The home became 'Lindau' when bought in December 1985 by Mr and Mrs Curtis Christie. The name comes from a city in Bavaria in the extreme South of Germany, freely translated in English means "a green and grassy plain filled with peace and tranquillity". Lindau is located within a small seaside town which is a 5 minute walk to the beach, good access to shops, public transport and other amenities.

In 1986, the home grew from a registration of eight residents in six bedrooms to fifteen residents in fourteen bedrooms. Three years later and the home was enlarged again to twenty-four single size of rooms and one double, many of which have en-suite toilets. The home was bought by a father and son in 2006 who still own the home to date. This was extended to twenty six residents in 2008. In 2010 an additional floor was built bringing the number of bedrooms to 37 single rooms 27 of which are en-suite. Bedrooms range in size with newly refurbished rooms being very well presented.

At Lindau, residents can enjoy a wide variety of entertainments and activities. Indoors there are many activities including arts and crafts, musical bingo, chair exercises, greyhound racing, horse racing, playing cards, or board games. The garden has been completely landscaped in 2021 with large patio areas for residents to sit outside and enjoy the garden.

We needed a respite placement urgently and staff come out the same day to assess my wife. She was accepted and settled in the following day. Unfortunately for us, the respite care has now turned into full-time placement. We have found that the staff at all levels to be very friendly and helpful. The
staff all look to be happy to work there and greet me by name when I visit and let me know how my wife is getting on. The care that my wife is receiving is excellent. The manager and her staff are really on the ball and very caring, which gives me great peace of mind.

I had been recommended Lindau as one of my mum's friends was a resident. Once she had settled in, Mum began to feel part of a community again - she really enjoys the activities and trips out. The staff are committed to providing a caring and safe environment.

We needed a respite placement urgently and staff came out the same day to assess and by the evening my friend was in the home and has had good support to settle in. I have found the staff to be very helpful and approachable, the manager has been amazing. Always something going on for residents to enjoy.

As soon as you walk in you are greeted by lovely friendly staff also many residents!
There's such a warm atmosphere, very homely.
My friend has been in a few homes over the last few years but this is by far the best!
The activities are great, I ended up doing a watercolour with my friend that was
being taught by a talented artist that comes in and paints with them.
Their paintings are then put on the wall!

My mum has been here for just over a year and has settled in brilliantly, the home has a great atmosphere and the staff have gone out of their way to help my mum feel at home and also help my mum with her needs as she has a rare form of dementia which affects her vision.

The friendly staff immediately brought my friend to me and asked if I'd like a cup of tea. The singles tennis match was being watched and a program of all Wimbledon fixtures was available. Nursery school children had been arranging flowers with the residents and they were now enjoying a packed lunch
outside in the sun. My friend and I then went and sat in the beautifully tended garden and it was noticeable how happy and smart the residents were. Most impressed.

The registered manager, operations manager and all the staff at Lindau Care Home are amazing. My uncle has been in there for 5 weeks and I couldn't fault this place and all the staff in any way. They are friendly, kind and very caring and the home is so clean and tidy. It was a very hard decision when
we were looking at care homes but as soon as we walked in Lindau we knew straight away that this was the right one and my uncle is so happy and content here and we don't have to worry as he is being so well looked after and cared for. I would highly recommend Lindau to anyone who is looking for a family member as you will be just as happy and pleased as we are. So thank you so much for looking after our family member, you are all amazing.

My mother moved into Lindau in December 2023 as a series of falls and other healthcare issues made it impossible for her to stay in her own home. I have been consistently impressed by the quality of care and support that she receives from every member of staff and am so relieved we found such a wonderful
home to take care of her needs.

I visit my friend regularly in Lindau where she has been a resident for a couple of years. She is happy to be at Lindau as she feels safe and warm and is a lot less lonely than when she lived alone at home, having become widowed. She had started to get confused with memory problems and had reached the
stage of not being safe enough to be on her own at home.
She enjoys living at Lindau and has a busy social calendar now.

My mother has been through a dreadful time with bereavement, betrayal, theft and found herself homeless and in very poor health. She has been through the NHS system and has been unsettled and scared. However, she and our family are so relieved and grateful to the staff at Lindau for their care, compassion
and practicality and experience in my mother's care.
We hope that she remains at Lindau for the rest of her life if possible as we have found them to be faultless in the comfort she deserves.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.886)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.886) out of 10 for Lindau Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.886 for Lindau Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (397 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 439 Ratings = 4.886
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lindau Residential Home is based on 37 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 37 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
