Overall Experience

My mother began her stay at Nower House on a respite care basis and she has remained there since. Mum's arrival at Nower House was at a time when the management was being taken over by Abbeyfield. I noticed that the motto under Abbeyfield's logo read: 'Making time for older people' and this is exactly what the staff and management do at Nower House. The level of professionalism, care and compassion is special. Equally and importantly, the staff are very practical and seem well trained in being sensitive to the individual needs of residents, with a high regard for their dignity and genuine efforts to understand what it is like to be a person of advanced years, relying very much on the help of others. Good food is served in a very pleasant dining room and various talented visiting entertainers are arranged from time to time, as well as occasional outings for those who are able to join them. My experience of Mum staying at Nower House has been very positive.

My mum is a resident at Nower House; she moved here in June 2021. She has a lovely room with great views and a little patio.
We are very happy with the personal care and emotional support Mum has received over the past two years. This level of care for the residents was maintained during challenging Covid times and is down to the fantastic staff.
Housekeeping is excellent, the home is kept very clean, laundry is processed quickly, food is good, and activities and outings are available.

The staff make this home - they are caring, cheerful, friendly, hard-working, helpful and approachable. Thank you.

My mother came to Nower House after a long stay in hospital following a fall at home. It was a difficult decision to make, but the most important aspect for us was her safety; we no longer felt she was safe at home on her own. Any concerns we had about her moving into care were dispelled quickly by the staff at Nower; they are friendly, attentive and caring. Within a very short space of time, they all knew Mum’s name. There was a wonderful entertainer in full flow the day we arrived and that made settling in very easy. Regular activities and entertainment activities are booked by Nower and there are regular trips out throughout the summer months, which Mum really enjoys. Mum has done more in the three months she has been at Nower then she probably did in the last three years at home! Regular weekly visits by a local GP to Nower House mean residents are also well-supported, medically. Knowing that Mum is safe and happy is the most important thing to us; at Nower we know she is.

My mum had to enter The Nower in April, which I found very difficult, however, what a wonderful caring home it is. Mum has settled well, all due to the help of all who work there. It is a happy place with lots provided for all. Outings, singers, artists, hairdresser etc. The chef is amazing, the meals are great and homemade cakes to scoff. All those there have made the transition for Mum and myself so much easier. A big thank you to all.

My Mum was a resident at Nower Care for 3 years prior to her death in May 2022. The care home and the staff were magnificent. Always patient and understanding in their care for Mum from the moment she arrived in May 2019 until the end of her life; always with loving kindness and preserving Mum’s dignity and comfort. Thank you to all the staff.

My mother, aged 94, needed a place to stay for 4 days while she had building works done on her house. Nower Care took her in at short notice, this is her second stay, the last one being a couple of years ago. The staff are very friendly and caring, many of them are still there and remembered my mum. Her room was clean and comfortable. She enjoyed her stay, I would definitely recommend it.

Whenever I have visited Nower Care for over three years, there were always activities going on for the residents. The home was spotlessly clean, the staff were very friendly and my friend was really happy there. She was kept clean and well dressed and often told me how nice the food was and that she was in the best place. I would like to thank all the staff at Nower Care for all they did in looking after my best friend. Thank you very much.

My uncle has received wonderful and loving care at Nower Care. We have been able to visit him in the visitation pod to ensure safety in the pandemic.

Nower care has welcomed my uncle into it;'s family, he couldn't be happier. The staff are kind, respectful, and show empathy while ensuring he is cared for in the manner of his choosing. The manager is a blessing.

My mother chose to move to Nower Care from her own home when she needed more care and companionship and felt too anxious to remain at home alone. From the start, I was confident that she would be well looked after and, throughout her stay, I was nothing but pleased with the care she received. The staff were always kind, attentive and thoughtful, anticipating small but important things such as the need for her spectacles to be cleaned. I wholeheartedly recommend Nower Care.

Mum moved to Nower Care a year and a half ago, and she has never looked back. She is no longer lonely, worried, scared, stressed; all the things that she felt before she moved. The staff are all so kind, friendly, polite and they really helped her settle in. There are always activities going on which also include outings, Mum has been to the ballet, out for lunch, trips to garden centres for a coffee, but she also loves the knitting club and Art Club etc. Mum is always happy when I visit her, she loves her room which is really nice, she has her own things, pictures etc. During the shut down it has been brilliant being able to send her videocall/text messages, and getting lovely messages back, a massive thank you to all the staff.

My Grandmother lives in this care home and I couldn’t ask for her to be in a better place. The home itself is lovely and she has a great room with a great view. The staff are great. Every time I have been in they are so welcoming and friendly and really know all of their residents and their certain needs. Gran has never had a bad thing to say and she loves the staff. The staff and the management do a fantastic job at keeping this place together and the residents are all very happy because of this. There are always lots of activities for the residents and the staff keep them well entertained and busy.

Before my Grandma moved into a care home I was really nervous about what to expect. I am overjoyed that my family chose Nower Care as I can simply not imagine my nan being in a better home. She settled in quite quickly which I did not expect and this is down to all the lovely staff who are so cheerful, helpful and kind. They genuinely care and whenever we have any worries or concerns about my nan they are so helpful and positive. I cannot imagine my nan living anywhere else now and if we had to move her for whatever reason I cannot begin to imagine the stress and disruption it would cause her.
She is content and happy, there are so many great activities for her to get involved in, and food always smells amazing! When I tell people about my nan living in a home I compare it to an amazing hotel; great views from her room, yummy food, and delightful staff!!

I simply cannot imagine her going anywhere else and I am so grateful she has a room there and is in such great care.

All I can say is that my mum is in very safe hands. I live abroad but whenever I visit the care home I feel like I've never been away. The staff are all very friendly and great with my mum. The home itself has a lovely ambience and mums room is perfect for her, with views of local vistas. Mum doesn't always get involved with the activities but they are there if she does want to do them. Every time I visit, it seems that mum has had her hair done which is great for her morale. The garden is also lovely and a great place to get some fresh air. All in all, we couldn't be happier that mum is living in Nower Care home.

My step-mother moved to the Nower last year after her previous care home closed. We were delighted there was a beautiful room available for her and have constantly been impressed by the Nower and the staff there. Her previous home was very good but, by comparison, the Nower far exceeds this.
We are satisfied that my step-mother is happy, safe, extremely well looked after and cared for in every way by kind, attentive and helpful staff who do all they can to provide for her needs. We only wish we'd found a room for her there when she first needed to go into a home 3 years ago.

I have lived most of my life abroad and feel total peace about my step-mother living at the Nower and on several occasions, the staff have gone beyond their normal duties to fill in the gap.

My dear mum has now been a resident at Nower house for a year. I find it to be extremely caring, friendly and supportive which I partly attribute the fact that there seems to be a low turnover of staff with many of them being local and long-serving. Most of all, they seem to 'know' my Mum with her likes, dislikes and her humour. She particularly likes the 'sing-a-longs' which she joins in with gusto. At times, the carers or activity organisers go out of their way to find things which interest her. They also cope patiently with her physical disabilities and are very welcoming to all her visitors. I really can't think of a better place for my Mum to be at this time of her life.

My sister was suddenly bereaved leaving her alone and not able, or either wanting, to care for herself. I was recommended Nower Care by two different people I respected. As soon as I walked into the reception area and met the staff, I could tell it had a lovely homely feel. My sister and I have been completely satisfied with our decision. I was treated with the utmost efficiency and respect in securing a room for her. The staff are all kind and loving to the clients. I live close by, so am fortunate enough to be able to visit at various times of the day. My sister has gained a new lease of life and has made friends with some very nice clients and staff. She always praises the high quality of the food served. Trips out are an option, and she particularly enjoyed a trip to out for an ice cream last summer. Nower Care has enabled us to enjoy the time we have together without the pressure of me worrying about whether she is looking after herself.
