Carleton Lodge and Carleton Mead stand side by side, overlooking the busy sea bay, with views all the way to France.

The Royal Marines bandstand is on the green a few minutes away and musical concerts in the summer are a great feature of Deal life. The Deal Lifeboat centre and the yachting club nearby adds to the local marine interest of the Walmer area. Good local shops, the town centre and Deal Castle are a short distance as are GP surgeries and all other services.

All rooms are thoughtfully decorated and equipped and residents are encouraged to bring in their own favourite furniture and possessions. Care workers provide a safe, homely atmosphere and a totally flexible life-style. Emphasis is placed on individuality and independence. Residents enjoy a choice of meals, prepared daily, using freshly purchased, local produce.

Staff are always pleased to meet with visitors to discuss their needs.

The care given to my mother throughout her six years in Carlton Lodge was outstanding. The staff were so caring, kind and fun with her. She was always well turned out and we were so happy to know how well she was being cared for. Absolutely outstanding staff, thank you.

Fantastic. My wife never mentioned home for the six years she was cared for. Initially, she looked forward to my visits until during the pandemic when the staff took great care of her. She was very happy and was cared for better than I could in any way at home. They kept her safe from Covid and ensured
that she was comfortable and safe at all times. I and my family are extremely happy that we chose this home. Right at the end my family were by her bedside with frequent staff visits constantly checking on us all and providing refreshments.
Reply from Jill Hyland, Manager at Walmer Care CentreThank you. As you know you and your wife were big parts of our family and we were so pleased as a team to be able to provide care for her for so many years, she is dearly missed by all. Thank you for your kind feedback.

My mother was in Walmer Care Centre for six years until she passed away on 10/02/2022. I could not wish for better care! The staff retention over the years has been amazing, which offered my mother good quality and consistent care. She was always happy and comfortable. The carers were with her to the
end. I could not praise the home enough and am grateful Mum had the opportunity to be cared for there.
Reply from Jill Hyland, Manager at Walmer Care CentreThank you so much for this feedback. Mum was a big part of our family, and we had the pleasure of 6-years to enjoy her singing and beautiful smile. She will be missed very much by all.

My mother-in-law went for a temporary rehab stay after a brain bleed (hemorrhagic stroke). We needed a care home urgently, and after a check of CQC ratings and from our local knowledge, we found that Walmer Care Centre had a room. What an amazing place, from the moment we arrived, such a professional
transfer from car to chair to her new room, and the care carried on from there. They treated her as an individual from the moment we arrived, and they really cared about her. Having been in Hospital for a couple of weeks, this was a change indeed. She has now decided to live there permanently, and it is just so nice for my wife and I to know she is being well looked after by an amazing team. Thank you, Walmer Care Centre Team!

Mum recently moved into Walmer Care Centre, first on respite and now as a permanent resident. The family has been warmly welcomed into the community, and the care is excellent. We were able to go away on a 2-week holiday, knowing Mum would be well looked after and I had no worries about being away.
Medical issues are dealt with before I raise concerns. Mum has settled in well and loves her sea view.

When my mother came to Walmer in February 2017 she was lost in her dementia and had very few outside friends or contacts to help her. Her early days at the home were difficult but with love and support from the staff she gradually regained her dignity and to some extent her sense of humour and became
more recognisable as her "old self".
The care she has been provided with both by the staff and by outside intervention at their discretion has made her life worthwhile again and she continues to thrive in the positive and supportive surroundings which the home provides.
Although I have been unable to visit during the COVID pandemic, the weekly newsletters and videos provided by the home have been very welcome and have given me confidence that all my mother's needs have been provided for as they were previously and that she is fully cared for and cherished in her lovely surroundings.
I think we were very lucky to find this caring place for my mother and I always feel welcomed by the staff.

My husband has been at Carleton Lodge for a year now and during that time, he has received such kind, compassionate care from the staff that he has recovered exceptionally well from a very low point in his life. The staff are always friendly, helpful, and loving and they work hard to meet the needs
of each resident. During the lockdown period, staff arranged video calls and when possible, a wave through the window. I could not have wished for a better care home for my husband and I thank all the staff and management for their continued care and compassion.

Walmer Care Centre is my mum’s third care home and by far the best. The other two nursing homes have asked us to move mum due to her advanced Alzheimer’s, saying they couldn’t cope with her needs but after 8 months at Walmer she is a different person, much calmer, she is always clean and tidy and very
well looked after. We are regularly kept up to date with what’s happening and nothing is any bother to the wonderful, caring staff. The home is very clean, safe, tidy. Snacks and drinks available all the time and great food too. I’ve looked around many homes around this area and this is by far the best care homes I’ve seen. Can’t recommend it enough.

My wife has now been a guest at Walmer Care Centre since December 20th, six months of warm and loving care. I know most of the staff by now though I sometimes get their names muddled. Without exception, they are a lovely group of carers who have handled all the additional problems of Covid in their
stride. The residents are handled with loving care and I am so happy with them. My wife, who is a dementia sufferer, interacts with them very well and seems to feel at home with them.

During this time of great uncertainty and anxiety, we have not had to worry about our dear Mum; she has been safe and well looked after by the kind and professional staff at the Care Centre. They have taken every precaution to keep themselves and residents safe and we are very grateful and relieved
that she's in safe hands. During this time we've been able to see Mum via regular video calls and now we are able to have properly supervised and safe garden visits to her. The weekly newsletter is upbeat and keeps us in the loop about what's going on and how Mum is doing.
We are so grateful for the dedication and care of the staff and the sensible and professional way they are dealing with this pandemic and the risks involved. Thank you all.

The whole team at Walmer Care Centre have pulled out all the stops to make things as least challenging as possible for the residents during this extended lockdown period and I can't thank or praise them enough. Although we have not been able to take advantage of the socially distanced visits that have
been organised to visit mum we have been able to Zoom on a regular basis thanks to the staff taking the laptop into her room so we all get to see each other. Mum's time during lockdown has been so much better at WCC than it would have been if she had been in her own home thanks to the staffs' enthusiasm and kindness. Everyone there has our gratitude for keeping the residents (and staff) safe and well, and entertained and happy in these difficult times and the weekly family update that they send out keeps us feeling involved. Hopefully, things will get back to some semblance of normality soon so we can all get together again, but until then THANK YOU all from the bottom of our hearts.

The care and compassion shown to residents by all members of staff at Carlton Lodge is excellent. Management is aware of each residents requirements both medically and socially. Activities are arranged on a regular basis for the residents, and family members can often be involved. There is a true

Lovely helpful staff at a very nicely kept home in a beautiful position by the sea with good views. The care and organization of the residents is a high standard. Also most importantly the residents have entertainment and interactive with music, cooking and themes. What I appreciate is they are kept
mobilised if possible with exercise and are taken out in the fresh air if it is possible. The food is excellent. My mum has had various health issues cleared up which have been long term problems in the past. She is clean, well cared for in hygiene, clean clothes and other services like hairdressing provided where possible. I feel she is extremely well looked after and the most important thing is the attitude of the staff. They treat her with respect, humour and a caring attitude.

The well-being of the residents, both physical, mental and emotional, is central to the care being given at Walmer Care Centre. All staff are committed to ensuring that the lives of their residents, or "family members" as they prefer to call them, are as fulfilling and enjoyable as possible. This is
reflected in the physical care they receive, the respect and dignity with which they are treated and the wide range of activities provided which are aimed to accommodate the interests of all those living there. Performers are often invited and outings arranged, such as to hear the Royal Marine Band perform and the very successful trip to a wildlife park last summer.
There are monthly care plan reviews to which family members are invited as well as regular meetings to update family and friends on practice and new developments within the Home. Attendance and participation of relatives and friends in activities which are arranged is often encouraged.

Dad has been here just over a year now and is very happy. He has settled well and treats some of the staff the way he treated me when he was at home, which is lovely. Seeing that, I know he is happy and relaxed. Throughout the COVID time, the care has been absolutely marvelous. I cannot fault anything
and just feel so lucky that my Dad has a place there.

I cannot praise Walmer Care Centre enough for their continuing care towards Mum. Mum has been in and out of hospital with infections and the last time my sister and I visited Mum she looked so poorly that we as a family thought we were going to lose her. Since being back at Walmer Care Centre, Mum has
flourished and this is down to the wonderful care, staff and management. Mum is laughing and smiling again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I'm really pleased with the care, kindness and patience shown to my sister as she settles into her new surroundings. The overall atmosphere is relaxed, comfortable and very homely. I can pop in to see my sister at any time and I'm always made to feel welcome and greeted with a smile whenever I visit.
All the staff are friendly, cheerful and helpful but most of all they treat all the residents with respect, dignity and compassion. The staff keep me well informed as to my sister's care plan/needs etc and if I have any queries they are addressed promptly and efficiently.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.773)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.773) out of 10 for Walmer Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.773 for Walmer Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (310 Excellents x 5) + (66 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 387 Ratings = 4.773
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Walmer Care Centre is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
