I regularly visit Abbotsleigh and have been so impressed, particularly with the kindness and friendliness of the staff. Each one smiles and says 'hello' on passing - I would recommend anyone who needs this type of care to this home.

I have been extremely impressed with the care and support given to my mum by all staff at Abbotsleigh.
Everyone is so friendly and helpful and genuinely care about looking after mum. The management and nurses are always available and happy to help with any queries. I would have no hesitation in recommending
the care at Abbotsleigh.

Many heartfelt thanks for the excellent care given to my husband, who had complex health problems and dementia. All the staff from managers, nurses, carers and activity coordinators to reception, and domestic staff were excellent and cared for my husband in such a professional and kind manner. We were
supported at all times through distressing moments and shown such compassion. Any changes in my husbands condition were addressed and his needs met. Sadly he passed away after four months at Abbotsleigh but it came to feel like home there, and much respect was shown at the time of his death. We would highly recommend Abbotsleigh as a wonderful care home.

I cannot extend a big enough thank you to Abbottsleigh Care Centre for all the work they put in for Christmas Day yesterday for us families. The staff there are second to none; kind, caring, giving up their Christmas days to selflessly ensure we had enough drinks and food and that the residents had
companionship and were comfortable. Dad, bless him, could not eat any of the food but he had a liquified version which he had a little of. The staff even did individual present bags and a Christmas card for each resident. We are very fortunate that Dad is there and they help make things easier. Thank you so much Abbottsleigh.

Due to the overall management and care - both my parents are relative newcomers to Abbotsleigh Care Centre but both have settled in very well thanks to all the staff's kindness. On their 61st wedding anniversary, a lovely party was arranged and we all had a very pleasant tea party. So much thought had
gone into it, it was fabulous! Both my parents really enjoyed it hugely.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the team, for the fantastic firework evening. All the residents were included, given hotdogs etc. There was a lovely bonfire and the chance to have sparklers and toasted marshmallows. My mum, sister and daughter were welcomed and we all joined dad. He enjoyed
it, became a bit tired but that's just him. It was lovely to be part of such a fun night. Well done!

Mum has been living at Abbotsleigh Care Centre for three months now since dad could no longer cope with her dementia.
The rural location means easy access for visitors.
The manager is keen to listen and take action to improve the environment and wellbeing of residents.
Staff are polite, helpful
and courteous, smart and efficient. Activities are organised for residents on a daily basis.
We feel mum is being cared for at Abbotsleigh.

With regards to some of your ratings:

Activities: During the last year the Activities team has increased to support us offering a 7 days a week service and 2 staff on duty each day. The team is made up of 3 full-time members of staff who are extremely kind, innovative and passionate about their role. They have promoted social inclusion providing person-centred programmes to all who wish to participate. We have had many successful events through the year provided for residents and their families and relationships are being developed with the local community. Nationally recognized educational forums are being attended by the activity staff and the learning is being reflected in the dynamic development of the service.

Value for Money: The fee rates at Abbotsleigh are based on the services provided and the needs of the individual and a recent analysis of rates charged by care homes in the county have shown that we are midway across the fee ranges.

Since my mum was admitted to Abbotsleigh in September on a pathway initially, we have been so impressed with the communication, care and consideration with mums care. The people we have had contact with across the whole team has been great and they demonstrate such care and compassion that we did not
hesitate to choose Abbotsleigh as a preferred residence for mum. The home manager and her deputy are simply wonderful.

My father-in-law has been in this care home for the last 2 years. In the last year, the management has changed and so has the home. It has become a much happier place. There is consistency with the staff as before the change I was always seeing new faces as there was an awful lot of agency staff used
but now no agency staff. This is far better as the staff have got to know my father in law well and what his needs are, which is far better for him. The home has taken on a more homely appearance as it has been updated. I have found all the staff including the management team very approachable and always treat my father with respect and kindness. If you are looking for a care home for a loved one then I don't think you could find one better than this one.

I am really happy with the care my Grandad receives. The staff are phenomenal and always check on my Grandad as he is now bed bound. My grandad doesn't talk to anyone and Abbotsleigh Care Centre think of ways to interact with him in hope to try to get him talking and remembering his family and friends.
Whenever I go to visit my Grandad, the staff are very welcoming and always have a smile on their face. It makes me happy to know that my Grandad is being looked after properly. I really cannot fault the care they give him and would highly recommend this care home!

I found Abbotsleigh to have a warm and inviting feel from the minute you enter the building, staff are kind, caring and friendly always greeting visitors with a friendly smile and acknowledgement. My mother was transferred from hospital in February, but was only at Abbotsleigh for a short time as she
was on the End of Life path, so for me one of the most important things was the cosy ‘home from home’ feel of the bedrooms (not hospitalised or clinical) as all.

I cannot speak highly enough about the professionalism of the manager and her team, I felt confident my mother was comfortable and receiving the best care in the best possible place.

The manager came across as being extremely sensitive, taking time to explain to me step by step what would happen in Mum's final days and when I wasn’t at the home with Mum, I got regular phone calls throughout both day and night as to her condition and what stage she was at (which was a massive help).

Thank you.

I wrote a review recently in February following Abbotsleigh hosting a 100th Birthday party for my mother. Sadly she passed a couple of weeks later. I want to write to let everyone know that the care and attention given at Abbotsleigh didn’t stop when my mother died. The staff there showed such compassion
and thoughtfulness to our family. Mum had someone stay with her at the end. I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers. A member of staff attended the funeral and Nellsar Head Office even issued a refund of fees without being asked. The management and staff are all so caring and I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about recommending this care home.

My dad has been at Abbotsleigh for 3 weeks now, so it's still early days. That being said I have already seen improvements in his mental well-being. Dad's verbal communication has diminished, over the last 12 months, along with his ability to feed himself. Since moving to Abbotsleigh he is calmer and
much more interactive verbally,he also feeds himself a lot of the time. He is smiling a lot now. Dad is a "walker" so the bright and open environment is perfect for him. The staff are always on hand and while going about their duties will say "hello" and check that dad ,and other residents, are ok.
Dad can be difficult at times due to his advanced dementia and the manager has stayed in touch with dad's previous Care home manager, taking on board and implementing suggested ways to assist him to avoid frustration and conflict. I find this a positive and encouraging approach.
Overall I am confident of dad's safety and well-being in his new home.

My mother entered Abbotsleigh for Nursing Care following two strokes. She was resident for just under three years and during this time was always clean and well looked after. The staff were always polite and the food was excellent. Her room (10) was kept in an immaculate condition and her bedding changed
as and when required. The home provided various activities and a coordinator to stimulate the residents. As my mother was seat bound she developed various sores which at times required Doctor and Nurse treatment, this was laid on by the home without fail, and I am grateful this occurred. Occasionally my mother had an infection that required Doctor attendance and this also occurred without fail, and there is a good local Doctor in Staplehurst nearby. My mother received end of life care at the home and this was conducted with dignity and they helped me when I visited in the days leading to the end.

I am grateful to all the staff and Managers of Abbotsleigh for their tremendous help.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.885)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.885) out of 10 for Abbotsleigh Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.910 for Abbotsleigh Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (202 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 221 Ratings = 4.91
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbotsleigh Care Centre is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
