My father stayed at Providence Court for two weeks and on his discharge, we had to call an emergency doctor as he had cellulitis - nobody mentioned this to us and it had been going on for some time. Also, my father had someone else's clothes on and his suitcase (which had contained two weeks clothing) was returned almost empty. Could go into a lot more detail but am going through the complaints procedure.

Thank you for this feedback regarding your father’s 2-week stay at Providence Court. Quantum Care is known for delivering high standards of care for over 27 years, in the 25 care homes that it manages. It is therefore regrettable, that on this occasion, we have not maintained this quality of care...

His toilet red pull cord broken, only about 8 inches from the ceiling. I reported this twice and Niece also reported. It took well over a week to fix. Also, could not access alarm from the bed as bedside table was between that and alarm. The mattress was longer than the bed and kept moving so a gap was near the headboard. Mattress very thin, food not cut up for him as requested. He lost a lot of weight in the seven weeks he was there before we moved him to another home. His mobility went. His dentures moved as his gums had shrunk. Toilet seat too low, had requested deeper one. Nothing happened and asked for a doctor to see him as he had 5 falls. Took 3 weeks.

Bed very poor, cover not changed. Alarm mat not always on or under the bed. Food not a good balance i.e. cake for pudding at lunch and tea. Table seat too low, chair not deep enough seat, had to ask more than once for risers. Asked for chiropodist at least on four occasions, never did come also the hairdresser.

My dad was an emergency admission. Brilliant relationships with all staff from the off. As Dad soon settled, due to high staff input and nurture. All interventions seem to be excellent, over and above what one could reasonably expect. As Dad approached the end of life, brilliant care was consistently offered. I could only hope when the time comes, the standards set by this home and staff are for me too.

Reply from Tilly Leitao, Customer & Sales Co-ordinator at Providence Court

Thank you for this kind review. Dealing with emergency admissions can be an anxious time for all concerned, so a proactive approach with good communications between all is vital to ensure a smooth transfer. We are pleased that whilst your father lived at this home, he was looked after with great care and sincere compassion.

My husband has been a resident at Providence Court for the last six weeks, he has been treated with the utmost kindness and respect. I visit him twice daily at various times and I am welcomed every time. The staff put me at ease as I too was in a very vulnerable state, feeling guilty that I had to put my beloved husband into the hands of strangers but everyone involved from managers to all the carers made me feel confident that he would be well cared for.

My father was extremely well cared for over the three years he was a resident here. The staff were superb and very caring. The home was always clean and brightly furnished. My father was treated with respect and dignity. There were several functions when friends and family were invited to come along, but we were also made very welcome whenever we popped in to visit. The catering staff were splendid and the food was freshly prepared and delicious. I cannot praise this care home enough.

I feel my mother's care needs were attended to well. If I did ever have a problem, I could speak to management and this would be dealt with accordingly. Staff were very accommodating, food choices were good, cleanliness was good, greeted by friendly reception staff. The resident doctor is very informative.

My mother has been a resident of Providence Court for 10 months. In general, the service offered has been good. Recently a new care home manager has improved staff attentiveness, reduced reliance on agency staff and lead a general smartening up. My mother's room is lovely and there are many quiet corners where she can sit.

Since my mum was moved to Providence Court after a fire at her previous care home, the staff have been kind with helping her settle in and making her feel at home. She is treated with kindness and dignity. The home is bright and clean and the staff provide activities which she enjoys. I feel confident that my mum is safe and cared for and she is happy and feels at home.

The staff also provide activities for family and friends to join in, i.e. BBQ's, fetes etc.

My mother recently celebrated her 107th birthday and we feel that attaining this great age is mainly attributed to the care she has received at Providence Court. She has been a resident for approx 10 years during which time she has been cared for through chest infections, pneumonia and most recently gastro enteritis. The staff, as well as caring so well for my mother show great kindness and respect.

My mother has been resident here for five years - very pleased with the care home and the staff/management. I call in to see her at least 3 times a week and have always found her to be well looked after - management have always responded well to my requests and concerns, and staff are always attentive and kind and caring to the residents.

The Home Manager runs all aspects of the home and ensures that the home provides a high standard of care. While each Manager brings their own flair to the role, they all have some qualities in common, especially their leadership and organisational skills. The role is very varied, involving plenty of resident interaction alongside the more administrative work to keep the home running smoothly. Our Managers typically hold, or are working towards, a relevant qualification and have proven experience in caring for older people.

The Deputy Manager shares responsibility with the Home Manager for running the home. Deputy Managers will each bring their own skill set to the home, some offering more assistance with the business side of things, while others focus largely on care. However, whether they look at it from a business or care perspective, the focus of the Deputy is always to ensure that their home is offering the very best quality of life for our residents. Experienced and either holding or working towards their qualifications, Deputy Managers are driven to provide the best of everything for their residents.

"I enjoy working with the residents, ensuring they have a homely environment to live in. I also enjoy working on such a good team." – Pat Silah

Keeping the team of Housekeepers running as it should is the Housekeeping Manager. Supervising and organising their teams is just part of it as these Managers work alongside them to keep the home clean and inviting. The comfort of residents is the most important thing to our Housekeeping Managers which is why they work so hard to create an environment in which residents can’t help but feel at home. Multi-tasking and communication skills are some of the most important of the Housekeeping Manager’s qualities as they and their team create a home where resident’s dignity is never compromised and independence is always encouraged. Our Housekeeping Managers ensure that all areas of our home are safe, clean, well maintained and presented in a way to create a warm and homely environment. They have an important role in maintaining our infection, prevention and control standards to make sure our residents stay well.
