My husband was resident at Pax Hill EMF Unit from May to November 2019. I cannot rate too highly the care he received but also the whole family were wrapped in the care and affection. When he became ill and myself and my 3 daughters stayed there, we were also looked after and fed. We were part of this wonderful family of the EMF unit. The staff from the manager down treat all residents with respect and endless patience.

The new facilities are exceptional, however, more importantly, the staff rapport with each individual resident is very special.

We have found a wonderful new home for my mother.

Overall Experience

Pax Hill Elderly Mentally Frail Unit is a magnificent, brand-new facility in a beautiful, peaceful location in the Hampshire countryside. The building is bright, colourful, clean and spacious with superb en-suite bedrooms and great views. The care staff are welcoming, friendly, efficient, attentive and interact exceptionally well with the residents. Now needing 24-hour care, my mother was initially unhappy to leave her bungalow in February but has settled in remarkably quickly at Pax Hill and now considers it her home. She has already enjoyed several group trips to nearby attractions and gets involved in various activities on a daily basis, from ceramic painting to singing - all of which help stimulate her mind. She has made new friends and I believe there has been a marked improvement in her physical and mental health since she arrived. A big thank you to all the wonderful staff for their care and compassion, and for making life so much less stressful for the relatives of those affected by dementia.

Pax Hill sets the highest standard in care homes. The buildings and facilities are outstanding and difficult to fault. But, to my mind, it is the staff that makes Pax Hill outstanding as a suitable place for my beloved sister to dwell for her twilight years.
The management of the EMF wing are charming professionals from Kerala, each one dedicated to their task.
The carers are delightful young ladies from Nepal who are equally dedicated. My sister could not receive better attention.

I highly recommend Pax Hill to anyone who is considering a home for their nearest and dearest.

My mother has been a resident at Pax Hill EMF Unit for the last 2 and a half years. She has deteriorated over this period but the care has adjusted accordingly always putting her best interests at the centre of her care. The new accommodation is excellent but it is the staff that makes me want to recommend the EMF to people looking for a safe caring home.

When refurbishment works started at this home things went rapidly downhill. My father, a resident at the time, was out for a bit of fresh air with a carer assisting him as he was not to steady on his feet, he used a walking stick. Despite a carer being with him he took a nasty fall and split his nose which required hospital having his nose stitched. Two months later he had another fall as his confidence had taken a huge knock from the first.
His funds were now diminishing, the home found out I/he was given notice to 'quit'. They said they could no longer care for him, he could not be lifted if he fell. My question has always been that surely this is a standard requirement for dementia care. I feel to this day I was not being told the truth and when the accounts people said if your father has less than 2 years of his own personal finances left, he has to move.

An appalling way to treat a frail old man in his twilight years, I regret the day I was a succour to their persuasive selling.

Reply from Jane Upfold, Marketing Manager at Pax Hill Elderly Mentally Frail Unit

We at Pax Hill are sad that you did not find your father’s 19 months here satisfactory. Our staff tried to accommodate his love of the outdoors and walks even though he came to us with a history of falls. We recall no “persuasion” that he chooses Pax Hill at the end of a temporary stay.

My mother was admitted to Pax Hill in October 2016. I find the staff very helpful. Mu mum was so unsettled when she arrived and they were so nice and patient with her. Now she is settled and happy. They also involve the family with get togethers which are a lovely way of meeting other residents and their families. I would strongly recommend Pax Hill to others.

My Mother came to Pax Hill Care Home (EMF Unit) in May 2016. I cannot fault this Care Home the staff always showed such great care and patience towards my mother who I know was very happy to be living at Pax Hill. The staff always kept us informed on her mental state and always made us feel welcome whenever we came to visit. I cannot fault this Care Home.

Even when she passed they still treated her with respect and compassion.

This Unit is being refurbished at present and I'm sure once the building work has been completed this will improve the Common Rooms and Bedrooms with new furniture which will make a big difference.

Mum seemed very happy when we brought her in. We were made welcome and she was fine when we left her. When we collected Mum, she was very happy and said she would like to come for respite again.

Our first impressions of Pax Hill were the general sense of light and open spaces and the marvellous views. Since then, we have always found the staff helpful, cheerful and friendly. My mother has been very well cared for. Possible problems are picked up quickly and acted upon promptly. All members of the family are made very welcome whenever they visit.

From the moment I stepped in the door I knew this was the right place for Mum. Pax Hill EMF has a happy atmosphere and residents receive outstanding care from the wonderful staff. My mum arrived two weeks ago after a long spell in hospital and the improvements since she arrived at Pax Hill is amazing. I was particularly impressed with the Christmas party that was arranged for residents and their families. The staff worked really had to make it a happy occasion for everyone. Mum has settled really well and is happier than she has been for years. Thank you.

On my first visit to Pax Hill, I knew straight away it was for Mum but I also knew Mum would find the change from home to care home difficult. The staff at Pax Hill were absolutely great. The patience they showed to Mum was out of this world. Mum would say some awful things to us, family and it was so upsetting but the staff reassured us not to take it to heart and Mum finally settled and I think is happy.

My experience has been extremely positive. As a visiting relative, I am always warmly welcomed by the staff who are always keen to update me. I feel welcome at whatever time I arrive and always find the home clean, tidy and the residents relaxed and being attended to as required.

The senior staff are knowledgeable, compassionate and provide an excellent level of care. The residents are encouraged to take part in stimulating activities if they wish, which are tailored to their abilities.
