Hengist Field is such a friendly, welcoming care home. The facilities are lovely and the entertainment is fantastic. My mum feels very happy here and has made good relationships with fellow residents and staff. The carers are very friendly and really help Mum to settle if she's feeling at all anxious. She has her hair done every week and uses the wellbeing team to have massages and her nails painted. She loves the food here and she has such a varied, interesting and balanced diet. Mum loves all the music activities, Namaste and meditation with Nina.

I want to highlight the work of the physiotherapy team at Hengist Field. When she arrived at Hengist, my mother had been in hospital for two months with a septic knee, and couldn't walk. Over the next couple of months the physiotherapy team worked tirelessly, to restore her mobility and she is now able to walk with the aid of a frame. Without the efforts of the physiotherapy team, I suspect my mother would now be bedridden.

My mother resided at Hengistfield for over three years. During this time, the care she received was outstanding. The excellent and friendly staff always treated her with kindness, respect and dignity. Nothing was too much for them in order to meet her needs.
The gardens and social areas are welcoming. There are activities and social events for those wishing to mingle. As a family we always felt welcome and any worries or questions we had were dealt with in a timely, professional manner.

We can't thank the Hengistfield staff enough for taking such great care of our precious and much loved mum.

Our mother spent 3 weeks in respite at Hengist Field. When she arrived her mobility was very poor due to a fractured hip she sustained in March. She was keen to participate in physio and immediately began sessions with Tony.
On arrival, she was greeted and welcomed by the entire team including Tony.
Within a few days, her mobility and walking distance improved remarkably -truly mind blowing progress.
Every single member of staff we met were friendly , easy going and lovely. It was clear she was treated as a human being who could make her own decisions.
Our mother felt as though she had been on holiday for 3 weeks, happy , cared for and well looked after.
A big thankyou to the management team for their input and support during her stay.

If your'e considering Hengist field we would highly recommend them . The warmth of the staff, the proactive rehabilitation, and the respectful treatment of residents make it stand out

I love Hengist, I almost live here, I come to see my sister every other day and stay until her supper. The care and pride the staff take is amazing, and the safety of the residents is ensured. How they put themselves out to help with so many events. I would never ever want my sister to be at any other home. When she arrived at Hengist after being in hospital for six months, they didn't think she would live, but she has fought back and today she is amazing. Thank you Hengist.

Mum has settled brilliantly at Hengist. This is due to the carers being very friendly. The entertainment has really helped Mum to continue to have an excellent quality of life. There is such a range of activities that she enjoys. The food is always delicious, and Mum benefits from having a varied and balanced diet. The reception staff and the managers are always super friendly and helpful to us as a family. My dad and I love coming to have lunch with Mum. I don't think we could find a better home. My mother wanted me to have a treat on my birthday so she told the staff when it was and requested a cake be made and the table on which we had a Sunday lunch be decorated. There were banners and balloons with happy birthday on and 4 staff members brought in a cake singing happy birthday to me.

The lemon based sponge/cream cake was truly scrumptious and the whole surprise event was special as so unexpected. Pictures were also taken. My mother was very pleased and thankful for all the effort staff had made on my behalf.

My mother-in-law was a resident here for 6 months, she sadly passed away in February this year. I can honestly say her care was outstanding the support workers were very caring towards my mother-in-law, the activity coordinators were very enthusiastic, and the kitchen staff always made sure residents were happy with their meals and often changed them to suit individuals. The housekeepers were very pleasant always having a chat with my mother-in-law when putting her clean clothes away. The ladies at reception were always willing to help with a smile, the hairdresser always engaged with the residents. The nurses were professional and one of them always kept us up to date with any concerns we had the managers were very easy to talk to and were involved with residents. I loved that they knew all their names such a personal touch and the volunteers gave up their own time to sit and chat with residents. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone, a credit to you all.

This is a lovely care home, and the day staff are excellent. They go above and beyond and the home is full of laughter. The activity staff are excellent too, and the activities are varied and plentiful. Mum is a fussy eater, which is a challenge, she does not always like the menu, but the kitchen staff will offer alternatives. Sometimes it takes, what feels like, a long time to answer the busser for toilet trips. This can cause Mum distress and frustration. The communal rooms have been decorated to a high standard, and it is lovely taking Mum out of her room. Excellent gardens!

Neli KolevaJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2018

"Hello, I’m the Manager of Hengist Field Care Home in Sittingbourne. I joined the Nellsar family as Manager here at the Home in November 2018, bringing with me 34 years' Nursing experience from working in a variety of UK and overseas care settings. Our wonderful team here provide high-quality care while ensuring that our residents enjoy all aspects of life within our Home.

Hengist Field Care Home was opened in 2011 and the design fits in beautifully with the surrounding Kent countryside of Oast Houses and orchards. We have first-class facilities here for our residents to enjoy and are developing many new and exciting ideas and initiatives to enhance daily life within the Home. Our gardens and the surrounding area are stunning and these include a spectacular courtyard, sensory garden and an area where residents enjoy growing soft fruits in the summer.

On warm sunny days lunch is often served in the gardens and families are welcome to relax with loved ones and enjoy quality time together. We pride ourselves in promoting a caring, family-orientated atmosphere, where we extend our support to friends and families of our residents.

We have a Friends of Hengist Support Group to support relatives who find it helpful to share their experiences with others in similar circumstances and the desire to learn more about the illness or condition that affects their relative. We also hold Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friends Information Sessions. These are very informal and are designed to give people a greater awareness and understanding of how Dementia may change their loved ones.

We like to make each day meaningful for residents of our Home. Our Activities team are always planning something different. Every week we have a range of organised activities, which may include; exercise classes, musical mornings, coffee mornings, food tasting, arts and crafts or musical therapy.

Our Well-Being Team are on hand to deliver one to one relaxing sessions which may be in the form of a massage, or aromatherapy which has wonderful benefits to the holistic health of residents. Our Cinema room plays a film of the day which runs twice a day every day – so our residents can enjoy the nostalgia of popcorn and an old movie. In the summer, we have BBQs every month, with live music – an opportunity for residents, relatives, friends and staff to get together and enjoy each other’s company.

A daily Lunch Club also allows residents living in different units within the Home to meet up, enjoy a meal and spend some time together in one of our tastefully decorated dining rooms. We extend a warm welcome to everyone who wishes to join us when we participate in charity events including Alzheimer’s Society Cup Cake Days and The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning organised by Macmillan Cancer Support.

We host relatives and residents meetings at which discussions are held about how families can become more involved and how we, as a Care Home, can continue to improve upon all aspects of our care and services provided at the Home. We implement any suggested new activities, or ideas, or menu suggestions, and then we meet again to discuss how well these were received."
