Carleton Lodge and Carleton Mead stand side by side, overlooking the busy sea bay, with views all the way to France.

The Royal Marines bandstand is on the green a few minutes away and musical concerts in the summer are a great feature of Deal life. The Deal Lifeboat centre and the yachting club nearby adds to the local marine interest of the Walmer area. Good local shops, the town centre and Deal Castle are a short distance as are GP surgeries and all other services.

All rooms are thoughtfully decorated and equipped and residents are encouraged to bring in their own favourite furniture and possessions. Care workers provide a safe, homely atmosphere and a totally flexible life-style. Emphasis is placed on individuality and independence. Residents enjoy a choice of meals, prepared daily, using freshly purchased, local produce.

Staff are always pleased to meet with visitors to discuss their needs.

The care home had a wonderful afternoon tea out in the garden. Pimms, scones, cakes etc, much prepared by the residents. Also, a man playing the saxophone. Later in the month, there was the summer lunch which had games, a singer and many of the residents dancing.

My mum has been in the home for 3 weeks and appears to have settled well now. All our questions and concerns were answered during the transition stage. Mum appears clean and well dressed in her own clothes which is also important to me. All staff are approachable and happy to listen to me however minor
my query is.

My mother has been here for almost 2 years.
The staff and management have been great. The little extra time and effort they do for all residents is lovely.
I feel comfortable that mum is being cared for.

My friend and neighbour was admitted to Walmer Care Home in January. After two years of treatment for myloma where I was the main support and carer. He was very poorly, but after your most professional carers have nursed and supported him he has been able to retain his dignity whilst losing control
of his independent life. All staff are so positive and helpful. It's a pleasure to be a visitor the encouragement of activities and continuing life is excellent.

After 10 years of home care, Carelton Lodge was chosen and we are very fortunate in that my wife quickly felt so at home and clearly continues to enjoy herself in her congenial surroundings. We are always welcomed by a happy crew, plenty of natural smiles and we feel a strong sense of relationship with
the staff and their high level of care, compassion and concern for all of their residents. A team member will give is an update on my wife's recent activities and presentation. the weekly news update/plan for the coming week is very reassuring and demonstrates the wide range of both practical and enjoyable range of activities in which residents can participate. An example of thoughtfulness in the level of care was holding a Valentines Tea for residents and their partners - an utterly delightful two hours for both of us!
Our family appreciate that the care teams are flexible with visiting times around the protected meal times.
The Carelton Team really do go above and beyond to ensure that their residents are treated as individuals and have created a warm, kind and caring environment for all them and visitors.

My mum decided that residential care would be her best option due to immobility and living alone in her own home. She tried 2 weeks respite care initially, and decided to make it permanent. The staff are lovely, and nothing seems too much trouble. Residents are given as much help as they need and are
treated with dignity and respect. Mum has made some friends, and has a far superior quality of life with good company in a beautiful place. The location is far better suited for myself and siblings to visit her, and she seems very happy.

Mum has been part of the home family for over 5 years now. A really wonderful caring team, you couldn't ask for better. I love chatting to other residents and the working team. I never have to worry if my Mum is ok. The activities are great, whether they are one to one, as a larger group or visiting
school children, dancers, singers. Thank you for looking after my Mum xx

The care centre is lovely it has a real friendly, homely feel to it. The staff are great, they are very caring and always available to talk to, they treat my aunt with care and respect.
The management team are very approachable and always keep me informed on how my aunt is doing and always let me know
if they have any concerns regarding my aunts health and always let me know if they have had to call for medical assistance for my aunt.
My aunt has been at the home for almost a year now, she is happy and has settled really well. It is great to know she is so happy and cared for so well.
Thank you to all the staff!

I have been volunteering here since October. I have always found the staff very welcoming. I have observed a very keen sense of belonging to a family when the staff attend to the residents. There is a very varied activity programme which runs every day. I think the biggest asset which I have seen every
member of staff has is patience - something that is so crucial for the residents living here. They are cared for as individuals with dignity and kindness.

Dad moved into Walmer Care Centre in October 2024, he has always said he would never accept moving into a care home, even when in hospital after falls he was always wanting to leave before his treatment had finished. We took Dad with trepidation wondering how long he would last, he is still there three
months later and he is very happy. The staff are wonderful, kind, respectful and engaging. There is always a cheerful atmosphere and the care is outstanding. Why were we worried, Dad is thriving.

I have been so impressed by the professionalism, caring nature and general helpfulness of every member of staff at Walmer Care Centre since I first contacted them in early January to enquire about urgent short-notice respite care. The gentleman whom I was assisting to arrange the respite care is being
looked after extraordinarily well. The standard of care provided is exceptional. It is clear that everyone who works there, from the carers and senior carer to the deputy manager and manager, are naturally caring people who are committed to doing the best job possible for their residents, and take a genuine interest in each individual resident. It is the people who work there who really make this place what it is. Thank you to you all.

My father-in-law has been at Walmer Care Centre for nearly a year. There is such a homely warm environment and visitors are welcomed at any time. The care he receives is done with compassion, kindness and respect. We know that we can trust the staff to do the best for him and manage his difficulties
as his dementia progresses. Staff are always available to listen to any concerns or worries and keep us informed of any changes needed regarding the care plan. We feel each person is treated as an individual and care is thoughtfully given to respect what's best personally.
As a family, we cannot praise the staff enough for their patience and commitment to care in a thoughtful, kindly way.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Walmer Care Centre.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.801)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.801) out of 10 for Walmer Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.801 for Walmer Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (280 Excellents x 5) + (54 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 341 Ratings = 4.801
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Walmer Care Centre is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
