Actually a comment on the five years that my stepfather has lived at Saxonwood, sadly dying one month short of his 95th birthday. In fact, looking at the first instance, it was March 16th five years ago it became home, and a wonderful, if not ideal, one, which he grew into, with friends and warmth, among staff and fellow residents, and good food (mealtimes always his favourite time of day), a full day of activity. He adjusted to not being at home, and became alive in a way after being at home by himself for some years. I think we can only be enormously grateful to you all and to those who strongly endorsed the choice. Heartfelt thanks.

Thank you for your wonderful review and we enjoyed the five years where your stepfather was part of our Saxonwood family, along with your visits. We appreciate and understand whole heartedly that moving to a care home can be an anxious and stressful time for some people, and sometimes it's a decision that is hard to make. However, as we often find, when people move to Saxonwood they thrive - enjoying the delicious home cooked food, the variety of activities and social interactions with fellow residents and staff - a real boost to their mental health and wellbeing. Again, thank you for your kind comments and please do visit again in the future.

This is a lovely, homely, and well-maintained care home surrounded by beautiful gardens. The staff are so welcoming and the management of the home is excellent. My Mum has advanced dementia, but she seems content, is very well cared for, and enjoys her food! She clearly likes the staff, who work hard to make her feel comfortable and included. I really appreciate the relatives' meetings to keep us informed, and an excellent training session run by the Activities Manager to better understand dementia. I love the way that Saxonwood encourages other groups from the Battle community to engage with the residents - such as a very enjoyable intergenerational art session with local playgroup, primary and secondary school children held recently. Communal areas have recently been redecorated to a high standard, and the layout of the bright, comfortable lounge thoughtfully redesigned to facilitate a range of activities, rest and conversation. I am very happy that Mum is living at Saxonwood.
Thank you for your 5* review of Saxonwood, it's brilliant to hear your positive feedback and that your Mum enjoys the company and care of our fantastic staff team. Community connections are important to us, and we're pleased you enjoyed our most recent event. Thank you for your positive feedback about the new furniture and decorations in the lounge. It seems everyone is enjoying this space!
My mother( who has been a resident in Saxonwood for almost thirteen years) recently celebrated her 100th birthday. I had originally booked a local restaurant for a gathering of family and friends, but the venue cancelled this a week later. As it transpired, this was highly fortuitous, because the...
The level of service and quality of food were beyond what we would have otherwise received and the care and attention lavished upon us all was incomparable.
Every member of staff, whatever their role, made everyone feel so welcome, for which I am eternally grateful.
Special thanks to chef and her brigade!
Thank you for your wonderful 5* review. It was a delight to host your Mother's 100th birthday and our staff team and residents enjoyed celebrating with her and all of your family. Saxonwood has been wonderful to my 94-year-old neighbour. The care has been exemplary and she has been treated with dignity at all times. She has improved in confidence and offered encouragement at all times. I have no hesitation in recommending Saxonwood for either respite or long-term care.

The Saxonwood staff are always polite and have smiles on their faces and in their voices on the phone whenever I telephone or visit which makes for a lovely atmosphere and community. My uncle is offered daily activities to participate in covering a good range of interests and helping to promote health e.g. chair exercise sessions. He has his own space to retreat to when he feels like it and that overlooks a lovely garden area. I am very happy that my uncle is getting good care and seems to be thriving better than when he was at home alone.
We're pleased your Uncle is thriving at Saxonwood and enjoying the variety of activities. Our friendly team create a caring and vibrant community and we love welcoming family and visitors into our home. Thank you for your review.

I started at Saxonwood as a Care Assistant in 2014, and a year later, with the support of my team and manager, I became a Senior Care Assistant. I was in this role for five years. I've been able to upskill myself, and with support and training from Sussex Housing & Care, I've progressed to being the Deputy Manager, and since October 2025, I have been fortunate to be the Care Home Manager at Saxonwood.
I love working at Saxonwood, it's a brilliant home where we put residents at the heart of everything we do. We have lots of fun with residents and their families, and I enjoy making a difference to the daily life and well-being of our residents.

I was attracted to working for Sussex Housing & Care because it felt homely, bright and friendly at Saxonwood. I find working with older people incredibly interesting, finding out all about their life stories and careers.
I have a background in administration, as previously I worked as an administrator at The Priory in Heathfield, and since joining Saxonwood as the care home administrator, I have also gained experience as a Care Assistant and have studied a City & Guilds Diploma in Business Administration. I work closely with Roxi to lead our team, and Saxonwood is like a big family. We have fun together, and it’s a brilliant place to work. I look forward to coming in!

I qualified as a chef over 30 years ago and have worked in many different roles within catering, including as a bakery-trained confectioner, dietary needs chef, Head Chef, Head of Catering and Chef Manager. I am also qualified to teach food safety, nutrition, and dietary needs from the CIEH. I was also a home care worker for two years, and so I bring a lot of experience and knowledge to my role as Chef Manager at Saxonwood.
The job I do plays a major role at Saxonwood as food and hospitality are always a highlight of our residents' day. I have enjoyed taking part in activities, planning, preparing, and producing food and drinks for events, getting to know the residents, receiving good feedback and implementing new menus. I feel privileged to work with a great team both in and out of the kitchen, producing food that looks as good as it tastes and is enjoyed by all.
