Positive and caring and hospitable atmosphere throughout. Very helpful administration staff. Good nursing care. Good and kind daily care. Very clean facilities. Good home cooking. Good accommodation; cleaned daily; comfortable bed.
I was in the final two weeks of a four-week convalescent period after
a back operation. Everything I experienced at Alfriston Court went a long way in aiding my recovery and confidence during an uncertain time.
I will recommend Alfriston Court.

In evaluating Alfriston Court Care Home I have to say that I have no personal experience of other homes. I did, however, spend a lot of time visiting others in the area before arranging for my wife to become a resident. Unfortunately, the extent of my wife's physical as well as mental disabilities is
such that she is unable to take advantage of many of the activities, she is unable to use the well equipped bathroom en suite to her room, and she is unable to eat normal meals.
That said, I am very grateful that a place became available for my wife at Alfriston Court when she needed it and I am very pleased with the way she has been looked after. The home has a friendly, homely atmosphere, my wife's room is very pleasant, with beautiful views - in fact the surroundings are a major attraction. All of the staff, and not just the carers, are welcoming and caring and go out of their way to be helpful. The recent change of ownership has resulted in a number of real improvements to the building.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My experience when I visit my sister is very positive, although I can't get there as often as I would like. The staff know me, or of me, and always offer and bring tea or coffee which is so nice for my sister as it is what she would have done at home. There are frequent activities which she enjoys and
there are meetings from time to time at which residents are encouraged to make any comments or suggestions they may have.
Her room is comfortable with a clean and bright bathroom/loo. She has her own pictures and could bring pieces of her own furniture. The main sitting and dining areas are really pleasant to be in - quiet and attractive. My sister loves to be outside on the easily accessible terrace, in the good weather, the surroundings are particularly lovely.
I have no personal experience of the food, though my sister says it is good. Similarly, I can't give a opinion on 'management' or 'value'. However, I can say that I enjoy my visits to my sister because she is comfortable and happy and I appreciate the welcoming and friendly atmosphere and staff.
Reply from Deborah Andrews, Director at Alfriston Court Care HomeDear Anna, thank you so much for your encouraging words. It's wonderful that you can visit as often as you do. Thank you.

My mum has been a resident here since the end of January 2024, and I can honestly say, hand on heart that it is truly a special place.
Not just its beautiful surroundings within the national park, affording the stunning views from many of the rooms and social areas. The home too has undergone extensive
refurbishment throughout by the new owners. They have respected the history and architecture of the building while providing a comfortable ‘home’ for the residents and their visitors.
More importantly to mention is the holistic approach taken with each resident and their families. Having been a nurse myself for 20 years, I recognise the exemplary quality of the nursing care, which is managed by one member of staff in particular. She leads one of the most dedicated and caring teams I’ve had the pleasure to know.
All the staff, from the chefs, the maintenance team, the laundry and cleaning team all know each resident by name. The activity team are amazing too, thank you all.

My aunt resided 14 months here, she enjoyed a beautiful room with a picturesque view.
From my initial visit, I felt happy and comfortable with the property and the staff. My numerous questions were answered promptly. She received excellent care, we were regularly updated on her health status, and
we were promptly contacted when there were any areas of concern.
The staff made sincere efforts to engage her in activities aligned with her interests, while also respecting her need for privacy during moments of personal reflection. Special occasions and holidays were celebrated with enthusiasm.
Despite a change in ownership, there was no compromise in the quality of care. Positive cosmetic changes were visible, but the standard of care remained consistent.
During our weekly visits, we were always greeted warmly, and any enquiries or requests made over the phone were promptly addressed.
We are delighted that we chose Alfriston Court.

Overall we are very happy with the care provided by Alfriston Court Care Home. The staff who we have contact with are all very caring and helpful. Special mention should go to the Nursing Lead and Activities Coordinator who is very professional and dedicated, however, all staff should be commended for
their hard work and kindness.

My mum has a nice big room, she is bed bound and has to be hoisted in and out. She goes downstairs for lunch most days. The dining room is big and looks out onto the South Downs. The food is good, all over Xmas, families were welcomed to have lunch together with their resident. I mostly visit once a
week and I find a warm welcome. As an only child with a very close relationship to my mum, I feel heard by all the carers, nurses, manager, kitchen and laundry staff. My Mum is a very anxious and traumatised person, and particularly at night she can be shouting and very upset. We have all dealt with this together as a team. She’s been in the home since April 2023, and has settled in well. The activity staff are really wonderful. I can see that Mum is sincerely cared for and loved. It was hard for us to find a home for Mum and I am very happy she’s there. It’s the best home for her at this point in her life. If the weather’s ok we can go out onto the patio and today (5/01/24) it was glorious, Mum loved it.

Alfriston Court sits in a valley of green with a silver ribbon of a river. This view can be seen every day from the dining room, in the summer from the outside veranda. The staff are a good team, giving attention when needed. Many of them have worked at Alfriston Court for some time, familiar faces
are a comfort to the residents. Each room is decorated to the choice of the resident. A home from home. The entertainment team are entertaining, not a 'virtual event' gets by without their notice. Tableside or bedside, they are there!

Cannot recommend higher. Every experience on every visit was excellent. The care team were just lovely even when my dad was not feeling his best. The care given to the family in his final days was also noteworthy. If I ever need to go into care, I want to come here. The food and activity below are very
specific to my dad's situation and determined by him.

I am pleased my brother is in Alfriston Court Care Home. I had good reports and I was not disappointed. He seems very happy there. My only disappointment is the car park. I know Alfriston Court Care Home is remote but an awful lot of staff park in the main car park and it is awkward to park when visiting.
The entrance needs to be looked at.
Reply from Deborah Andrews, Director at Alfriston Court Care HomeThank you so much for your kind comments which are such an encouragement to the care team. In regards to the car park, we do try to keep the upper car park for visitors only and we will endeavour to make sure this continues. My mother was a resident in Alfriston Court Care Home from 2019-2023. She was very happy there and regarded the carers and other staff as her friends. My father moved to Alfriston Court Care Home after a stay in hospital and a rehabilitation centre following a stroke. He was almost completely bedbound, confused and in very low spirits. Since he has been there, Dad has been very well looked after, all of the staff are very kind and caring as well as
respectful to him and his wishes. The senior staff have also helped us, keeping us informed and talking to us to find out about Dad and his foibles in order to work out the best way to approach helping him.
Dad has all along found it difficult to be so dependent but in recent weeks, his mood has improved and he is much more engaged and positive. While he is still bedbound we are hoping he might become a bit more active and even eventually be able to enjoy more of the facilities the home offers.
We are very thankful that we found such a lovely place for him and grateful for the care they are all giving him.

My mother-in-law spent 4 and a half years at Alfriston Court Care Home. She has severe mobility issues and was quite an anxious person resulting in her not being able to cope at home. Alfriston Court welcomed her, made her feel secure and restored her confidence. She was genuinely happy at Alfriston
Court and loved all the staff. She took part in the activities provided and was especially fond of the art classes. I can't recommend the staff highly enough. The facilities and the setting were fantastic.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.838)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.838) out of 10 for Alfriston Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.838 for Alfriston Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (249 Excellents x 5) + (37 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 291 Ratings = 4.838
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alfriston Court Care Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Vanessa (aka Nessie, pictured left) was one of the famous Butlins’ Redcoats, a title given to frontline staff at Butlins holiday camps throughout the UK with duties ranging from adults’ and children’s entertainment to stewarding.

Undergoing a tough selection process, each Redcoat has to show customer services and guest-facing skills and can also showcase their singing and dancing expertise.

Nessie stills absolutely loves singing and entertaining and puts these skills to great use for our residents here at Alfriston Court, which she joined two years ago. One of her biggest aims, she says, is to keep the residents happy and Nessie organises events to keep everyone engaged and as fit as they can be.

Sallyann is a more recent addition to the activities team, but joins us with a mass of experience. We'll update you with her background just as soon as we have it all!
