Woodlands care home is one of the most homely and friendly around and they welcome people with open arms, like a big family. Their focus is on brighter living, so every day they bring a ray of sunshine to their residents. Their seven day a week sunny moments club, led by their dedicated activity co-ordinator, provides a variety of one to one and group activities, based on residents hobbies and interests - there's something for everyone.

Each resident has an allocated key worker and the staff team receive regular training to make sure they provide the best care and support 24 hours a day.

The home has a 5* food hygiene certificate and the in-house catering team create delicious, nutritious home-cooked meals, reflecting residents preferences.

Engaging and involving the residents is important and they constantly seek ideas, feedback and suggestions from the residents and their family to continuously improve their service.

Woodlands is a purpose-built home close to a forest with a wealth of wildlife seen from bedroom windows amongst the mature gardens.

The home has spacious modern en suite rooms to accommodate a homely community of 39 residents, all of which have garden views.

There is a large lounge area with fireplace, a private bar area and a bright and airy dining room, as well as plentiful day rooms, an activities room and hairdressing salon.

We are a not for profit organisation which means any surplus we make in income is invested back into our properties to improve the quality of life of our residents. Sussex Housing & Care has been supporting older people to live brighter lives since 1946.

I’m very well looked after here. I’m given too much food, but it’s all fine! The staff are exceedingly kind and caring and patient. My daughter looked at every home in Crowborough and chose Woodlands because everyone was so welcoming here.

It has been a great experience for Mum at Woodlands. She has been well cared for, even though she took time to settle in and has unfortunately deteriorated now and has to move. We are sad she now has to move on to nursing care.

I'll start by saying my aunt chose and admitted herself into Woodlands of her own volition, as she had visited other residents. Her own view was reasonably positive; she said she was comfortable, reasonably well fed and above all, was "not fussed." However she never seemed happy and remained much of
her own-her choice, I guess.


However, our experiences as relatives were not so sanguine. Firstly, the enquiries made into my aunt"s finances were little short of draconian and took a long time during which she paid at a higher rate. This was embarrassing and exasperating.


We thought it was all rather too "hands off" and we saw little evidence of real care. For example, my aunt waited a month for her pictures to be hung; in the end, we did it ourselves. When we visited no-one ever greeted us and the general atmosphere struck us as rather distant and unhelpful.

As you know, moving to a care home is a big decision and it is our policy, as it is for many other care providers, to do an independent financial check to make sure our fees are affordable over the longer term. Personal financial details are kept confidential. We do this check, which usually only takes a few days, for the wellbeing of the resident, ensuring they can have continuous care.


We are a not for profit organisation, so we reinvest our annual surplus back into our properties to continue to improve our residents’ quality of life, this sets us apart from other commercial care providers.


We apologise that it took a while to get our handyman to hang your aunt’s pictures, and we will work to improve on this service. Settling residents into their new home is a priority and we want them to feel as homely as possible, which is why we encourage residents to bring their own furniture and furnishings.


We pride ourselves in delivering excellent customer service and friendliness and your feedback with regards to our staff and atmosphere at the home is something we rarely hear. Again, we apologise that this has been your experience and we would like to reassure you that Woodlands has a ‘good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission.

When my parents first moved there we were very impressed with the services initially. However, over time the standards have gone down in quality, particularly since some of the original staff have left. Much of the new care staff do not appear to have the qualities necessary for a care home. The alarm
does not always bring a carer quickly. Also, a lot of the meals provided, particularly the meat, is not of a good quality. The cake is all too often offered when a fruit option should be offered too. My father has often not finished his meal because it doesn't taste good or the meat is sub-standard.


Unfortunately, unless things change dramatically, I would not recommend this home.

The staff are exceptional and incredibly patient with my Mum. It's a real comfort to know my Mum is in good hands and it has taken a lot of stress away knowing there's always someone on hand when she needs help. I can't thank the staff enough for all they do.

Outstanding care and environment, with all residents treated with the dignity they deserve. I was so pleased when Woodlands phoned to tell me there was a room available for my mother after the horrendous places I had visited in my search for a suitable home. Care of the elderly is a phase in everyone's

My brother is a rather private person and doesn't benefit from all the opportunities for social activity. However, the care home meets the high standards of his expectations. My wife and I enjoy visiting and having lunch with him and enjoy the welcome and helpful attitude of the staff. The building
is light and airy and the outlook from his room is Ashdown Forest which is pleasant.

Looking after elderly patients with their deteriorating health, mobility and in severe cases, their mental health is a very demanding and often stressful task. I have been impressed over the last 22months, how well the staff at Woodlands have coped. They maintain a good level of cleanliness, supply
excellent food and organise regular activities and entertainment. Getting to know patients individually with their specific needs and comforts, requires dedication and the staff make an effort to do this.


As for the location, Woodlands is nestled in a corpse of trees, far enough from the main road to enjoy the tranquillity. There is seating in the lawned area and a secure patio. One can relax on a sunny day watching the woodland wildlife. Care home costs are not cheap but Woodlands offers great value.

I have come here for a short stay to have a break. I am enjoying being waited on and the food is very good, almost too much!


The room and bed are comfortable and I've enjoyed chatting with people here.

My mother celebrated her 99th birthday today. The staff ensured she had the clothes on I requested. They all sang Happy Birthday on getting her up and after lunch, a beautiful cake was produced.
We had a lovely lunch with her. The staff here are caring and courteous to both residents and visitors.
Everywhere is clean and smelling nice.
I have worked in a care home and appreciate the care they need. Manageable, approachable and helpful with any problems.

The care is good but could do with more staff to be better. It's sad that the lack of staff lets the care home down which is needed for the number of residents.

I have found the whole set-up at the Woodlands care home extremely acceptable.


The location, access and the general surroundings are perfect for my mother-in-law.


The staff, who are mainly local residents, are very friendly and efficient and their caring attitude is very apparent and applies right

across the board from senior management downwards.

I have been visiting regularly for several years. I have always been impressed with the general ambience, the staff are welcoming and attentive, everywhere always looks clean. I often see the activities taking place in the lounges, the friend I visit rarely takes part which is a shame.
