Stanborough Lodge is a stunning Victorian style country home standing on a 3/4 acre plot of picturesque gardens, close to Stanborough Lakes in Welwyn Garden City. A residential care home offering a home from home setting and specialising in dementia care.

The vision is to provide the best quality care and deliver an activity programme created to benefit physical, mental and social well-being. With a dedicated team of care staff who are trained in all aspects of care and are all experienced in supporting residents living with dementia.

Providing 23 furnished rooms, all of which benefit from having en-suite facilities. Traditional meals provide a balanced diet and ensure healthy eating for all residents. The large country garden is the perfect space for leisurely walks, entertaining , sports and outdoor games.

The Activity Programme focuses on mind, body and soul through a range of activities such as fitness classes, musical entertainment, arts and crafts, baking, flower arranging and reminiscence games. By getting involved with the activity programme resident's see improvements in their physical health and their emotional well-being.

Providing residential, respite, dementia and palliative care packages tailored to the needs of each individual within a homely setting.

My brother is a resident at Stanborough Lodge and myself and my friend have visited on many occasions i.e. Xmas Party, BBQ, it's a lovely home, very welcoming and all the staff are lovely and caring. We are all made very welcome, the atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming. I'd give it a 10 out of

Stanborough Lodge Care Home is more than just a care home, it's one big family where staff show so much love and care. The manager has created a warm, friendly environment where my mum has spent the last 2 years. Very professional service with updates regarding health and care and the staff are so quick
to act on any health issues. The activities and events are wonderful to see. Summer bbqs, Halloween parties and Christmas parties help make some very special memories with our loved ones. Special thanks to the manager and her amazing team. They deserve all the awards going.

Yet another outstanding party/celebration for residents and care staff and families - this time for Christmas. My mother has been at the care home coming up to two years. In these two years, my mother has had complications with medication and her eyes started to deteriorate. The manager and staff were extremely understanding, helpful, and kind towards my mum walking around with her until her operation for her
eyes. Now she has clean eyes and is playing pool and getting back involved with all the activities and arts and crafts that the home puts on every day. She is a different person now. The staff has helped her become her own person again and confident now she can see. The care and skill that the staff have, definitely set my mind at ease. Leaving my mother with them after the operation.

Excellent care provided. Staff evidence care and respect for residents. Nothing is ever too much trouble. A range of stimulating activities are a regular feature of the events programme. The atmosphere feels like an extended home from home. When visiting, families are made to feel part of the care home
family. The environment is bright and clean. An excellent provider who is sensitive in its approach, leaving relatives reassured in what can be worrying circumstances when loved ones need to be cared for by others.

My aunt, aged 94, has been here for about six weeks. I visit at least once a week and have been surprised and delighted to see how well my aunt has settled. The whole place is homely and not at all clinical and visitors are really welcomed. The staff are simply wonderful, the care is great and my aunt
keeps confirming this. What a difference it makes having a permanent team of carers, activity co-ordinator and other staff, led by a very kind, efficient and effective manager. Many activities and several places residents can sit; lounge, library, dining room and garden. So nice to have a small home, with a maximum of 23 residents and this means I now recognise several of them are and can chat with them with auntie, even if she cannot remember their names. The recent 'Wild West' summer party was a hoot! Costumes, barbecue, music, line dancing. Lots of family members, including children and my aunt loved it. I absolutely know that Stanborough Lodge is the best possible place for auntie to be.

My elderly Mum went to Stanborough Lodge at the end of July. She'd always feared care homes, having experienced poor care of my father 20 years before in an NHS dementia care unit. I knew the process to be difficult. I'd had experience before when searching for a care home for my brother who has Alzheimer's.
My mum's Dementia is different, a lot of her old self remains. I was lucky to find Stanborough Lodge, just by chance. It had to be near local villages which limited my search. It is not one of those modern impersonal, 70-100-bed care homes. It is compact, with 23/24 rooms. Residents and families are drawn in immediately by its homely, friendly atmosphere. There's regular entertainment; quizzes and singing that's full of fun and stimuli. The staff are wonderful; caring and thoughtful and the manager; a wealth of experience and understanding of dementia, is marvellous, very empathetic to both her residents and their relatives during what can be a difficult transition. Mum has settled well she says 'I'm lucky to be here'. I'm very fortunate too.

I have been a resident at Stanborough Lodge since May 2024, and I couldn't be happier with the level of care I receive. The staff here are incredibly attentive and genuinely care about the well-being of each resident. They go above and beyond to make sure we are comfortable and have everything we need.
The staff are always prompt in addressing any health concerns, and the activities coordinators do a fantastic job of keeping us engaged with various programs and events. The Manager and Care coordinator lead the team by example, which shows how good the home is and running well. Whenever I needed the management I knew they were always available. Home Manager's door always open for us residents. The environment is warm and welcoming, and I truly feel at home here. I highly recommend Stanborough Lodge to anyone looking for a caring and supportive place to live.

My husband, who has Alzheimer's, went into Stanborough Lodge in February 2024. The care and support he has received from the outstanding manager and all her staff has been exemplary. They have all worked so hard to ensure he is settled and in a safe environment.

We visited my father's cousin back in February 2024. Our first impression was that the house looked clean, tidy and well-kept. On entering the building, the first contact with the staff was very favourable, as they were friendly and polite.
The room was a good size and bright. The staff offered to
make a round of hot drinks for us and delivered them a short while later. Again, being very polite and friendly.
My father's cousin had booked us lunch in the dining room and we were treated to a Sunday roast dinner and apple crumble dessert. It was very tasty and very unexpected.
In total we visited for nearly 3 hours and in all that time we were most impressed with the home and the staff we dealt with.
It was a very pleasant experience and my father's cousin looked happy and well cared for.

I am very happy with the care that Mum is receiving from Stanborough Lodge. The Manager has gone beyond her job to ensure everyone is well occupied and the home well managed. I could not thank her enough. All staff are friendly, smiling at all times, whenever I needed them staff always available.

Although not an immediate relative, we have always considered my brother-in-law's Mum to be as close to the family as she possibly could be. She is a lovely, kind, caring lady, who we all love dearly. We were all so sad when her demise into dementia began, finally culminating in her having to go into
a care home. My sister and brother-in-law looked very carefully at several care homes to find the best possible one they could and settled on Stanborough Lodge, which they are very happy with. I have visited a few times and always found the staff to be most welcoming, helpful and kind. They ensure our lovely lady is kept safe and well looked after. There is also good communication between the manager and the family. When I have visited, I have always been offered a drink and shown to somewhere that we can talk comfortably. The home is clean and well presented and there appear to be several activities to keep the residents occupied. I know the parties are always a great success too!

My stepdad went into Stanborough Lodge for respite in December 2022 and then was a permanent resident from September 2023. Lovely care home. Very homely feel. Staff very friendly and attentive and we were always made to feel welcome. Entertainment good.

I was originally looking for care homes nearer to where I live but after visiting many I decided to go to see Stanborough Lodge as my partner had been in for respite a year before. As soon as I went in I realised it was the place that I wanted him to be. The manager and all of the team there are amazing
and the kindness, care and compassion that they showed to my partner, my family and me was second to none.
It really is a home away from home and it is just like being a part of a big family.
Sadly my partner passed away in February this year but I still continue to keep in touch and will visit whenever I can.
Amazing place and staff and I would give 10 stars if I could.

Overall, Stanborough Lodge has been an excellent choice for my mother, who has dementia. The Home is just that - homely. Don't expect white walls and stainless steel, the decoration is much closer to a seaside hotel, and very welcoming in that regard. The care assistants are friendly and professional
and look after my mother with care and attention. There is very little staff turnover - which speaks for itself. Events are organised on a regular basis and participation is encouraged, they have a real 'family' feel. Well recommended.

Meet Joanna Sage – Registered Manager at Stanborough Lodge Care Home:


Joanna Sage’s journey into care began with a deeply personal experience: supporting a family member in need. That early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for helping others, especially older people, and laid the foundation for her career in care.

Joanna joined Stanborough Lodge in 2021 as a Care Coordinator. Her dedication and leadership quickly shone through, earning her a promotion to Deputy Manager by November of the same year. In May 2023, she proudly became the Home’s Registered Manager after completing her Level 5 qualification and successfully passing the rigorous CQC interview. She credits the unwavering support of the RMD Care Directors for believing in her and encouraging her every step of the way.

Our Care Coordinator Neethu is passionate about care and providing the best service possible to our residents. Joining the team in November 2020 as a Senior she was promoted to the position of Care Coordinator in April 2024. She works closely with the Senior Carers to ensure our residents are provided with the highest quality of care and are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Gayathri joined our team in January 2023 as a carer and was promoted to the position of senior carer in April 2023. Gayathri has been working in the healthcare sector since 2007 and enjoys caring for our residents. She works closely with her care team to deliver the best care possible for our residents.

Shyja is one of our Senior Carers here at Stanborough Lodge. She joined the team in March 2022 and works closely with our Care Coordinator to ensure our residents receive the best level of care possible.

Liz is our head housekeeper here at Stanborough Lodge. She works closely with the care team to ensure high-traffic areas are kept clean and sanitised and works to a weekly deep cleaning schedule to help keep our residents' rooms clean and safe.
