My husband has terminal cancer and I was caring for him at home until his nursing needs meant that he required professional help. He has been in Chatterwood since 6th February. He is so content there. All the staff are welcoming and friendly and nothing is too much for them. My husband likes to
be left to listen to his music and watch his DVDs and he can do so there.
The nursing staff are wonderful and have time to answer any questions either he or I have. The care assistants are very good, always cheerful and never too busy to say hello. The room is kept beautifully clean. They kindly installed a recliner chair for him, similiar to the one he has at home, which is a god send.
When I wanted to take my husband home for a visit on Valentine's Day, the staff were wonderful in getting him ready and we could enjoy our hours together without being pressured to get back at a certain time..
I am able to visit when I and we have no complaints. It's a lovely place.
Reply from Jack Newman, Registered Manager at Chatterwood House Nursing HomeThank you so much for your review, I will pass this over to the team.

My mother has been at Castleford for 18 months and the level and quality of care she receives is outstanding. The staff are undoubtedly the biggest asset in this home and I now think of them as my mums second family, all of them go out of their way to ensure all her needs are met in a professional
yet compassionate manner. I feel she is surrounded by people who genuinely care about her and are reactive to any changes in her care needs. She is very well supported and extremely well fed as there is a great choice of food on offer. From a family perspective we are kept very well informed and they are very receptive to us visiting/calling when we want to. I am so glad we found Castleford as it has been an excellent choice for mum and I really don't know what we would have done without them.

Very friendly, attentive staff who do care!
Mother is very happy with all aspects of the home, from the attitude of the staff, the medical attention received, the cleanliness of both her room and common areas and the standard of food.
She particularly enjoys time in the lounge where she can interact
with both fellow residents and staff.

My mum is in her 90s and has been here for just over 3 years now for dementia nursing care. Nursing staff are good and don't change too often - communications with them have been good. Care assistants are very good and some have been here for a long time. The activities are varied and the activity staff
are excellent. My mum can't do too much now but she enjoys the singing activities and the visiting church service. They do also arrange outings which my mum enjoyed when she was able to participate.

My brother settled in to Castleford Lodge very well. His room is perfect for him, he likes the staff and always gets a big smile on his face when they enter the room, he likes to stay in bed, which the home is fine with. My mum was taken in to chatterwood on the 21st January 2026. We had cared for her at home but she needed full time care. She was suffering with cancer of her mouth and was on palliative care. We all knew she had limited time left . On arriving at the home we were greeted with such a wonderful warm welcome
. Which put my mum at ease straight away, she knew that she wouldn't be coming back home and was very anxious about going into the home. The staff made my mum and us as a family feel very comfortable. They settled her in her room ( which we had chosen prior to my mum arriving) it was a lovely bright room and they had set it up as we had requested. Moving the bed and furniture into a more comfortable setting for my mum. I stayed with her for a few hours , then my sister came early evening. Little did we know but this was the last time we saw our mother. As we had a call around 2.15 am that our mother had passed away. We can't fault the care and attention my mum received. Thank you

From the moment we came through the door and every one welcome my mum, we knew from this beautiful greeting this care home were going to look after her in her final days excellently. It was a short stay for my mum but she felt very relaxed before she passed and how this was told to me was reassuring.
The staff were attentive, caring and just wonderful for mum and our family.
Thank you so much for you support in a time which was so difficult for our family.
The manager Jeanette was so warm, supportive and comforting. Thank you to her and all the staff even the house keeper who packed her things up with dignity and respect.

The Orchard Care Home is excellent. They are very accommodating and very flexible. They have a good staff to resident ratio. They do nice day trips and lots of activities. They are very responsible regarding medications and doctors appoints. They manage conflict well. They are all very kind and respectful.
The food is of a high standard. The home itself is well looked after and maintained.

We chose Braeburn Lodge as this is a smaller care home and this would be a better setting for our grandfather. From our first meeting with questions, then queries by phone or email, these were addressed and we were reassured at each step.
Granpa loves it at Braeburn and all the staff. I've found the
staff are well attentive, the care and love they show to each resident is abundantly clear.
Braeburn arrange trips out to see the ducks or to stop for tea nearby. They have entertainment and exercises in the lounge area, these are appropriate for the capabilities of the residents. Updates on the activities are shared on their social media posts, these are a joy to see and Granpa clearly enjoying them.
The staff at Braeburn Lodge are brilliant. Highly recommend.

Breaburn is an exceptional care home with exceptional and caring staff.
The accommodation and bedrooms are to a very high standard - it really feels like a home.
The food is cooked from fresh and better than most local restaurants.
What makes Breaburn so unique is its size - with only 12 residents
- staff are able to provide personal care which they have done each day for Les over the last 19 months. He is so happy and settled and that is all we can ask for.
The staff also make us (family and friends) feel so very welcome - it is a joy to be there!

I cannot rate Braeburn highly enough.
This is a small residential home where the personal touch is of paramount importance to all members of staff and residents needs are known intimately. However it's also much more than this, where the team form strong relationships with both the residents and
their visitors and work closely together to ensure an individual approach and personal touch to the care provided.
Rooms are clean, modern and well furnished. The quality of food (having sampled on several occasions) is excellent. All necessarily facilities are available.
Having had reason to spend a lot of time here recently, I've had the opportunity to understand the operation more fully and get to know the team, all of whom are superb. Further, having visited a number of care homes over the years, Braeburn stands out as going above and beyond and a clear cut above the rest.
My grandfather joined Braeburn almost 2 years and very much regards this as his home.
Highly recommended.

I have completed two previous reviews at key moments of my wife's time at Ganarew. Sadly my wife died in early December last year and I want to complete the circle by commenting on end of life care at this wonderful establishment. My wife had Alzheimer's disease and was probably at the start of the
final phase of the disease when she came to the home. From day one until her final hours the standard of care, compassion and sheer professionalism was exemplary, in her final hours she was treated and cared for with privacy, dignity and tenderness by all.
So I have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful home from home.

Staff always very supportive & caring. They also are informed & know how to respond to anything unusual & are speedy in their response to anything urgent. I am contacted quickly after anything out of the ordinary, once medical advice has been sought. They also take care of the ordinary, that I may not
have thought of, e.g. with dentures. I am so relieved that all the pressures I had have been under are lifted off me.
