My mum was only at Abbotsleigh for a short time, but she was so well cared for. She died with dignity. The staff were so lovely to me and my family as well as my mum. My mum was washed and had clean clothes every day, the room was clean and always smelt nice.
Reply from Glenda Osmotherly, Director of Operations at Abbotsleigh Care CentreThank you for this very important review. The manager and the whole staff team have specialized in providing the very best palliative care (GSF) which reflects the individual wishes and needs of your loved one and also supports families through a desperately sad time. From your feedback, the staff gave the best of themselves in ensuring the care and support given met all of your needs, and the experience was supported throughout with care and understanding. They will be proud to have this recognition. Thank you.

My nan lived here for four years and had been moved around from multiple care homes before. The care she had was brilliant, with many activities to keep her entertained, and the staff were all very helpful and kind. I’m glad my nan finally got the care she deserved in the last stages of her life.

Our mother was at Abbotsleigh Care Centre for several months. During this time, we found the standard of care to be exceptional. The nurses were so caring, always ensuring she was comfortable and pain-free. Regularly checking on her, ensuring a high level of hygiene.
The care home is spotless and
we thoroughly recommend the attentive staff.

Dad was at Abbotsleigh Care Centre for just over two years whilst suffering from both Parkinson's disease and dementia. He was always treated with such respect and care throughout his time with them, always positive, always encouraging and really welcoming us (as relatives) to their extended family.
We cannot thank them highly enough for the end-of-life care they gave to Dad and the support they gave to us was exceptional during this sad time.
We would highly recommend this care home.
Reply from Alina Abagiu, Registered Manager at Abbotsleigh Care CentreOn behalf of everyone here at Abbotsleigh Care Centre, I would like to thank you for the wonderful feedback, Helen. Your comments will be fed back to the staff to show them that their efforts are appreciated and recognised. We will be missing you all. Thank you again for your review.

Since my relative came to Abbotsleigh Care Centre almost six years ago, she has been consistently treated with care, good humour and dignity, She could be difficult to manage, even aggressive occasionally but the staff were patient. Staff worked hard to engage her and while she had capacity, she responded
well to their efforts, she enjoyed their company and remained communicative and sociable for much longer than we imagined, thanks to them.

Abbotsleigh specialises in dementia care, so it would not be the right home for everybody but for my sister, with her Alzheimer's diagnosis, it was the ideal choice. The home made regular efforts week by week to keep themes and topics that patients could relate to where they were visible and the kitchen
cooperated in this. Nursing care was skilled and professional and the management was consultative but firm and clear standards were set and maintained.
Reply from Alina Abagiu, Registered Manager at Abbotsleigh Care CentreThank you for your kind words. I will pass on your feedback to the team and please feel free to contact me if you believe that there are any improvements needed to our service.

Sadly, my mother was only in your care for a short period of time before passing. The care, attention and professionalism given to my mother and I were excellent. Your line of communication was brilliant and also in helping me to prepare for the worst. Abbotsleigh Care Centre and the staff offer a real
family atmosphere which I hope will continue for years to come. A very big thank you to one and all.

Having researched and visited many care homes, Abbotsleigh Care Centre outshines them all by far. For the few days, my relative was in their care, she was treated with utmost kindness and dignity. I cannot fault the staff in any way. They came across as one big family and we were kept informed of our
relative's condition at every point. Nothing was too much trouble and I would like to thank each and every one of them for their undivided devotion and for all they did for our relative and us.

Abbotsleigh Care Centre is the best. The staff, management and all that work there are very caring and supportive. The room my Dad is in is very homely and he is very happy. The home we chose for mum was based not only on the quality of the building, furnishings and care planning, but we needed to ‘feel’ that she would be in a loving environment. Abbotsleigh Care Centre hit the mark on all counts, faultless every visit and went beyond care homes I have been involved with.
I cannot recommend this home enough, because the staff go the extra mile to ensure the residents are surrounded by love, given the attention needed medically and family kept up to date with any changes. Thank you for looking after my mum with the respect and dignity she would have wanted, I will always be in your debt for that.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.885)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.885) out of 10 for Abbotsleigh Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.910 for Abbotsleigh Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (202 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 221 Ratings = 4.91
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbotsleigh Care Centre is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
