Alfriston Court is a wonderful nursing home in a beautiful location. The staff are very kind and caring, and also extremely professional and efficient. Earlier this year we moved my father here for the last few weeks of his life, and the transformation was immediately apparent – within a day he was
relaxed and happy in a way he had not been for months. Now our mother is living there, and we have again been really impressed with the care she has received and the improvement in her health and happiness as a result. We would unreservedly recommend Alfriston Court to anyone looking for a friendly, tranquil, and loving nursing home for a relative or friend.
Reply from Rebecca Hignett, Operations Support Manager at Alfriston Court Care HomeThank you so very much for your wonderfully kind words about our home and our team. We take a lot of pride in what we do and are so happy that your mother and father have enjoyed their time at Alfriston Court. I will pass on your lovely message to our team - thank you again!

The management and staff have done a great job in keeping things going as usual in such a caring and professional way in this unique 'home from home' atmosphere all through extremely testing covid times, despite no doubt having to battle with their own work and personal problems. We really appreciated
and enjoyed all the effort put into a small family birthday celebration arranged beautifully on the terrace in July.

So pleased with how my Grandma is looked after here!
She has been a resident for nearly 7 years now and is currently needing more care than ever before.
I can see how well she is being looked after and I trust Alfriston Court Care Home completely. The family receive regular emails from the Head of
Care, updating us on how she's doing, which we're so appreciative of.
Thanks so much for all your hard work.
Reply from Debra Freeman, Head of Sales & Marketing at Alfriston Court Care HomeThank you so much. We are extremely happy that you are happy. It is imperative to us that we adapt both our individual nursing care and/or our residential care to whatever is needed at any given time and that all our residents are given, not only the care that they need but the best care. I've passed on your comments to the team and thank you again.

My wife and I are so pleased with the quality of care at Alfriston Court Care Home.
My Grandmother-in-law is a resident here, and my wife has had peace of mind ever since her beloved nan moved here in 2014.
The two have always been close, and I’m so happy to see both of them smiling. We really couldn’t
recommend this place more!

My mother continues to be settled and very happy at Alfriston Court Care Home. Her room is comfortable, very light and airy. The views over the downs and the comings and goings of the wildlife keep my mother extremely interested. Especially through this very difficult year. The care and attention she
receives is first class and the staff have gone above and beyond to help to keep the family well informed about her health and well-being. Always someone to speak to if we have worries or concerns.

We could not fault any of the team at Alfriston Court every single one of them was absolutely amazing. They made the decision and transition for my dad from being cared for at home to moving into nursing care so much more bearable than we thought it could ever be. It is so clear that they genuinely
care for all of the residents and know and understand them and most importantly, treat them as individuals. My family and I were made to feel so welcome and in the last few days of my dad's life when we were around all of the time, they were incredible with allowing us space to be with dad but making sure we were fed and watered. I could not recommend this home highly enough!

During his short respite stay at Alfriston Court, my father was extremely well looked after. The staff were unfailingly kind and did their utmost to ensure my father was comfortable. His room was surprisingly large, and the staff did their best to make him feel at home. He found the meals appetising
and the dining room had the most wonderful views over the Downs. It was also no trouble if we wanted a quieter venue for lunch, as the staff were happy to serve us in the library. The nursing staff were always willing to discuss his care, and the management were very helpful and flexible when it came to unexpectedly extending my father’s stay. He is now happily settled back at home, but we would not hesitate to book another stay at Alfriston Court. My father has read and heartily endorses, this review. Many thanks to all the staff with our very best wishes.

My mother was only in the home for three and a half months but even though she didn't want to go into a care home, the staff tried to make her stay there as comfortable as possible.
The only time I wish to bring to light was that my mother took very ill on a Friday night and because the local GP had
not written an end of life care package up, my daughter had to drive across country late at night for the prescription.

My mother-in-law [Mum] has been cared for and nursed at Alfriston Court now since May 2016. The understanding, care and support given by all staff has been completely genuine throughout that time. The consideration and friendliness by staff for Mum and her family has been openly sincere, making every
possible requirement to ensure the best arrangments are made for Mum's quality of life. The significant effort to organise the regular activities by staff for residents is very clear to see by their enjoyment and is much appreciated by all who attend. The staff were so accommodating with giving their time and helpful input for having Mum's 100th Birthday Party event at Alfriston Court for which we will be eternally grateful. It was no surprise that my own family were so pleased that our own Mother was also able to be resident at Alfriston Court for a short period before her passing. Again the staff were so naturally supportive and friendly for her and her particular needs.

Mum stayed 18 days, but won’t be going back. Impressed initially by our guided tour but the day we dropped Mum off, it was a shambolic checking in process, not very welcoming. No-one was available to sign for the cash Mum took in.
When we called by phone staff couldn't transfer our call to her room
phone, instead, having to walk round to her room and present her with their phone.
The hot water in Mum’s ensuite was unreliable so she didn't shower for her entire stay. Staff finally offered an assisted shower on day 17. She asked instead for a bath. The water was cold so Mum had to go without. Coincidence that the shower was only offered the day before she was due to be collected by her family.
I complained in writing, got the usual apologetic letter with noises about reviewing processes etc, but no suggestion of any partial refund etc.
Hopefully, they have sharpened up their act since. We won’t be using them again, but at least we learnt not to be over-influenced by nice surroundings!
Reply from Kate Russell, Head of Sales & Marketing at Alfriston Court Care HomeDear Jo,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry that you did not find our service as you would have expected, and we thank you for highlighting to us the shortfalls in your Mum’s stay. Sharon the Home manager fully investigated each concern raised and we have implemented changes as a direct result.
Please accept our sincere apologies that on this occasion we did not meet the expectations from your initial visit to the home and we wish both you and your Mum the very best for the future.

Kind regards
Kate Russell

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.838)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.838) out of 10 for Alfriston Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.838 for Alfriston Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (249 Excellents x 5) + (37 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 291 Ratings = 4.838
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alfriston Court Care Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

He is enormously well-liked and has a superb set of skills which keep his menus exciting, nutritious, traditional yet innovative and well-balanced.

Adam takes great pride in delivering the very best quality cuisine for Alfriston Court’s residents and has been a finalist in the Independent Care Home Caterer of the Year Awards.

“It wasn’t something I was looking for at the time, but I’m very happy I grabbed the opportunity to work at Alfriston Court. Becoming Head Chef has allowed me to develop my skills even further and I really enjoy what I do for our lovely residents.”

Vanessa (aka Nessie, pictured left) was one of the famous Butlins’ Redcoats, a title given to frontline staff at Butlins holiday camps throughout the UK with duties ranging from adults’ and children’s entertainment to stewarding.

Undergoing a tough selection process, each Redcoat has to show customer services and guest-facing skills and can also showcase their singing and dancing expertise.

Nessie stills absolutely loves singing and entertaining and puts these skills to great use for our residents here at Alfriston Court, which she joined two years ago. One of her biggest aims, she says, is to keep the residents happy and Nessie organises events to keep everyone engaged and as fit as they can be.

Sallyann is a more recent addition to the activities team, but joins us with a mass of experience. We'll update you with her background just as soon as we have it all!
