Care provided is second to none. They are very knowledgeable, understanding and patient with the residents.
They have gone above and beyond their management duties. Caring for the residents is always their priority.
They provide a homely environment with very clean rooms and encourage the residents
to participate as much as possible and do not leave them lying in their beds all day long. They make sure they are up, washed and dressed and downstairs for meals. They provide a range of activities to occupy them and help keep their minds active.

Today I visited my Grandad at Westerly Care home and he told me that he likes it a lot and that they are very good to him. The staff are outstanding and make relatives feel so welcome. It is so reassuring seeing what an amazing community they have and such a positive atmosphere. Thank you so much to
all staff.

Westerley Care Home have looked after my dear husband who has vascular dementia and Alzheimer's since March 2024. The staff and Management go the extra mile to make him feel at home and cared for. They always engage with him and have learnt the best ways to keep him happy and content. There is a very
welcoming atmosphere in the home and the carers always make sure visitors are welcomed with refreshments. I am kept informed and consulted with regard his care and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged. Thank you all for your kindness

We chose Westerly to facilitate the care for my auntie, she has 3.5 very good years at Westerley, she was treated with dignity and respect from the very start. A good level of care issued, a lot of efforts with Resident trips out and community mixing, games and entertainment at the residence. The staff's
communication via call and e-mail was very proficient and there was never any time when I had to guess what was going on. There care assistants/support workers were all very sweet and nice and really put the residents' needs first. The Management of this establishment is strong and well-run. All in I was very happy with my Aunt's 3.5 year stay at Westerley, she was very safe in their care, which we as a family will always be very grateful for.

Please do not place your loved one in this care home. My father was in this care home during covid. The care home did not allow my father to have his personal belongings in his room. When I eventually went into his room it was bare. (The care home didn’t follow government guidelines in allowing carers
into the care home). According to them, he destroyed his belongings. We then found them at the top of the wardrobe. We found other residents' creams in his room, and other residents named clothes. He lost weight. The care home said that my father had behaviour issues. He was then doped up on antipsychotic medication. He had 11 UTIs in one year. He was admitted to the hospital 3 times due to the UTI’s. He had undocumented bruising. The care home said they updated me but could not provide the evidence when requested by safeguarding. My father is now in a better care home he has had no UTI’s in 6 months, no hospital admissions and is no longer on antipsychotic medication.
Reply from Fardeen Ghoghai, Manager at Westerley Residential Care

We are very saddened that you still feel this way. As you are aware Hertfordshire Monitoring Team, Hertfordshire Safeguarding and CQC have spent over a year investigating your concerns and all claims are unfounded i.e. no abuse of any kind has taken place. On numerous occasions, we have provided your family and all authorities concerned with evidenced documentation which demonstrates candour and innocence which you and your sister have chosen to ignore.
Living and supporting those with dementia can be very difficult, whilst your father has been within our home we have looked after him and supported his needs. It may be difficult to accept but in the absence of his family, we cared for him and loved him. Many carers, team leaders and managers have honourably supported your father and other residents throughout covid. Although we all miss your father very much, we take comfort knowing his family is actively supporting his new care home in meeting his needs.

I want to write a review of Westerley where my mother was a resident from June 2018 until her death in January 2022 at the age of 94. When we were looking for a care home for Mum, we naturally looked at several. We chose Westerley largely because relatives of other residents approached us unbidden on
our visits to say how pleased they were with the care provided. I can say they were absolutely correct. Mum was very happy there and on every visit, she said how nice the staff were and how good the food was. I should say that Mum had dementia and it deteriorated during her time there. The staff were so caring and nothing was ever too much for them. Inevitably the effects of Covid have played a significant part during Mum's time there and have placed enormous strains on the staff. However you would never have known this, they were always so pleasant and standards dropped not even a notch. So I would like, on behalf of my family, to say a massive thank you to all the management and staff.

My husband suffers from vascular dementia and when I realised that I will not be able to look after him for much longer I started to look for care homes. I saw many and lost count! I was beginning to despair and wondered if I would find the right home for my husband. Then someone suggested Westerley
Care Home just before the Covid lockdown started. The first thing that struck me was “there was no smell here”; “the home is very colourful and clean”; “the room was not a pokey hole but spacious with toilet facilities” and lastly the staff was very friendly, my mind was made up there and then. A year and a half on the care home has not failed me, and without reservations, I would recommend them highly.

My dear Mum was discharged from hospital to Westerley Care Home in February. I have not yet been inside, due to Covid but this place has saved my Mum's life. The staff and management are lovely, full of care, love and devotion to their vocation. Mum loves the food and looks so well. There are always
activities to do and everyone working there, goes beyond what one could reasonably expect of a care home. This is indeed a home from home, and I can only commend this care home. I recommend it wholeheartedly and in these troubled times, it is lovely to know that Mum is very safe, cared for, and genuinely loved.

I have been visiting my friend since she moved to Westerley a couple of years ago. I'm always met with a friendly face at the front door and offered refreshment and a choice of where to sit with my friend. The carers seem kindly and attentive and the building does not smell (as some places unfortunately
do). I would be happy to recommend this Home to anyone looking in the area. Parking arrangements are good.

When looking for a residential care home for our mother, we visited Westerley Residential Care Home. The home manager met with us and spent considerable time explaining the ethos and care practices. Looking back over the years, we felt wholehearted that Mum had received an excellent level of care throughout
her stay.

The home feels like a “home”, humble, warm and loving. Clean carpets and lots of family pictures. We were encouraged to emulate mum’s new home with her old, by personalising her room with ornaments, pictures, furniture and curtains etc. Throughout mum’s time are Westerley coming to see her became such a joy, we would walk in and be offered with a warm cuppa and a cheeky slice of cake and biscuits. We could come anytime of day, it was like visiting mum at her own home. Westerley has excellent communication, keeping us up to date of mums health.

My sisters and I visited 12 different care homes before choosing Westerley Care. We immediately felt this was the right home for dad and still feel this way. Relatives want a high standard of physical care but also want to know their family member is made welcome and cared for in every sense. The management
team at Westerley is impressive and highly experienced. They have established genuine caring relationships which clearly is part of their code of ethics. One can see that staff are very well trained which enables the Healthcare Assistants to build solid relationships with the residents, family and friends whilst respecting their dignity and wishes. The whole team is always smiling and welcoming; the atmosphere is calm and good-humoured, often with a sense of fun and enjoyment. The emotional, physical and mental needs of the residents are met by staff in a close and attentive manner.

So pleased with the care and respect shown to both of my parents at Westerley. They have been in care for a year now since dementia became a serious issue for them both and it was impossible to care for them at home.
They settled well, Mum is probably more mobile now than she was at home and they
are very well cared for. I visit almost daily after work and see the staff with their service users at the end of the day and am always amazed at how efficiently and easily they manage to deal with some difficult individuals (and yes I do mean my parents) with patience and calmness. I also like the way that the staff treat my parents as I would - with affection and laugh with them and compliment them.

All in all, I love the fact that they are well looked after and cared for and the peace of mind that gives is worth so much. Thank you to the manager and the staff for my sanity.

Both my mum and dad have have been residents at Westerley Care Home for over 4 wonderful years. The Home Manager and her team are both extremely caring, kind and professional. They always make time to ensure that mum and dads needs are exceeded. Both my family and their friends would not want my
parents to be in any other home. I trust Westerley to take care of my parents. I can rest easy knowing Mum and Dad are happy and their health and well being looked after.

Wonderful staff who really care about the residents within a beautiful home. Westerley is a "home away from home" it's cosy, comfortable and feels like a family home, not clinical like other care homes. My mum settled at Westerley very quickly and I can rest easy knowing she's happy and well looked
after. My mum calls all the staff "Angels sent from heaven". Westerley is a fantastic care home.

My wife has been a resident at Westerley Care for over 7 years. The care provided by all the staff including the management is excellent. When you ring they all have knowledge of how my wife is, they know me personally, when I need to talk to her or just to hear her voice. Everyone who works there
is very helpful and always smiling, they cant do enough for her and me.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.896)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.896) out of 10 for Westerley Residential Care is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.854 for Westerley Residential Care is calculated as follows: ( (41 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.854
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.042 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westerley Residential Care is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.667
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
