I would like to express my deepest thanks to the registered home manager and all the staff at Stanborough Lodge for the care and time spent with Mum. My mother sadly passed over on Saturday 2nd September 2023, aged 103. Her last few years were made easier for her, being there, they are a really dedicated group of carers, it must be tough to do what they do everyday but they cope really well. Food is home cooked to a very high standard, also never any complaints from mum. The home itself is always clean and fresh, very homely, more like an old fashioned guest house. No regrets and a good choice from us. Thank you all again from all my mother's family.

Mum has now been at Stanborough Lodge for over six months and we honestly feel that she couldn’t be in a better place. It was difficult for Mum to transition and settle initially but the staff were supportive and it was clear to us that they really care and are flexible around Mum's needs. Their communication with us was reassuring as this first part was difficult for us too. The communication has continued to be excellent. Mum is clearly happy now she has settled and we feel welcomed and ‘part of the family’ when we visit. It is a relief to see the same friendly and welcoming staff faces each time and seeing Mum’s reaction to the staff reassures us that she is well looked after and with a sense of humour too! Mum enjoys getting involved with the activities and it’s good to see them going from strength to strength as new ideas and events are introduced that clearly keep residents entertained and their families included.

My mother spent four weeks in respite care at Stanborough Lodge and, as a family, we were so relieved to have found a place so caring and safe for her, in which to recover. The manager is the best of any I have encountered, taking a personal interest in all the residents' welfare. Mum's room was lovely and the staff very kind and gentle in their approach. I cannot recommend this home enough.

After viewing other facilities for my mum that were much larger and part of a chain of care homes, I immediately felt differently when I walked through the door at Stanborough Lodge. This place felt warm, friendly and homely. We decided to place Mum here initially for two weeks of respite care, and we quickly realised she needed more care than we thought and has now been a resident for almost three months. From day one, we were impressed with the staff and how they handled a very difficult situation. The current manager is an excellent communicator, and nothing has been too much trouble; everything has been dealt with speedily and efficiently considering Mum moved from a different county. It’s great to see the same faces when we visit, and we are always made to feel very welcome. Thank you.

Mum recently passed away, and I can not thank everyone at the Lodge enough for the loving, caring, and dignified way in which they looked after Mum on her final journey. Mum enjoyed her time there, and my sister and I were always made to feel welcome and as though we were visiting Mum's home rather than a care home.

My Mum was put in end-of-life care at Stanborough Lodge two weeks ago sadly she passed away on Sunday. The staff on duty were so caring and were with her at the time she passed they phoned and I was able to go and see her.
All of the staff have been very caring and looked after my Mum very well I could not have wanted a nicer team looking after her, they are dedicated to their job. The Manager and her team are so welcoming and the home makes you feel at home.
Thank you all for looking after her and making my family and me welcome when we visited.

Thank you so much.

The care offered to my late father has been consistently good and was most sensitive to his needs as his health recently deteriorated very severely, necessitating a hospital stay after which he returned on an end-of-life pathway, which the staff implemented with care and efficiency over his few last days.
This was no 'one off' effort, both my parents having been residents since June 2017 and my late mother until her death in April 2021. A double room was made available for my parents, and they were thus able to be together, which materially added to their comfort and enjoyment. The staff brought us through Covid with the best efforts made to enable visiting, and I was able to be at my mother's bedside as she died.

And finally, this is a quiet and restful home, with no constant alarms and buzzers; the management and staff make a 'home-from-home' with their kindness and consideration. Strongly recommended.

Fantastic care home; even though it is a small home, it is always clean and tidy. I was always kept advised of every step of my late father's care right up to the morning he passed away. They have made me welcome on every visit, even during the past four days of dad passing. My sincere thanks go to the manager, the care staff and the activities coordinator, who knew Dad loved a quiz, and even more so, to the carer who sat with Dad during the night that he passed away as she didn't want to leave him by himself during his last hours. On Dad's admittance to the home approximately two years ago, he was made to feel like he was part of this big family, and this also included myself. Every member of staff has shown me compassion and kindness. I would highly recommend Stanborough Lodge and its staff.

My mum has now been here for 12 months, and she loves it.
The manager and her team are very caring and are always there if you need them.
Dealing with dementia is very hard on the family, so it always puts you at ease if you know your family member is being looked after when you're not there.
My mum has just been moved downstairs, and her room has been newly decorated, and it's lovely looking out onto the garden.
The manager and I have a great relationship, and I know I can go to her with anything, and she is always there to listen.

You know if a friend or family member goes to this home, they are well looked after.

The manager at Stanborough Lodge made the difficult decision to place my mother on an end-of-life care pathway about ten days before she died. It was a perceptive decision and a necessary one, which reflected the attention to detail that all staff have given to my mother over the eight years that she was resident. I was fortunate enough to get a call within an hour of my mother's passing and I was touched by the depth to which the night staff mourned her loss. In addition to getting the technicalities of high-quality senior care right, the difference at Stanborough Lodge is their even-handed and inclusive devotion towards and respect for each of their residents. Under the current manager the staff team convey a morale and a sense of mutual support which gives a strong sense that each of them views their work as a vocation rather than just a means to an end.

Excellent welcome by the activity coordinator, and Covid swabs and precautions were carried out. I was able to speak to the manager about a room transfer to a single room and viewed two very pleasant, newly refurbished rooms. There have been other areas of new decorations, and the library and sensory areas are very good additions. All the staff I met were friendly and respectful to residents and visitors. There is a genuine, caring atmosphere throughout the home.

I wish to recommend Stanborough Lodge and its staff in the highest possible terms.
My mother moved into Stanborough Lodge in July 2014. My father had just died. My mother had fallen and fractured her leg. Under these challenging circumstances, we were delighted to obtain a place for Mum at Stanborough Lodge. Mum immediately liked it there. The staff treated her with heartfelt care and innate respect. As her son living and working in Germany, it was particularly important for me to know that Mum was well looked after.
From July 2014 until the pandemic, I was able to visit Mum every 4-6 weeks. It was quickly apparent that Stanborough Lodge had become Mum's home and the staff her friends. This was crucial during the pandemic. I cannot begin to express my gratitude to the staff of Stanborough Lodge for their wonderful care of my mother during that time.

Mum died peacefully at Stanborough Lodge - as she had always wished.

Since my mother has been in Stanborough Lodge care, I have never had any worries or concerns over the home or my mother's care. The staff have always been very friendly and informative. I was more worried about the staff's treatment by my mother when she first arrived. She has now settled down and shows respect for them, and they have always been respectful to her. It has a warm, friendly feeling to the whole place.

My uncle has been a resident now for around five years. I have always found the staff very caring and helpful. My uncle's health has improved since he has been a resident, especially where his diabetes is concerned. I was pleased to find him so well today, as I haven't been to see him for about 8-months due to Covid restrictions. Also, the decorations are in need of sprucing up the tied and dated decor, which will cheer up everyone. The staff work very hard and are always helpful.

My mother has been a resident at Stanborough Lodge for three years. During that time, the care has been excellent, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. She enjoys the meals which are cooked on the premises. There is a high level of staff continuity, most of them having been at the Lodge throughout Mother's stay. I am kept well informed and have been very impressed by the commitment of the management and staff to keep everyone safe during the covid crisis.

Meet Joanna Sage – Registered Manager at Stanborough Lodge Care Home:

Joanna Sage’s journey into care began with a deeply personal experience: supporting a family member in need. That early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for helping others, especially older people, and laid the foundation for her career in care.

Joanna joined Stanborough Lodge in 2021 as a Care Coordinator. Her dedication and leadership quickly shone through, earning her a promotion to Deputy Manager by November of the same year. In May 2023, she proudly became the Home’s Registered Manager after completing her Level 5 qualification and successfully passing the rigorous CQC interview. She credits the unwavering support of the RMD Care Directors for believing in her and encouraging her every step of the way.

What Joanna Loves Most:
Joanna thrives on the strong sense of teamwork at Stanborough Lodge. “It feels like it's home from home,” she says, “not just a workplace.” Together, the team creates a warm, welcoming environment where residents feel safe, valued, and truly cared for.

A Meaningful Milestone:
Under Joanna’s leadership, the home has gone from strength to strength. She’s especially proud of the strong relationships her team has built with residents’ families, an achievement that reflects her commitment to open communication and compassionate care.

How Her Team Sees Her:
Fun, energetic, hardworking, and supportive—Joanna is known for lifting team morale and boosting confidence. Her leadership style is rooted in empathy and encouragement.

A Memory That Stands Out:
Joanna recalls welcoming a nervous new resident on their first day. She spent time getting to know them, showing them around, and chatting about their interests. By the end of the day, they were smiling and relaxed—a moment that reminded her of the power of kindness and patience.

What “Quality Care” Means to Joanna:
“To me, quality care is all about kindness, respect, and patience,” Joanna explains. “It’s about treating each resident as an individual, listening to what matters to them, and making them feel safe and valued. Reliability and compassion are key—so families know they can trust us.”

A Message to Families:

“When families come to view Stanborough Lodge, I want them to feel reassured and welcomed. Their loved one will be cared for with genuine kindness and attention to what matters most. As a family-run home, we pride ourselves on creating a caring community where every resident feels at home.”
