My aunt has been at Stanborough Lodge for over 4-years, following the death of her husband. She is now 97-years-old and unable to look after herself in her own home. The home was extremely welcoming and was very efficient in arranging her transfer from the hospital. The care home is small and relatively modest (not like a flash corporate purpose-built place) which suits my aunt well. She is reluctant to socialise, but the staff have done their best to encourage her and meet her needs. She is very comfortable, enjoys the food and is well looked after. The core team of staff has remained unchanged in the time my aunt has been resident, and staff turnover is not an issue. I believe the team has performed particularly well during the Covid pandemic, keeping residents and staff as safe as possible.

There were things going on each day that were enjoyable, but this was only for a short time, the rest of the day was boring. Rooms were ok, but there was little hot water. Taps would have to run for about 15-minutes before the water became warm. Staff friendly and worked very hard.

Our number one criteria when selecting a care home was the trust we would have in the staff. At Stanborough we found them all to be excellent and the continuity of the staff was reassuring and they are all approachable and happy to discuss with us any aspect of Mum's care. We are always made to feel welcome. The daily activities appear to be varied and every effort is made to involve all of the residents.

My mother has vascular dementia and has been a resident at Stanborough Lodge since 2015 when she could no longer live independently. I can’t speak highly enough of the management and staff and the quality and professionalism of the care they provide. My mother is cared for with kindness and respect. She is kept safe and offered flexibility day to day, for example, in what she would like to eat and how she would like to spend her day. She always looks lovely in clean clothes, brushed hair and painted nails and the home is a warm and welcoming place that always smells fresh.
The home does not use agency staff which means there is a sense of belonging and pride among the carers.

Relatives are welcomed and communication on any issues is well managed. From my many conversations with the staff, I have confidence in their knowledge, training and experience of caring for people suffering from dementia.

My mother is well cared for at Stanborough Lodge. When I visit she always appears clean with clean clothes. The staff are very caring and friendly. They are informative and ready to answer questions and contact me with any concerns. Meal times are regular and the menu appears to be pleasing. Sometimes my mother is helped with feeding and usually needs hot or cold drinks held for her. Medication is applied as per GP's instructions. I feel I can rest assured that my mother is in safe hands and looked after very well.

We find Stanborough Lodge a very good care home for our mother to reside in. She has dementia and seems to be very happy and contented in her surroundings. We have had problems in the past before she came here but the staff seem to care and deal really well with her various conditions. She settled in really well and we feel assured that she is being well looked after.

Meet Joanna Sage – Registered Manager at Stanborough Lodge Care Home:

Joanna Sage’s journey into care began with a deeply personal experience: supporting a family member in need. That early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for helping others, especially older people, and laid the foundation for her career in care.

Joanna joined Stanborough Lodge in 2021 as a Care Coordinator. Her dedication and leadership quickly shone through, earning her a promotion to Deputy Manager by November of the same year. In May 2023, she proudly became the Home’s Registered Manager after completing her Level 5 qualification and successfully passing the rigorous CQC interview. She credits the unwavering support of the RMD Care Directors for believing in her and encouraging her every step of the way.

What Joanna Loves Most:
Joanna thrives on the strong sense of teamwork at Stanborough Lodge. “It feels like it's home from home,” she says, “not just a workplace.” Together, the team creates a warm, welcoming environment where residents feel safe, valued, and truly cared for.

A Meaningful Milestone:
Under Joanna’s leadership, the home has gone from strength to strength. She’s especially proud of the strong relationships her team has built with residents’ families, an achievement that reflects her commitment to open communication and compassionate care.

How Her Team Sees Her:
Fun, energetic, hardworking, and supportive—Joanna is known for lifting team morale and boosting confidence. Her leadership style is rooted in empathy and encouragement.

A Memory That Stands Out:
Joanna recalls welcoming a nervous new resident on their first day. She spent time getting to know them, showing them around, and chatting about their interests. By the end of the day, they were smiling and relaxed—a moment that reminded her of the power of kindness and patience.

What “Quality Care” Means to Joanna:
“To me, quality care is all about kindness, respect, and patience,” Joanna explains. “It’s about treating each resident as an individual, listening to what matters to them, and making them feel safe and valued. Reliability and compassion are key—so families know they can trust us.”

A Message to Families:

“When families come to view Stanborough Lodge, I want them to feel reassured and welcomed. Their loved one will be cared for with genuine kindness and attention to what matters most. As a family-run home, we pride ourselves on creating a caring community where every resident feels at home.”
