The care and compassion shown to residents by all members of staff at Carlton Lodge is excellent. Management is aware of each residents requirements both medically and socially. Activities are arranged on a regular basis for the residents, and family members can often be involved. There is a true family atmosphere and the staff are striving continually to offer more opportunities to enhance the residents well being.

Lovely helpful staff at a very nicely kept home in a beautiful position by the sea with good views. The care and organization of the residents is a high standard. Also most importantly the residents have entertainment and interactive with music, cooking and themes. What I appreciate is they are kept mobilised if possible with exercise and are taken out in the fresh air if it is possible. The food is excellent. My mum has had various health issues cleared up which have been long term problems in the past. She is clean, well cared for in hygiene, clean clothes and other services like hairdressing provided where possible. I feel she is extremely well looked after and the most important thing is the attitude of the staff. They treat her with respect, humour and a caring attitude.

Overall Experience
The well-being of the residents, both physical, mental and emotional, is central to the care being given at Walmer Care Centre. All staff are committed to ensuring that the lives of their residents, or "family members" as they prefer to call them, are as fulfilling and enjoyable as possible. This is reflected in the physical care they receive, the respect and dignity with which they are treated and the wide range of activities provided which are aimed to accommodate the interests of all those living there. Performers are often invited and outings arranged, such as to hear the Royal Marine Band perform and the very successful trip to a wildlife park last summer.

There are monthly care plan reviews to which family members are invited as well as regular meetings to update family and friends on practice and new developments within the Home. Attendance and participation of relatives and friends in activities which are arranged is often encouraged.

Dad has been here just over a year now and is very happy. He has settled well and treats some of the staff the way he treated me when he was at home, which is lovely. Seeing that, I know he is happy and relaxed. Throughout the COVID time, the care has been absolutely marvelous. I cannot fault anything and just feel so lucky that my Dad has a place there.

I cannot praise Walmer Care Centre enough for their continuing care towards Mum. Mum has been in and out of hospital with infections and the last time my sister and I visited Mum she looked so poorly that we as a family thought we were going to lose her. Since being back at Walmer Care Centre, Mum has flourished and this is down to the wonderful care, staff and management. Mum is laughing and smiling again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I'm really pleased with the care, kindness and patience shown to my sister as she settles into her new surroundings. The overall atmosphere is relaxed, comfortable and very homely. I can pop in to see my sister at any time and I'm always made to feel welcome and greeted with a smile whenever I visit.

All the staff are friendly, cheerful and helpful but most of all they treat all the residents with respect, dignity and compassion. The staff keep me well informed as to my sister's care plan/needs etc and if I have any queries they are addressed promptly and efficiently.

It was a very hard decision to put my mother into a home, she had been suffering with Alzheimer’s for a number of years.
We now realise that it has been a very positive move for her.
We have been very impressed with the care and kindness my mother has received at this home, she has gone from being very stressed and anxious, one of the effects of her illness, to being happy, relaxed, much calmer and is thriving in the community of this home.
She has settled in surprisingly quickly.

All visitors are made very welcome by all the staff who are dedicated, professional and caring.

When I realised that dad would need more support than I could give at home Carleton Lodge was my first choice for a Care Home. And when I say Care HOME this is exactly what it is - a real home from home where the residents are treated as members of the family.
They cared for mum for 5 years until she passed away 18 months ago and I was happy to find nearly all the same staff members were still there and greeted me like one of the family.
They have treated dad with respect and dignity continually striving to help with the management of his pain. Their patience is endless and they cared for him in a cheerful manner always trying to take advantage of his sense of humour even when times were hard.
Towards the end, I could not have wanted him to be in a better place. They were always happy to communicate with me and have supported me through my bereavement.

I could not have managed to get through the last month without the support of all the staff at Carleton Lodge. They are all wonderful!

Our mother was a resident for approximately four months. During that time we were extremely happy with the excellent care she received, it certainly made our life so very much easier. We were able to see her as much as we liked, and spend time that we came to appreciate as quality time with her. The entire staff could not have been more helpful, understanding and efficient. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this care home to anyone interested.

Hugely impressed by the management of and care provided by this care home. Always clean and staff and residents all seem so happy. Have been to other care homes where the residents sit in front of a tv screen all day, having no idea what's on. This home always has activities for the residents: entertainers, singing, bingo, stories, themed days, etc etc. Not sure they even have a tv!

You can visit your relative at any time - they don't need notice - which tells me they are a home with nothing to hide. They also have open days for residents and regular meetings when relatives of residents are invited to come along and hear what's planned for the future. Care plans are always up to date, and the manager knows the residents' health issues without even needing to resort to the paperwork when she's talking to you. That's someone who is on top of their job and knows the people she is looking after. If I ever have to go into a home, I hope someone finds me a place as good as this.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming. They show care and compassion to the residents and engage them in activities as well as having many visits from diverse occupants and skills eg. singing, schoolchildren visits and interact with residents playing games etc, crafts. There is NO unpleasant smell at all; only nice ones of baking cakes etc and tasty dinners. Food is freshly cooked on the premises. Always a bonus!

I cannot praise the staff enough for the care and kindness that has been shown to my mother. The food always looks good and wholesome, and they take the time to feed her when necessary. Mum's mobility is nil now and they check on her every 15 mins when she's in her room. Wonderful staff and care.

I am very pleased with the care that my mum is receiving at the home. Mum's general health has improved since moving in 2 months ago. She has gained weight and her mood has improved. The staff are very caring and attentive and pick up quickly if things are not OK. Every person is treated as an individual and not just given blanket care. There are activities every day (even on weekends) and weekly trips out. They recently have been to the ballet, the carnival, Walmer Castle even the pub. A couple of weeks ago, they had a summer BBQ in the garden. The staff are all very approachable and listen to any concerns. I would say my mum is thriving since moving in and I feel confident that she is getting very good care and attention. The home is currently being decorated throughout which helps with the feeling of being homely. Throughout the summer I have sat in the garden with mum overlooking Walmer Beach. Couldn't ask for a better view. Overall I would recommend this home to anyone thinking of placing a resident here knowing they would be well cared and looked after in pleasant surroundings.

My mother has been a resident at Carleton Mead for over five years and the difference it has made to our lives has been enormous. The staff are patient, conscientious and work well together as a team. The management team always look for ways to enhance the quality of life of the residents and make maximum use of the available facilities. My mother is safe and happy. Despite her illness, she has a good quality of life and that is down to the team at Carleton Mead.
