Situated in the heart of the Garden of England, Abbotsleigh represents more than the typical nursing home concept. In line with Nellsar’s family, care and support concept the team will provide your loved one with dignity, respect, care and compassion.

The home tailors its approach to the needs of the resident and applies the fundamentals of nursing care whether the changes are due to ill health, dementia and/or old age.

Independence is promoted at all times and a home-like environment that is friendly and approachable is offered. Staff work with residents and families to uphold their preferences and customs as much as possible. They are able to deliver this by maintaining a continuously growing team – investing in their personal and professional development, while generating different communication channels and having a transparent and open attitude.

Abbotsleigh has a capacity of up to 55 residents which comprises single room accommodation. The majority of rooms have en-suite facilities. The home has three lounges and two dining rooms, a health & well-being sensory room and great surroundings. The gardens are accessible from various parts of the building, therefore providing a safe environment and a calm atmosphere.

The objective is to offer a home-from-home environment where a resident can live and feel supported by caring professionals. Staff teams come to work and share, support and take part, guide and nurse the residents from admission to end of life.

Staff are fully supported by a local hospice, dieticians, and a third-party chiropodist, optician and hairdresser.

Residents’ family members’ interaction and collaboration with staff to provide the best possible care for their loved ones is crucial in helping achieve the highest standards of care. You can be reassured that loved ones will be safe and properly cared for at Abbostleigh.

The Review Score of 8.6 (maximum of 10) for Abbotsleigh Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Abbotsleigh Care Centre in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.531 for Abbotsleigh Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (57 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.531

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.078 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbotsleigh Care Centre is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 12.2 positive Reviews (61 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 12.2 Target = 0.328

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My dad has been a resident at Abbotsleigh for just over a year and in that time I have seen a lot of changes and they have all been good. The home gives a friendly and homely feel.

The care my dad has received has been beyond all my expectations. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. They go out of their way to make the residents feel at home and treat them as individuals.

I have always found the staff very approachable and friendly, and when I leave my dad I know he is being cared for by a brilliant team. If you are looking for a care home then I can fully recommend this one.

When first arrived was placed upstairs, he was kept in bed.
Was told it was his choice.
I expressed my concerns about spending too much time in bed and asked for him to be got up every day and sat in a chair with other residents, which was taken on board.
After about a month he was moved downstairs.
He is up every day and sat in the lounge with everyone.
Care is excellent.
Spent time observing staff - they are very caring and do a brilliant job.
Dad always looks clean, clothes are always clean and ironed.
Overall as a family, we are happy to see dad being looked after so well.
Thanks to everyone at the home!

My mother was resident at the care centre for four years and always received excellent care. My sisters and I were always kept fully informed of any health issues, and the staff were always friendly and helpful.
On the day of my mother's death, we were treated with sympathy, respect and helpfulness by all staff members and given adequate time to be alone with our mother we were then offered advice concerning legal and other necessary procedures to be adopted.

My mother has just spent six months on the residential side of the home - sadly passing away there a couple of days ago. I could not have been more pleased with our choice of home - the care that she received was first-class in a genuinely caring, family type environment, where she and all the other residents were treated with the utmost compassion and dignity.

I visited my Mum on a daily basis and could see at first hand that nothing was too much trouble for the staff and that included everyone - from residential and nursing staff to cleaning, laundry, catering and admin. I see this as a huge credit to the way the home is managed by the respective team leaders in residential and nursing and of course managed overall by the very professional registered manager. The staff are exceptionally well trained and genuinely enjoy working with the elderly and this is reflected in the warm, happy ambience that you immediately feel in the home.

My mother has been at Abbotsleigh since early in the year 2015, I believe she has been treated in a dignified manner considering her dementia and is looked after very well. There are various activities which all residents can participate in (if possible of course) and consideration in given to other residents who do not wish to take part! The medical side of proceedings seems to be very satisfactory overall I/we are pleased with the on going situation.

My mother has been a resident at Abbotsleigh for about seven years and is now in 'end of life' care. I have been a regular visitor to the nursing home during all this period. The facilities and staff are quite outstanding in every respect. The staff are kind, caring, helpful and considerate. My mother has had excellent care throughout the period she has been a resident. I cannot express enough thanks to all concerned.
