The last 3 years of my mums life were very challenging for her. Coping with parkinsons, dementia and for the last year, bed/chair bound was a difficult time. However the staff at Silverpoint showed great care and compassion, something that I will be eternally grateful for.

Review of Abbotsleigh Care Centre from Veronica B (Daughter of Resident) published on 23 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
On the 5th of June we sadly lost our mum, who had been a resident in Abbotsleigh for two years. We chose this care home because our dad was also a resident until he passed away and, we were so happy with his care that mum always said that she wanted to go there when she could no longer take care of herself.
We cannot praise them enough. She was treated with dignity and her every need was catered for. They were thoughtful, gentle, loving and so kind. She was truly happy there which was such a relief for us.
We could visit her at any time and we were always welcome. We were invited to all the events they planned and mum was always occupied which meant that she was never bored. She was never anxious or worried about anything which meant she was content and happy in her surroundings. Which gave us peace of mind.
When she passed away she was pain free and loved by those around her.

We will be forever grateful to all the staff for their love for our mum.

Reply from Silvia Barret, Operations & Compliance Manager at Abbotsleigh Care Centre

I want to highlight the work of the physiotherapy team at Hengist Field. When she arrived at Hengist, my mother had been in hospital for two months with a septic knee, and couldn't walk. Over the next couple of months the physiotherapy team worked tirelessly, to restore her mobility and she is now able to walk with the aid of a frame. Without the efforts of the physiotherapy team, I suspect my mother would now be bedridden.

Sonya Lodge as become a home for my dad who arrived there last May. The atmosphere within is genuine home from home feeling full of compassion dedication. The approach from all staff members show a dignified care in some very difficult situations. They support the needs of the residents and their families. They encourage a drop by and see love ones any time approach and they are genuinely happy to welcome you with warm smile and great politeness. The kindness and dedication the staff have is shown with their approach towards the residents when helping them with daily tasks. They help to maintain their dignity and independence with reassurance to make the residents feel special and safe. The care home provides a variety of activities to help stimulate and entertain the residents from singers to 1940 celebration. Regular pet therapy with ponies and dogs. The facilities are clean and well maintain. They have a lovely garden to sit relax in and a forget me not tea room for residents and families to use.

Mum transferred to St Winifred's from another care home yesterday. She has been made to feel very welcome and nothing has been too much trouble to make us all feel welcome. I have visited today and she seems very settled and has eaten more lunch today than I've seen her eat in a long time. I feel very reassured she is going to be very happy here.

My husband has settled well, and when I visit him he is always dressed appropriately for the whatever season it is, I have noticed a clear improvement, of his social skills and his temperament, when he does get confused, the staff are clear and patient to help assist his needs and reassures him, whenever I have a concern the Nurse's, are able to clarify anything I am unsure about, nothing is too much trouble.

I feel happy knowing my loved one us safe, and well looked after.

My brother and I are so pleased that Dad is settled at St Winifred's, we feel very lucky to have found such a warm, caring home for him to stay. Dad has been at St Winifred's for over 18 months and throughout that time we have been so impressed with the care he has received. Tracy and Nisha create a really happy team environment, and are really great at keeping in touch with us about Dad and very responsive to any requests. The nurses and carers are so friendly and professional, it is very heart-warming to know Dad is being looked after by such kind people. We recently stayed to have lunch with Dad, he really enjoys sharing a meal with us, and everyone was lovely, and Pippa and Chef James looked after us so well and provided a delicious meal.
