From the very first contact with the staff at Sunrise, I have had a very positive and supportive experience with my mother, who suffers from dementia. Through every stage of this disease, the staff on the reminiscence floor and elsewhere have taken great care to give mummy the care she has needed.

Although I live in America, The staff managed to keep me informed and involved and never let me worry unnecessarily about her. After her hip operation, she was welcomed back as into a family and given every support necessary. Now in the last days of her life, I sit beside her and staff are caring for us both in the most loving way. I could not be more grateful or thankful.

Both of my parents moved to Sunrise 2 1/2 years ago as my mother's dementia and my father's increasing mobility issues made living in their remote country home too challenging. For my father to have the day to day responsibility for daily life and particularly my mother's care lifted from him was a relief but for my mother, it was disorientating and upsetting. Sunrise has dealt with them very sensitively. The team are highly professional but very friendly and caring. Six months ago my mother was diagnosed with advanced cancer and went downhill incredibly quickly and died. There was never any question of Sunrise not being able to cope with the challenges of palliative care and their professionalism was second to none and their gentle care was exemplary, not only for her but also for my father. He continues to enjoy life there dipping into the community for company and retiring to his room for peace and privacy.

I should say that our mother has only been at Sunrise for a couple of months now so this review is based on our first impressions. However, our initial impressions are top notch in every category highlighted below. The atmosphere of the entire environment is reflective of the mixture of extraordinary warmth and professionalism shown to us by the Director of Community Relations. This approach then appears to flow down through all staff members in the organisation. Critically, this, in turn, leads to a real sense of trust and confidence in Sunrise among my mother's family members and her close friends. Sunrise has given us a dignified, compassionate and elegant solution to a highly emotional and sensitive challenge we found ourselves facing.

My father has been living at Sunrise of Guildford for nearly two years. Once my father settled in, and it does take a while to acclimatise, he has been very happy. He has his own spacious room with a kitchenette and bathroom, he is fed royally and the care given him enables him to live his life without embarrassment or difficulty. Sunrise provides lots of activities which my father takes part in, from flower arranging to painting, from singing in a choir to performing in concerts. The area downstairs is extremely welcoming and the people on reception know everyone and all the relatives and friends coming and going, whilst keeping a watchful eye on everyone. The gardens are delightful. My father was a keen gardener and so he really enjoys a daily walk around the house. I am honestly grateful to everyone who works there for always being cheerful, always approachable, and enabling my father to have a good quality of life despite his infirmities.

Good standard of accommodation. Staff all very nice but they are all very rushed and not enough of them, meaning the one to one attention is sometimes missing.

Very happy with the food/drink for my mother. The concierge/front desk is excellent. Sadly there is some very unhelpful uncaring staff - both in the kitchen and in the caring team. I would struggle to recommend this nursing home because of this.

Very good. The whole place has a very friendly feel to it. Staff are friendly and caring. Rooms are comfortable and it is nice to be able to have one's own furniture and personal items around one. The food is good but could be more attractively presented and is frequently lukewarm when it reaches the table. The waiting leaves a good deal to be desired. The entertainments are excellent. There is plenty to do for those who wish to participate. On the other hand no-one pressures you to participate if you prefer not to. Overall a very pleasant place in which to spend one's last years.

Two of my closest friends have moved into The Sunrise of Guildford in the past year. I have been visiting them regularly and have always been surprised at how the caring and kind all the staff are. I have in the past taken part in activities and had meals here and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My friends and their family have been satisfied with The Sunrise of Guildford.

My mother had been in the hospital for 7 weeks and we were suddenly told that she could be discharged. We had 3 days to organise everything. Sunrise of Guildford staff and management were so very helpful and supportive towards me as I organised the move. Everything went so smoothly and mum has settled in very well. Although very confused a week ago when she arrived she is now thriving in an atmosphere of superb care, understanding- and living on an excellent diet. My thanks to the staff really is difficult to put on to words- only I'm indebted to them. Hopefully, all will continue as well as it has started. 10/10 **

Sunrise of Guildford provides a very positive, clean, happy and well-organised environment, with a strong emphasis on community and quality of life coupled with an extremely flexible visiting policy. The facilities, food and staff are all excellent, helped by the fact that the premises are purpose-built and well designed, with an especially pleasant and secure garden.
