Due to the overall management and care - both my parents are relative newcomers to Abbotsleigh Care Centre but both have settled in very well thanks to all the staff's kindness. On their 61st wedding anniversary, a lovely party was arranged and we all had a very pleasant tea party. So much thought had
gone into it, it was fabulous! Both my parents really enjoyed it hugely.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the team, for the fantastic firework evening. All the residents were included, given hotdogs etc. There was a lovely bonfire and the chance to have sparklers and toasted marshmallows. My mum, sister and daughter were welcomed and we all joined dad. He enjoyed
it, became a bit tired but that's just him. It was lovely to be part of such a fun night. Well done!

Mum has been living at Abbotsleigh Care Centre for three months now since dad could no longer cope with her dementia.
The rural location means easy access for visitors.
The manager is keen to listen and take action to improve the environment and wellbeing of residents.
Staff are polite, helpful
and courteous, smart and efficient. Activities are organised for residents on a daily basis.
We feel mum is being cared for at Abbotsleigh.

Activities: During the last year the Activities team has increased to support us offering a 7 days a week service and 2 staff on duty each day. The team is made up of 3 full-time members of staff who are extremely kind, innovative and passionate about their role. They have promoted social inclusion providing person-centred programmes to all who wish to participate. We have had many successful events through the year provided for residents and their families and relationships are being developed with the local community. Nationally recognized educational forums are being attended by the activity staff and the learning is being reflected in the dynamic development of the service.


Value for Money: The fee rates at Abbotsleigh are based on the services provided and the needs of the individual and a recent analysis of rates charged by care homes in the county have shown that we are midway across the fee ranges.

Since my mum was admitted to Abbotsleigh in September on a pathway initially, we have been so impressed with the communication, care and consideration with mums care. The people we have had contact with across the whole team has been great and they demonstrate such care and compassion that we did not
hesitate to choose Abbotsleigh as a preferred residence for mum. The home manager and her deputy are simply wonderful.

My father-in-law has been in this care home for the last 2 years. In the last year, the management has changed and so has the home. It has become a much happier place. There is consistency with the staff as before the change I was always seeing new faces as there was an awful lot of agency staff used
but now no agency staff. This is far better as the staff have got to know my father in law well and what his needs are, which is far better for him. The home has taken on a more homely appearance as it has been updated. I have found all the staff including the management team very approachable and always treat my father with respect and kindness. If you are looking for a care home for a loved one then I don't think you could find one better than this one.

I am really happy with the care my Grandad receives. The staff are phenomenal and always check on my Grandad as he is now bed bound. My grandad doesn't talk to anyone and Abbotsleigh Care Centre think of ways to interact with him in hope to try to get him talking and remembering his family and friends.
Whenever I go to visit my Grandad, the staff are very welcoming and always have a smile on their face. It makes me happy to know that my Grandad is being looked after properly. I really cannot fault the care they give him and would highly recommend this care home!

When my mother went to hospital for a broken hip, they sent her to another home.
That home was not very good so I can compare one home against another. Abbotsleigh is a very good place for my mother to be.

The Manager and the team are very attentive to residents, kind, smiling faces that greet you. The home is very clean and inviting. Whilst visiting my mother at dinner time I was asked if I would like to eat with my mother. 10/10 in all areas.

I found Abbotsleigh to have a warm and inviting feel from the minute you enter the building, staff are kind, caring and friendly always greeting visitors with a friendly smile and acknowledgement. My mother was transferred from hospital in February, but was only at Abbotsleigh for a short time as she
was on the End of Life path, so for me one of the most important things was the cosy ‘home from home’ feel of the bedrooms (not hospitalised or clinical) as all.


I cannot speak highly enough about the professionalism of the manager and her team, I felt confident my mother was comfortable and receiving the best care in the best possible place.


The manager came across as being extremely sensitive, taking time to explain to me step by step what would happen in Mum's final days and when I wasn’t at the home with Mum, I got regular phone calls throughout both day and night as to her condition and what stage she was at (which was a massive help).

I wrote a review recently in February following Abbotsleigh hosting a 100th Birthday party for my mother. Sadly she passed a couple of weeks later. I want to write to let everyone know that the care and attention given at Abbotsleigh didn’t stop when my mother died. The staff there showed such compassion
and thoughtfulness to our family. Mum had someone stay with her at the end. I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers. A member of staff attended the funeral and Nellsar Head Office even issued a refund of fees without being asked. The management and staff are all so caring and I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about recommending this care home.

My dad has been at Abbotsleigh for 3 weeks now, so it's still early days. That being said I have already seen improvements in his mental well-being. Dad's verbal communication has diminished, over the last 12 months, along with his ability to feed himself. Since moving to Abbotsleigh he is calmer and
much more interactive verbally,he also feeds himself a lot of the time. He is smiling a lot now. Dad is a "walker" so the bright and open environment is perfect for him. The staff are always on hand and while going about their duties will say "hello" and check that dad ,and other residents, are ok.
Dad can be difficult at times due to his advanced dementia and the manager has stayed in touch with dad's previous Care home manager, taking on board and implementing suggested ways to assist him to avoid frustration and conflict. I find this a positive and encouraging approach.
Overall I am confident of dad's safety and well-being in his new home.

My mother entered Abbotsleigh for Nursing Care following two strokes. She was resident for just under three years and during this time was always clean and well looked after. The staff were always polite and the food was excellent. Her room (10) was kept in an immaculate condition and her bedding changed
as and when required. The home provided various activities and a coordinator to stimulate the residents. As my mother was seat bound she developed various sores which at times required Doctor and Nurse treatment, this was laid on by the home without fail, and I am grateful this occurred. Occasionally my mother had an infection that required Doctor attendance and this also occurred without fail, and there is a good local Doctor in Staplehurst nearby. My mother received end of life care at the home and this was conducted with dignity and they helped me when I visited in the days leading to the end.


I am grateful to all the staff and Managers of Abbotsleigh for their tremendous help.

The staff here are fabulous.
From the moment you arrive and are offered home made cake and a cup of tea the staff can not do enough to make you feel comfortable.
Having seen the activities team with the residents spending time and attention with them was a pleasure to see.
The new manager has a
light and energy that has motivated the staff and changed the atmosphere to a calm friendly family home.
The redecoration of the home with the new furniture and pictures is great to see.
The new chef sits and chats to the residents and makes sure that the food is to the client's liking.

From when Dad went in for respite and then permanent care, the care Dad received at Abbotsleigh was excellent. The staff were all so kind and caring to the residents. The home was very clean with the cleaning staff always making sure the home was spotless. The daily activities for the residents were
always varied and available to all, even though Dad didn’t get too involved with the activities, staff always spent one to one time with him which he preferred.
The food was cooked on the premises and was of a very high standard with staff always available to assist residents at meal times. As a family we could visit when we wanted sometimes arriving late after work and we were always made to feel welcome. We felt that Dad was very happy and safe at Abbotsleigh and had no concerns leaving him there as all the staff were friendly, caring and approachable. The home was a warm and caring environment where all Dad's needs were met where he was treated compassionately with dignity and respect.

My friend has been at Abbotsleigh since late October 2017, and although his family found the decision hard to start with, the care and friendliness of all the stall have put their minds to rest. All the stall are friendly, courteous, considerate and very patient, not only with the residents but also
with all the visitors. In fact, nothing is too much trouble. The home is always clean and smells fresh, and I would have no hesitation in recommending Abbotsleigh to others.

I have been visiting Abbotsleigh Care Home for 6 years and from last year onwards the transformations for the better have been incredible. It is a real joy to visit Abbotsleigh. The staff could not be more helpful and kind. The decortication and furnishings are amazing. The residents' interaction is
beyond recognition. They are awake and interactive. I have not had such level of interaction for years. It is a happy place and the residence are so well looked after. Wonderful really. The staff is working extremely hard but don’t show their stresses and try to please always. I love coming to Abbotsleigh, especially with this swishy new coffee machine and freshly baked cake expecting you on arrival. Thank you all at Abbotsleigh for making me feel so welcome. With my love and prayers.

My sister has been a resident for almost a year. She is contented, has gained weight and physically is very well. She loves to communicate by touch and smile with everyone and the staff respond to this with kindness. They always have time to stop, speak and hold her hand. She is stimulated with singing,
simple handcraft, usual reminisces and with people. Wellbeing in the form of gentle massage, manicure, pedicure and hairdressing gives her the attention she craves.

My husband has been at Abbotsleigh since October due to his vascular dementia and the care he has received has been excellent.
The staff are very friendly, considerate, approachable and very patient, also keeping the family informed of any health issues that may arise.

"Hello, my name is Alina Abagiu and I’m the Manager at Abbotsleigh Care Home in Kent, Staplehurst. We are a Dementia and Nursing Care Home in Kent, Staplehurst and we would like to invite you to pay us a visit. Our Care Home is a beautiful building, combining ‘old’ character with newly refurbished facilities. Abbotsleigh is set among lovely, landscaped surroundings – an altogether peaceful, and tranquil Care Home.


Our care team are passionate about supporting our residents with all levels of Dementia and Nursing needs through person-centred care and personalised care plans. We have 59 single rooms in our Care Home – the majority of which have en-suite facilities. Having recently undergone extensive refurbishments in recent years, they are spacious, bright and airy, with pleasant picturesque all-round views.


Abbotsleigh Care Home has two units – Red Admiral with 29 beds and the upper floor Holly Blue with 30 beds. We also have a Sensory and Stimulation Room that is used by the Health and Well-Being team alongside our fantastic Life Experience Coordinators. We encourage the families of our residents in our Home to personalise their rooms with familiar belongings to create a ‘home-from-home’ environment, enabling their independence.


The Home has two main dining areas and two main lounges. There is also an Atrium that can be facilitated to families and or visitors to have a more “private” time with their loved ones.


We actively encourage residents and their families to become involved in the decisions surrounding their care in our Home. This helps us meet their needs through individualised care plans which are continually adjusted as personal care needs change. The care teams in our Home are all experienced in managing the care needs of many health and social care issues and we liaise with a large network of other healthcare professionals. We welcome families and friends to visit us at any time and we encourage open communication."

I have joined Abbotsleigh Care Centre in November 2015 as a Registered Nurse and worked my way up to Unit Nurse Manager and since July 2021 as Deputy Manager.
