My brother has been in Meadowcroft for two years. From the time he moved in he is still made to feel as if he is a very important person.
We visit him twice a week and are always told how he has been. When he has to have a doctor we are told the result the same day.
The staff are fantastic, nothing
is too much trouble.
I would recommend Meadowcroft to anyone. We visited many homes before Meadowcroft (because it was full). Some of them we only got to the front door and that was enough.

Mum was treated with exceptional kindness during her last few days, her day to day care was careful, considerate and generous. My sisters and I sat with her for many hours and everyone was supportive and kind. This was her home and she was settled and happy here and that was because of the staff.

Overall a fairly friendly home although it's very noticeable that there is a shortage of staff. Hopefully, the new manager communal sitting areas are sometimes lacking attention. Sitting areas are sometimes lacking attention. Management staff are always helpful and will do their best to solve a problem.
Reply from Michelle Daly, Home Manager at MeadowcroftThank you for taking the time to submit a review. I am pleased you find Meadowcroft a friendly home. Over the next couple of weeks, I plan with the residents' input, to improve the layout and atmosphere of the communal areas around the home. I hope you will also be reassured to hear that we are actively recruiting new team members, who are due to start as soon as the necessary checks are complete. Please do not hesitate to come and talk to me about any future concerns you may have - my door is always open.

Overall we are well pleased with Meadowcroft. The staff are friendly, welcoming and the home is well heated. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable with plenty of activities. However, access to the home at weekends can be likened to Fort Knox an exaggeration but very irritating and frustrating.
The head office handling of fees has been very poor in the last four months. Tying up of nursing allowance and locating guaranteed annuity
Reply from Michelle Daly, Home Manager at MeadowcroftThank you for taking the time to submit a comment. I am happy to hear that you are pleased with the care at our home. I understand your frustration when visiting the home at the weekend, but to ensure the safety of our residents we must provide a robust entry system, which unfortunately means that visitors may have to wait a while for access. We are however currently looking into the problem and as an interim solution will be displaying the home's mainline number in the lobby to call during weekend hours, which transfers direct to our Care Leaders' mobile phones. I would be happy to discuss this with you next time you are visiting the home.

Since suffering a severe stroke in August 2010 and being a patient in three different hospitals, over 7 months, my husband was admitted to Meadowcroft in March 2011. He is disabled/wheelchair bound and needs two carers at any one time. The care and encouragement he receives are superb. His speech and
thinking have come on in leaps and bounds. He is happy, full of fun, looks forward to activities - chair exercise, singing/minibus trips and Christmas was fantastic. The decorations were out of this world - all thanks to the teams of staff, who had such wonderful ideas. Thank you, Meadowcroft - you are my lifeline.

I visit the home with my husband and find it a very happy place to visit. The staff are extremely pleasant and always ready to help or answer questions. The residents are happy and well cared for and always clean. They have an excellent chance to take part in activities and plenty to do if they are
able to take part. The entertainment supplied that we were lucky to see were very good indeed. The home is a credit.

Since moving into Meadowcroft in Thame Dad has just blossomed. Since my mother died a year ago dad has been on his own at home with carers going in to help him but still spent a lot of time on his own. In Meadowcroft he loves all the company, the staff are amazing. The activities they put on help create
a great social atmosphere. As family, we are always made very welcome.
Dad is so happy and content. His room is great and kept spotlessly clean. The meals and choice of meals are great also. We really can't thank Meadowcroft enough.

My Sister in law has now settled in and is receiving excellent care. Whenever we visit the management and staff are always friendly and helpful. We are made to feel most welcome. There are always activities for the patients to engage in so that they are not just sitting around as in some homes we have
seen.

I like the atmosphere in Meadowcroft. Friendly, caring, committed staff. There is always someone to raise concerns with and the follow up to any questions gives me confidence in the care provided. Compared to other care homes I have visited Meadowcroft, it is cleaner and doesn't smell of wee! I like
the fact that a lot of the carers are local to Thame which enables them to relate to the residents in a familiar way which makes for a home life atmosphere. My spaniel and I feel very welcome and included in the excellent activities always on offer.

My sister lost her husband; no children and she wanted to come nearer to her original family, which turned out to be down to my wife and I. We toured all the locale plus more facilities of care; with warden etc. nothing was ok for her. We arrived at Meadowcroft, Thames (5 miles), thinking of a long
waiting list. The manager, said 'was she paying', which was right, and a room had just come empty, she showed us and we accepted. God was with us that day. Her care has been very very good, the transition from self-pay to SODC funding went smoothly, so thanks to everyone.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.506)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.506) out of 10 for Meadowcroft is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.506 for Meadowcroft is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (75 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 249 Ratings = 4.506
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Meadowcroft is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
