The Anchorage is very much a home-from-home. My mum has been a resident for nearly 18 months and she says there is nothing she would change. Thanks to the wonderful staff - it feels like one big family.

Overall very good, lovely people, well organised, a credit to all the staff that I came in contact with, plus the background staff, i.e. caterers and laundry. Only complaint I'm a big man with lack of ability so the toilet could have been higher. Seat extensions are not suitable.

The Anchorage has provided care for my mother for the last 18 months. The staff have all been excellent and all are approachable if there are any queries I may have. The management, in particular, has been excellent, always available to talk and take time to inform me how my mother is.
The care home
is always clean and there are many activities available for the residents.

The Anchorage in Pulborough is an excellent care home that looks after our mother with great care and affection for our mother. The staff are all professional, helpful, caring and as all the residents say "are like an extended family". The Anchorage feels like a friendly home rather than a medical/clinical
institution. In a word... excellent.

I would like to comment on the excellent care which my mother received during a recent outbreak of Covid. The outbreak affected about six residents who needed to be isolated in their rooms, this massively impacted on the staff workload as dining room service was suspended and every resident took their
meals in their room. In addition, full PPE had to be worn when attending those who were sick. However, extra staff were engaged from an agency which has links with The Anchorage and high standards of care were maintained. All staff should be congratulated for this.
Reply from Kate Wyatt, Administrator at The AnchorageThank you so much for your review. We take infection control very seriously here and very much appreciate your comments to support this on your review. I will pass on your comments to the team here at The Anchorage.

In early summer 2022, I researched care homes that were close to Billingshurst West Sussex with a view to booking my 96-year-old mother in for two weeks of respite care. We visited and were impressed with the facilities, management and staff. As an independent woman, still living alone, she reluctantly
agreed to the stay. In the summer of 2023, we booked again, but I knew at 97, in frail health, she would not be returning home. One week into her stay she was admitted to hospital for five weeks. On regaining her health and being fit for discharge The Anchorage visited her in St Richard's and the Manager offered her a place back at the home. I was relieved. I have visited many care homes. The Anchorage is in a different league. The staff are truly wonderful. Loving and caring. The building oozes happiness. The food is restaurant/hotel standard. The rooms with ensuite are fabulous. The entertainment is jolly and inclusive. Mum died there in December loved and cared for in her home from home.
Reply from Kate Wyatt, Administrator at The AnchorageThank you for your very kind and honest response. We felt privileged to get to know you all and care for your mum. Your support for the time mum was with us was very much appreciated by all the teams. You are always welcome here as part of our Anchorage family.

My aunt decided she wanted to become a resident after a short respite stay. She has found the transition quite difficult but everyone has made her feel valued and welcome.
There have been a couple of occasions where communication might have been slightly better in terms of her expectations but, overall,
all the staff members have listened to her needs and responded promptly, courteously and kindly.

I was a resident from late September 2023 until mid-November 2023 following a long stay in hospital.
I found the home to be a great place. I was looked after very well by the excellent staff, who are very caring.
The activities programme is varied and well set up and does help to make the time pass
well. There is a mix of physical and fun activities to suit all.
The home is well-managed which gave my family confidence I was being well treated. I always felt safe.
There is a good spirit in the home with a lot of laughter.
I am now home and doing well thanks to the time I spent at the home but I do miss my ‘Anchorage friends’.

I have known about the Anchorage for many years. In my previous career, I visited many care homes and many of my elderly customers have become residents of them. I know the current manager of The Anchorage from my daughter's time in the care sector when they worked together. My daughter holds a very
high opinion of the management of The Anchorage and I share that view.
My brother, who can be uncooperative and downright stubborn, has been a resident since June 2022. He is kept warm, comfortable, well fed and is respected by the staff. Any incident or news about him is communicated to me immediately. After years of constant care provided by my wife and myself, I feel totally confident that he is in the best place and safe. At last, we can relax and enjoy our retirement.
The Anchorage is a welcoming home and I wish all the staff well under its new ownership.

The home looked after my mother so well since she has been a resident.
But more so towards the end of 2023, and the start of this year since her health has deteriorated.
The updates and help with booking wheelchair transport for hospital visits had been above and beyond.

I cannot praise the amazing Anchorage family enough. They have all cared for my dad in such a special way and made his transition from independent living so much easier for him to bear. For us visiting, we have always been made to feel very welcome and included, which for me, in particular, was overpoweringly
amazing. Always there to answer questions, solve problems and give support. A wonderful team giving generously with their time, their care and their love. Thank you.

My mum was a resident in The Anchorage Care Home for six months. She had been treated really well during that time. All carers were kind, attentive and considerate to my mum. They had all taken the time to get to know my mum really well and were always able to answer any questions we asked and we were
always kept informed of any developments or appointments.
As a regular visitor, I was made to feel really welcome by all staff including, amongst others, office staff, activities staff, catering staff, cleaning staff, carers and also the management staff.
The Anchorage is always spotlessly clean and the grounds are beautiful.
I found it really hard to take the decision to place my mum into a care home. However, it is of great consolation to me to know my mum was treated with such kindness and with such amazing care in her last months. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.884)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.884) out of 10 for The Anchorage is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.884 for The Anchorage is calculated as follows: ( (435 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 484 Ratings = 4.884
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Anchorage is based on 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 42 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Through the eyes of a child Programme Leader

Daisy is an 11-year-old community champion who has been visiting The Anchorage care home since she was a toddler. A few years ago, she created Through the Eyes of a Child, a heartfelt initiative designed to capture children’s honest reflections on their experiences of visiting the care home, helping staff and residents see the environment through a child’s perspective.

What began as a simple idea has grown into a meaningful programme that fosters intergenerational connections. Daisy encourages children from local schools to visit the home, building friendships with residents and taking part in activities, events, and outings. She has also developed feedback forms to ensure children’s voices are heard and valued.

Over the past year, Daisy’s compassion and dedication have been widely recognised. She has received a Champions of Care Special Recognition Award from Person Centred Software, the Community Cup from her school for her empathy and service, and the Saxon Weald Local Community Youth Winner Award for her outstanding contribution to the care home and wider community. She is also due to join the PDCCA Volunteer Friends Scheme in the New Year.

Now beginning to share Through the Eyes of a Child with other care homes across the group, Daisy continues to lead with kindness, empathy, and maturity beyond her years, proving that age is no barrier to making a meaningful difference.
