My father was very well looked after. The rooms are lovely and spacious, and the house is in a lovely location. The staff are unbelievably caring, and showed so much love and support to my father and kindness to myself and family. The food is amazing and cooked fresh every day and a lot of effort goes into making sure residents eat. I would highly recommend this home.

Review of The Orchard from Alasdair K (Son of Resident) published on 2 July 2026 Submitted via Website

The Orchard has been such a support for both my mother and myself during a difficult time. From the first moment I spoke to them, they listened to my needs and my mothers and made this a personal experience.
The quality of care is wonderful. Over the last month I have spent a lot of time there and seen how they work with all the residents, not just my mother. They are kind and patient with everyone.
There is a warm and family feel to the place, with the staff watching not just for the residents but also for their families.
Home baked cakes every day and food is catered for individual needs.

Beautiful location, and lovely rooms.

Review of Castleford House from D A (Husband of Resident) published on 30 June 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

I have been a regular visitor for six years. During this time, my wife has been immobile, i.e., in a wheelchair or bed. My view is that the home is not perfect but tries hard to be. My view is that the staff who care for her day to day needs, carers and nurses, all do their best for my wife. The kitchen, laundry and other 'backroom' staff all fit in to provide a quiet, efficient running of the home. I'm able to speak to management when I feel it necessary and am listened to.

Review of Chatterwood House Nursing Home from Mark G (Son of Resident) published on 15 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Since my Father was discharged from Hospital Portsmouth into the care of Chatterwood, he has never been looked after so well. Sadly his diagnosis won't change but the level of care he receives is vastly superior to anything a hospital can provide. The staff are remarkable. I have only ever seen how dedicated and focused they are on making the rest of my Dad's life, the best it can be.
If I, or anyone else, for that matter, were to need caring for, I would choose Chatterwood without hesitation.

As a visitor, I am warmly welcomed and given any updates on Dad's health and medication. I also get phone calls keeping me in the picture at all times. This is the best service you will find anywhere. The food is superb and I would say, is superior to the best hotel food. You might read this and think this is too good to be true, well I can tell you it is all true. Thank you Chatterwood. Keep up the five star treatment.

Applewood carehome will always keep in contact regarding my mother's care. It is so reassuring to know my mother is cared for by wonderful carers who always put her needs first. If they have any concerns she is seen by a doctor & I am always contacted so I know when the doctor has been & what was prescribed.

Unfortunately my mother is bed bound now but when she was mobile she was always out & about enjoying the trips arranged by the home.

Review of Applewood from H B (Daughter of Resident) published on 4 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My parents have been residents in Applewood since the beginning of March 2026, following a helpful and informative visit and tour of the home, which was facilitated by Louise and Emma prior to my parents move. I chose Applewood based on my visits, information provided and on the friendly attitude of all the staff I met at the time. It appears that moral is high and the home retains the full range of staff without the need to use agency staff.

Since the move, my parents have received full support and care from a friendly and attentive team of carers. I have been impressed by the level of communication from them, by phone, in person and by email.

I feel that the family have made the right decision for my parents and we are confident they will continue to receive all the care and support they need going forwards.

I would suggest that a more comprehensive brochure is provided by Milkwood outlining all the services available to the residents, for example, dentist and optician visit

The whole team at Applewood have been super supportive and instrumental to how well our Dad has adapted to being in a care home.
The care home itself is homely, very clean and very well managed. The garden is a lovely spot for visiting and there is always something going on for the residents.
Our Dad is very happy here and the management team have helped us ensure that he can stay in Applewood and close to his family and friends. I cannot thank Louise, Emma and team enough for going above and beyond for us all.

I would highly recommend Applewood and the team who look after the residents with such care and respect.

Overall Experience
My mother has been living in Applewood carehome for almost 2 1/2 years now. The staff are always on hand to fulfill her needs & she is extremely well cared for. As my mother's dementia has worsened, they have adjusted her care plan to ensure that she is getting exactly what she needs, exactly when she needs it. This must be extremely challenging as my mother cannot communicate very well.
Another thing that I'm really impressed by is the daily activities & entertainment. They literally have things going on every day.

I really cannot speak highly enough of the whole set up.

Review of Braeburn Lodge from Matthew T (Stepson of Resident) published on 29 April 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
I just wanted to give Braeburn Lodge a massive thumbs up for the love and care they provided to my step-mum. It feels like the wild-west out there in terms of who is providing what and at what price. We really landed on our feet with Braeburn. It is a small home, which gives it a really friendly feel. There are constant trips out and activities and the staff are loving and part of the Braeburn family, and they make you, as a loved one feel part of that family. It is reassuring to see that the staff are not continually changing, so my step-mum got to build up a really good relationship with them.

I felt my step-mum was in really safe hands. The food was excellent and a lovely touch was everyone would eat their meals together around the dining table. I could turn up at any time and was always made to feel welcome. The building was clean and bright and everyone was immaculately dressed. Despite the challenges my step-mum had, they made her comfortable, safe, and made her laugh a lot.

All staff were excellent, very attentive and loving towards my partner. The entire home was kept immaculately clean. My partner was included in art projects and entertainment several times a week which she thoroughly enjoyed. The staff went over-and-above for any special occasions, which included birthdays, Burns Night and Valentine's Day. The food was outstanding and I very much appreciated being invited to join the residents for a meal.

Review of Chatterwood House Nursing Home from Judith M (Daughter of Resident) published on 20 April 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

When Mum died last month she had been resident at Chatterwood for over 4 years. Based on our experience during that time we would confidently recommend Chatterwood to anyone seeking a safe, supportive and compassionate environment. The staff are professional and treat everyone including relatives and friends with genuine kindness. They were all particularly lovely towards my Dad who visited Mum most days to sit by her bedside. It was a comfort to the family that he was received each today with such warmth and generosity, he will miss his visits greatly. Communication with the wider family was excellent - they kept us informed and were always willing to answer questions and address any concerns. Whilst all the staff were hugely supportive, we'd like to specifically highlight one exceptional member of staff who truly made a difference. It's rare to come across someone as heart warmingly lovely as Lianne, she consistently went above and beyond, offering assurance and comfort to us all.

Review of Chatterwood House Nursing Home from Susan W (Wife of Resident) published on 5 March 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My husband has terminal cancer and I was caring for him at home until his nursing needs meant that he required professional help. He has been in Chatterwood since 6th February. He is so content there. All the staff are welcoming and friendly and nothing is too much for them. My husband likes to be left to listen to his music and watch his DVDs and he can do so there.
The nursing staff are wonderful and have time to answer any questions either he or I have. The care assistants are very good, always cheerful and never too busy to say hello. The room is kept beautifully clean. They kindly installed a recliner chair for him, similiar to the one he has at home, which is a god send.
When I wanted to take my husband home for a visit on Valentine's Day, the staff were wonderful in getting him ready and we could enjoy our hours together without being pressured to get back at a certain time..

I am able to visit when I and we have no complaints. It's a lovely place.

Review of Castleford House from Sonya B (Daughter of Resident) published on 2 March 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother has been at Castleford for 18 months and the level and quality of care she receives is outstanding. The staff are undoubtedly the biggest asset in this home and I now think of them as my mums second family, all of them go out of their way to ensure all her needs are met in a professional yet compassionate manner. I feel she is surrounded by people who genuinely care about her and are reactive to any changes in her care needs. She is very well supported and extremely well fed as there is a great choice of food on offer. From a family perspective we are kept very well informed and they are very receptive to us visiting/calling when we want to. I am so glad we found Castleford as it has been an excellent choice for mum and I really don't know what we would have done without them.

Very friendly, attentive staff who do care!
Mother is very happy with all aspects of the home, from the attitude of the staff, the medical attention received, the cleanliness of both her room and common areas and the standard of food.

She particularly enjoys time in the lounge where she can interact with both fellow residents and staff.
