Loose Valley Care Centre, Maidstone, Kent

The Loose Valley Nursing Care Centre caters for residents with nursing and residential needs, in a beautiful former vicarage which has been converted into a registered care home. The home is set in three acres of landscaped grounds which feature two patio areas with wheelchair access around the perimeter.

The home has a chosen resident of the day review where families and key members of the team participate in their care review and update families on their well being and safety within the environment.

Enhanced mealtimes ensure residents have the choice of where they would like to have their meals, such as their own rooms, the dining area, lounge, conservatory areas, which gives them the opportunity to socalise with other residents if they wish to.

Residents are encouraged to maintain their individuality by bringing small pieces of furniture to personalise their rooms. The qualified catering team provides nutritional, home-cooked food to suit everyone's needs.

Visits from a physiotherapist, a chiropodist and an optician are provided for the residents' needs, as well as other visiting professionals. Residents can also benefit from aromatherapy, Reiki massage diversional therapy, seated exercise classes, religious services and hairdressing in the onsite hair salon.

April 2017 saw the hatching of the “Silkies” which is a special type of chicken characterised to be fluffy and friendly which residents, families and visitors have taken a great interest in – these will soon be chickens and roosters.

The activities coordinators, who are passionate about stimulation for residents, plan daily activities to meet their individual needs i.e Daily Sparkle (historical newspaper), music therapy, painting lessons, dominoes, pet therapy, garden sessions, pub quiz, high teas, birthdays and special events, celebrations and themed days, external outings and boat trips and a recently formed choir.

The Review Score of 9.5 (maximum of 10) for Loose Valley Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 10 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Loose Valley Care Centre in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.473 for Loose Valley Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (62 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 110 Ratings = 4.473

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Loose Valley Care Centre is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 7.8 positive Reviews (39 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 8 Reviews ÷ 7.8 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Though the building is looking a little tired and dated, this should not put off anyone considering it for their parent. The staff care for my mother with compassion, understanding and love. She thoroughly enjoyed her time there and considered everyone from the cleaner to the chef (for whom she had a soft spot!) her new friends. It eased our minds to know that she was so well looked after. Thank you, Loose Valley

My brother was a resident at Loose Valley Nursing Home for a few years and he received excellent care from all concerned and so did his family. I had no hesitation in recommending it to my friend's relations and she has been cared for with the same dedication for the past 4 years.

The staff are very dedicated, friendly and they certainly have the residents needs first and foremost. I have always had a good relationship with the management and I hope this will continue with the new management team. I try to visit once a week.

Staff all very friendly and helpful. Any queries all sorted almost immediately. Always say hello by name. Our first experience of a family member in a care facility, we have friends in homes and they are nowhere near as nice as Loose Valley. It's like a home, not an institution.

My sister has been at the Loose Valley Care Centre since Dec 2014. I have found the staff and management to be friendly, caring and capable. My sister has been able to go out when she chooses and has been provided with a small garden area of her own which she enjoys greatly. I have noticed many improvements to both the home and grounds. My sister has needed regular nursing care which was arranged. There are outings and activities. All in all, it is a very nice place to be.

On arrival of my fathers first day he was greeted warmly and made to feel very welcome as were his family. The staff took time to introduce themselves and explain the running of the home. During his time at the home he was encouraged to join in all the activities and events. My father was treated as an individual and his needs were met. In the last days of my fathers life he was shown kindness and dignity. They also showed care and understanding to his family at this sad time. I cannot praise them highly enough.

Dad has been very well cared for at Loose Valley. He was admitted as it was thought he was in the last weeks of life and nine months later he is still with us, all due to the excellent care he receives. Staff are lovely and very supportive to the family as well which is such a bonus when times are tough.

Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for care for their loved one. Nothing is too much trouble.
