We moved Dad into the Lodge approximately two months ago. When he arrived, Dad was underweight, really withdrawn and immobile. His last home did not look after him well. In the two months at The Lodge, Dad has put weight back on, has been more communicative and is now walking again, albeit with assistance.
We put this down to the nurturing environment the staff demonstrate and deliver on a daily basis. The nursing supervisor has played a critical role in engaging Dad on a one-to-one basis and bringing him into the wider group; this has been a great success. All of the staff are incredibly helpful and do what they say they will do, which is really refreshing. We are really happy with the level of care. Thank you.
Reply from Lisa Pinner, Home Manager at The Lodge Care HomeThank you for taking the time to write a review. I am pleased that Dad has improved since residing at The Lodge. It is always lovely to hear such positive comments and glad you feel the staff are providing a good service for your Dad. I will pass on your comments to the staff as know this is what everyone wants to achieve for the residents in our care. Best wishes.

Mum has been at the Lodge for over two years now. The staff are all amazing and work tirelessly to ensure a happy, safe and caring environment for the residents. It has a real ‘home from home’ atmosphere which I know Mum appreciates and individual needs are catered for as much as possible. The residents
are treated with dignity and respect, staff are approachable and there are many activities available that encourage socialising and engagement. There is always a member of staff available if I need to discuss Mum's care, and the manager is very approachable and friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend The Lodge.
Reply from Lisa Pinner, Home Manager at The Lodge Care HomeThank you Val for taking the time to review the care at The Lodge and for your positive and kind comments.
It is always nice to hear that both you and mum are happy with what we provide.
It is good working together with families like yourself to ensure that the best possible care is given to ensure a good quality of life.

All the staff are always so wonderful and always make me feel very comfortable with leaving my neighbour with them. He loves being there too and would be happy to stay forever instead of just for respite care.

Mum became a resident at The Lodge in summer 2018. Being a small care home means mum is a name and not a number and the staff are very friendly and approachable making time to include not just mum but our family too. It is so reassuring to know she is being cared for 24/7.
I would highly recommend
The Lodge to family and friends.

I visited today with a friend whose mother moved in about 6 weeks ago. This was my second visit and on each occasion, I've been impressed by the staff. They make such an effort to communicate well with the residents and have such patience. My mother was in a nursing home with dementia as my friend's
mother has. I have to say that although the staff were good in the nursing home the staff here seem to be exceptionally good.

I am very happy with the treatment my sister receives at The Lodge. Her care there is excellent and the staff treat her with dignity and love. Whenever we visit her the staff and management make us very welcome and best of all there are no restrictions on visiting times and we can phone anytime and
they are always very very polite. God bless you.

My husband went into The Lodge in April 2017 with dementia. Throughout his stay, he was treated really well by all the staff who became like a family to us. He passed away in November and his last few days were really good as he was treated with dignity by everyone while they carried out palliative
care. I would highly recommend this care home.

Have been visiting a friend for a number of months now and the home always provides a warm welcome. There is always a cheerful atmosphere and everywhere is bright and spotlessly clean. Recently my friend celebrated a special birthday and friends and family were made very welcome with tea and biscuits
being provided. One of the lounges had been set aside for the occasion and decorated with balloons, bunting and photos. This made a very enjoyable day for my friend.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.475)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.475) out of 10 for The Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.475 for The Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (224 Excellents x 5) + (84 Goods x 4) + (19 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 343 Ratings = 4.475
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Lodge Care Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2014

My career within care started in 1989 when I have appointed the role of Care Assistant in a care home setting close to Potters Bar, Hertfordshire – an opportunity that led to my promotion to Assistant Manager in 1993. 1999 was a landmark in my category, one that saw my progress on to become Acting Home Manager, before being appointed a registered Home Manager in 2004. With a great number of years of experience, I felt confident enough to apply for the same role at The Lodge in 2014 – one that to date inspired me with a continual learning curve, and better fulfilled my passion for delivering person-specific residential and specialist dementia care.
