a drink for themselves when visiting, we all travel an hour to visit the home and do not want to have to ask a member of staff for a drink if they are busy.

As a family we feel Mum is well cared for and looked after in a safe environment.

My mum was in Milkwood for the last 5 months of her life. The care she received was impeccable. The staff have all been very kind and considerate, and I was always made aware of any concerns they had regarding her health or state of mind. She always looked clean and well dressed and was well treated. Before Milkwood, she had had a temporary stay in a bigger care home with more facilities eg a sensory room, but I never saw anyone use it. The level of staffing at Milkwood is excellent, and every day there is a programme of activities for the residents. I was very happy with the care my mum received, and in her final hours, she was treated with great compassion, respect and tenderness, as was I. I would have no hesitation in recommending Milkwood to anyone needing residential care for a loved one.

The staff at Milkwood have taken great care of my mother since she went there for respite care earlier this year. She settled in well, and when a decision was having to be made for her long time care, we were only grateful that Milkwood had a room there for her. All the staff are friendly, have great patience with all the residents, and I feel that my mum is being looked after well. Thank you to all the staff.

As you can see from my ratings, I feel there are no faults whatsoever. 10 out of 10.
