Woodlands care home is one of the most homely and friendly around and they welcome people with open arms, like a big family. Their focus is on brighter living, so every day they bring a ray of sunshine to their residents. Their seven day a week sunny moments club, led by their dedicated activity co-ordinator, provides a variety of one to one and group activities, based on residents hobbies and interests - there's something for everyone.

Each resident has an allocated key worker and the staff team receive regular training to make sure they provide the best care and support 24 hours a day.

The home has a 5* food hygiene certificate and the in-house catering team create delicious, nutritious home-cooked meals, reflecting residents preferences.

Engaging and involving the residents is important and they constantly seek ideas, feedback and suggestions from the residents and their family to continuously improve their service.

Woodlands is a purpose-built home close to a forest with a wealth of wildlife seen from bedroom windows amongst the mature gardens.

The home has spacious modern en suite rooms to accommodate a homely community of 39 residents, all of which have garden views.

There is a large lounge area with fireplace, a private bar area and a bright and airy dining room, as well as plentiful day rooms, an activities room and hairdressing salon.

All inclusive pricing - Our care fees include all accommodation and household bills, personal care, all meals, snacks and non-alcoholic refreshments, and the cleaning and laundry service. Extra services can be purchased as required, such as telephone, hairdressing and chiropody.


We are a not for profit organisation which means any surplus we make in income is invested back into our properties to improve the quality of life of our residents. Sussex Housing & Care has been supporting older people to live brighter lives since 1946.

My parents moved to Woodlands in November 2019. The setting was as home-like as a care home can be. During the lockdowns, which began soon afterwards, they received excellent care. However, it wasn't until my father died last month that I realised how exceptional that care is. The hospital warned us
that our hopes of having him transferred back to Woodlands for his final days were most likely misplaced for a care home would be unwilling to accept the demanding nursing responsibilities. To the amazement of the palliative care doctor, staff insisted that Woodlands was his home and they wanted him back. During the four days he had left he was devotedly nursed by carers who knew and loved him. On his final night, the manager and a senior carer who had finished a 12 hour shift insisted on remaining with him for another 12 hours until he died. We could not have asked for a more supportive environment. The Woodlands team really do treat residents - and relatives - as family.

Woodlands has offered a friendly, professional and extremely well run home for my father. He was reluctant to go into a home and we were concerned due to Covid. We needn’t have worried, he is extremely happy, settled and very well cared for. The home has a happy welcoming feel to it.

My father has been living at Woodlands for the last 3 years plus. His care has been excellent and he is well looked after at all times.
Sadly he has Alzheimer's and his memory is not great but using his own words he regularly tells me how lovely all the staff are and how lucky he is to be at Woodlands.
They have handled what has been an extremely difficult time over the last 18 months but their communication and different safe ways of safely visiting dad have been well done.
I have been most impressed with everything about Woodlands and it is a relief for the family that he is in good hands.

My mother is very happy at Woodlands and feels secure, and very well looked after. The staff are all very friendly and responsive. Mum chooses to spend her time in her room but is happy with this. Staff always try to gently encourage her to join in but do not apply any pressure. My mother and her family
feel that the staff have been amazing throughout the very challenging COVID-19 crisis!

Very good quality of care. Residents have been kept safe during the pandemic. It's difficult to give a truly accurate review as we haven't actually been able to go in due to covid 19. We have been able to visit safely outside, however, communication has been good overall. Safety has been paramount,
and the views of relatives listened to.

My mum moved in two months ago when my dad was unable to cope any longer with her dementia. It was a difficult time as they had been married for 71 years. Mum is much happier in a place where she has activities and plenty of people around her.
Woodlands provides a lovely caring family and wonderful
meals. The rooms are bright and spacious, and visitors are welcome at any time, even when we need to leave there is always someone to chat to Mum.

Woodlands is a lovely, homely place with very caring staff who know their residents so well. Mum was reluctant to go into a home, even though she knew she needed to, and they were fantastic; encouraging her to join in and not sit alone in her room knowing how hard she found it to mix. There is always
a friendly welcome when I visit and both the management and carers are always willing to answer any questions or worries I have. I would definitely recommend it.

My mum had to be admitted at very short notice over a weekend. The duty manager was fantastic at arranging for us to visit on a Sunday and move in the next day. Everything went very smoothly, the staff were great and Mum is now comfortable and safe.

My mother was a resident at Woodlands for almost 3 years, for the last few months of her life she was able to stay there nursed by the carers. It was important to her and her family that she remained in her familiar surroundings with her family able to visit at any time. Doctors and nurses visited regularly
whenever there were any concerns. She could have her TV or music or just sleep quietly. Most importantly she was treated with dignity and respect. We were able to be with her for her last hours. Thank you to everyone involved with Mum's care and for the support, we also received at a difficult time.

Was worried when my daughter brought me to Woodlands having just lost my wife and being alone in a big house. But was welcomed and it didn't take long to settle in! Woodlands is friendly, caring and homely, I feel very glad that my dad lives there. The staff are kind, helpful and treat him with respect (I have witnessed staff at other care homes talking to residents as if they are children or stupid). They take action quickly and efficiently when it is needed,
but are also calm and create a relaxed atmosphere for the residents. Dad is well looked after and the food is especially good. I have peace of mind in relation to his well being, this is particularly important to me as I only get to Sussex about once a month to see him (I live and work in Dorset). Thankfully my brother is down the road and my nieces a mile away, we are all made to feel welcome when we visit.

Woodlands is the third home my mother has been in. She was extremely unhappy in the last two and I had to move her. The moment she moved to Woodlands she started to smile again. It is not easy getting old and losing health and independence but I am comfortable in the knowledge that if she has to grow
old anywhere this is the place. The staff treat her with dignity and always have time for a kind word or action. It is her home rather than just being a Home and I have no hesitation in recommending it to others. At times my mother is not well but a kind word and a hug from people who really seem to care really does keep her safe and feeling loved and wanted. Thank you Woodlands for treating each of your clients as if they were special.

Woodlands is in a very pleasant location just off the A26. The common areas of the home have recently been redecorated to a good standard.


Cleanliness is generally very good. The staff are helpful and caring and keep me informed of any issues which arise. Sadly there does seem to be quite a high

level of turnover of staff.

Thanks for your review, Michael. After listening to our staff we have recently changed the hours of shifts to make them more appealing with a later start time in the morning for the day staff. This is so it's easier to get to work using public transport and is also accommodating for staff who have childcare arrangements. Along with some other new arrangements, we hope staff will stay working with us.

My brothers and I are extremely satisfied with the care given to our mother over the past five years at Woodlands Residential Care Home. She herself has been very happy there from the start of her stay, a fact particularly important for us as we all three live either abroad or several hours away from
the home.
The home is well and efficiently run, hygiene is always respected, the food is excellent, and a warm and friendly atmosphere prevails. The staff are very attentive to our mother's needs, and we have often been touched on our visits by the patience and affectionate attitude of the carers towards her. We have complete trust in the staff of Woodlands to care for our mother in the best possible way during these last difficult months.

"I joined in April 2024. My journey in the care field started in 2017, beginning with my BTEC in Nursing, which equipped me with a strong foundation for my career. Starting as a support worker and progressing to assistant general manager back in Spain, I discovered genuine fulfilment in this environment.


Since relocating to the UK, I've served as a Senior Carer whilst qualifying as a Biomedical Scientist. What draws me most to working with older people is the profound sense of gratitude they express when receiving care and support. Witnessing their appreciation fuels my passion for this work every day.

Hi, I'm Liz, I am the care home administrator at Woodlands and am often the first point of contact when you call or visit our home. I enjoy liaising with residents and their families and helping to make sure new residents settle in well.
