Located in the picturesque seaside town of Deal in Kent, St Winifreds is a residential and general nursing care home providing specialist care for older people, including those with a diagnosis of dementia. With 52 rooms, the Home is set in a Grade II listed building with purpose-built extensions and outstanding amenities. The team cares for residents with dignity, empathy and understanding, and are fully trained to a high level in Advanced Dementia Care.

The Home also has a full-time Physiotherapist to support residents with rehabilitation, including bespoke packages for day care or short-term placements. Physiotherapy services also help with improving peoples’ strength, avoiding or reducing falls, contractures, and improved overall well-being.

35 bedrooms have ensuite facilities and the Home has three large lounges with easy chairs, large-screen TVs and a separate dining area. There is also a well-equipped activity provision and residents can enjoy the secure, peaceful gardens and outdoor seating.

Socialising forms an important part of daily life St Winifreds and team members ensure that there is something on offer for everyone, including group sing-a-longs, visits from musicians and entertainers and trips out to local beach. Residents are encouraged to remain active and pursue hobbies and interests, both old and new.

One of the first care providers to champion the importance of nutrition for the elderly and those with Dementia, Nellsar employ a Head of Nutrition and Wellness for their Homes. St Winifreds acknowledges that nutrition and hydration are an integral part of good health and well-being, delivering well-balanced, nutritious meals and snacks to residents every day.

Employing the Care Vision® digital care management system throughout the Home ensures that the entire care service delivery, recording and reporting systems are optimised and centred around residents and their personalised care.

My husband was a resident for almost seven years, and was always looked after very well, with great respect to which means a lot. In the final days the staff were amazing and the last days and leading to the final hour they were all exceptional. Those carers really care. Every word spoken to me was
gentle and carefully chosen. I was dreading his death, how he would go, but it was a beautiful experience, and he slowly drifted away. The whole thing was so dignified and I was never left alone, the carers were there. Be proud of management and staff of St Winifreds.

Tracy joined Nellsar in February 2022, bringing with her over 30 years of experience in the social care sector.


Having worked in various roles in residential Care Homes from age 16, Tracy’s career changed direction when she decided to become a Trainer and achieved a degree in Education. Tracy then worked as a Lecturer in Health and Social Care and Early Years, helping people begin or progress their nursing or care careers. Passionate about making a difference, Tracy enjoys helping her teams develop their skills; She works to ensure comforting environments and a superior person-centred care provision for all our residents.

Wendy

Wendy Wood

Job Title: Head of Residential Care Joined: 1985

Wendy has worked at St Winifred's Care Centre since 1985; she was a part of the team when Nellsar bought the Care Home in 1999; "I started my journey as a Carer and soon worked my way up to a Senior Carer. I then became head of our St Andrews Unit and am now Head of Residential which I am very proud of."


Wendy has gained a lot of qualifications since working for Nellsar; "I have completed my NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care. I have also completed a lot of training for Dementia and End-of-life Care, to name a few, which has been vital to improving my knowledge and understanding of our residents' needs."


Taking great pride in her role, Wendy ensures our residents are provided with the highest level of care – "We really are a family unit." And she cites her biggest accomplishment as coming runner-up in the Kent Care Awards where her contribution to care was acknowledged.

Janey takes a lot of pride in ensuring the Home is kept clean and looks respectable at all times; "Myself and my team work hard to ensure the Home is kept clean to the highest standard."


St. Winifreds is currently undergoing a full makeover which Janey is very excited to see and to be a part of.

Tina loves her job and she is passionate about bringing person-centred, meaningful activities to all of our wonderful residents; "Recreation is not just fun and games – although it is an amazing part of it. I love making our residents smile, but it is also about ensuring our residents feel secure, heard and comfortable in their own homes. It is important to remember who they are and to cherish this."


Having previously worked at a day centre, Tina has been part of the team at St. Winifred's Care Centre since 2020; "I love working for Nellsar and their values resonate with me. I have an NVQ Level 2 along with various other certificates. I have a passion to enhance our residents’ lives. I have worked as Recreation and Well-Being Lead since 2021."

Maxine Nesbitt

Maxine is a versatile team member having worked in most departments; she has a good understanding of the Home and why each role is so important; "I’ve only worked at St Winifred's Care Centre since 2022 but feel like I’ve really settled into the Nellsar family and feel supported by my team.
