The Anchorage Reviews (114)
The Anchorage has a Review Score of 9.9 (9.923) out of 10, based on 33 reviews in the last 2 years.
Over all time The Anchorage has 114 reviews.
There have been a couple of occasions where communication might have been slightly better in terms of her expectations but, overall, all the staff members have listened to her needs and responded promptly, courteously and kindly.
Thank you very much for your honest review. Any feedback to our teams is very much appreciated. Communication is key and we will ensure that this feedback helps us improve our service.
I found the home to be a great place. I was looked after very well by the excellent staff, who are very caring.
The activities programme is varied and well set up and does help to make the time pass well. There is a mix of physical and fun activities to suit all.
The home is well-managed which gave my family confidence I was being well treated. I always felt safe.
There is a good spirit in the home with a lot of laughter.
I am now home and doing well thanks to the time I spent at the home but I do miss my ‘Anchorage friends’.
Thank you so much for your review. So pleased that you had a safe and pleasant stay with us. We are delighted that you are home and doing well since leaving our care. We are always here if you need us in the future.
My brother, who can be uncooperative and downright stubborn, has been a resident since June 2022. He is kept warm, comfortable, well fed and is respected by the staff. Any incident or news about him is communicated to me immediately. After years of constant care provided by my wife and myself, I feel totally confident that he is in the best place and safe. At last, we can relax and enjoy our retirement.
The Anchorage is a welcoming home and I wish all the staff well under its new ownership.
Thank you for your review. Your comments are very much appreciated, and I have passed these onto our teams.
But more so towards the end of 2023, and the start of this year since her health has deteriorated.
The updates and help with booking wheelchair transport for hospital visits had been above and beyond.
Thank you for your lovely comments. We are forever grateful for your all support that you gave all the teams.
My sister received great care whilst at The Anchorage. She had been very well looked after and was very happy there, I am very grateful for the care and attention given to her. The home has always been very responsive and managed to anticipate all her needs, whilst keeping me fully up to speed. I would highly recommend The Anchorage.
Thank you so much for your feedback. we really do appreciate the time that you have taken to leave us a review. We are so pleased that your sister enjoyed her stay with us and hope to welcome her back in the future.
Welcomed by a friendly staff team and given advice about finding a vase for flowers I had brought for my aunt.
Appear to be supportive and caring, in particular the activities manager. Overall, very on point with medical care and liaison with GP. My mother feels safe and well cared for and has a better quality of life for being at The Anchorage.
I cannot praise the amazing Anchorage family enough. They have all cared for my dad in such a special way and made his transition from independent living so much easier for him to bear. For us visiting, we have always been made to feel very welcome and included, which for me, in particular, was overpoweringly amazing. Always there to answer questions, solve problems and give support. A wonderful team giving generously with their time, their care and their love. Thank you.
My review can be summarised by my ratings. In short, if/when I have to enter a care home, I would be content with The Anchorage.
As a regular visitor, I was made to feel really welcome by all staff including, amongst others, office staff, activities staff, catering staff, cleaning staff, carers and also the management staff.
The Anchorage is always spotlessly clean and the grounds are beautiful.
I found it really hard to take the decision to place my mum into a care home. However, it is of great consolation to me to know my mum was treated with such kindness and with such amazing care in her last months. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home.
Went above and beyond helping my mother whilst deteriorating in old age.
The Anchorage grounds and whole environment are pleasant and relaxing for residents and visitors.
The team have excelled themselves in dealing with Covid. They have worked really hard in keeping the residents engaged and as well as safe and well, and we have always been kept informed as to what is happening.
We are absolutely confident in the way she is looked after, and she is very happy at The Anchorage.
Under very difficult conditions due to Covid-19 regulations and concerns, all of the members of staff at The Anchorage continue to give the best possible quality of care. This care is given with good humour and kindness. I am also grateful for the open and regular communication we receive - we have been kept fully informed on testing, vaccination etc.
In summary, I cannot speak highly enough of the care my mother has received, and the huge efforts that have been made to keep up the morale of the residents when their families were unable to visit.
I am constantly surprised by the care and concern shown to my mother by the staff at The Anchorage. They try so hard to ensure she has everything she needs, and are gentle and encouraging to her. They unfailingly keep me in the loop when there are changes I need to know about. All in all, it was a happy day for both my mother and me when she joined The Anchorage family.
The staff are so kind and understanding, nothing is too much trouble.
Excellent communication from the management team to residents and family members.
My father speaks very highly of all the team.
The past year has been a very challenging time for everyone, but the resident's health and safety have always come first.
A Covid free and safe environment with delightful staff, friendly, respectful of privacy and dignified, cheerful and personable people, carers, cleaners, odd jab man/gardener. Everyone is so polite and considerate, understanding and very careful when I had to be in isolation when first admitted.
Nothing too much trouble.
Accommodation and food are excellent.
Treated with dignity.
The Anchorage care home is a really lovely place for my father to now be living. All of the staff and carers do a truly fantastic job looking after everyone, especially during the current pandemic we find ourselves in! I am very happy with my father's care at The Anchorage.
My 97 year old Mum has been at The Anchorage since September 2020 during which time she has received exemplary care. The staff are always cheerful and nothing seems to be too much trouble. The home has managed the added challenges of the COVID pandemic in a very professional manner with the safety of their residents as their primary concern. I am kept informed on any medical concerns and interventions; they are very proactive to get professional input where deemed necessary. The overall environment is very pleasant with the grounds well cared for. Mum is very comfortable at the home and I have peace of mind that she is being well cared for.
The only criticism would be the food. Although this would never likely match the 'home cooking' that the older residents would always have been used to. Otherwise really first-class - well done! March 2020 to date their handling of COVID-19 has been exemplary.

Meet the Team (11)

Sam began her career in care at the age of 18 in a nursing home in Petersfield, where she discovered just how rewarding it is to make a genuine difference in people’s lives. Since then, she has built extensive experience across a wide range of care settings, including nursing, residential, mental health, domiciliary, and private care. Each role has shaped her skills, knowledge, and passion for delivering high-quality, compassionate care.
Although Sam explored other career paths when her children were younger, her heart always led her back to care. She believes in investing not only in residents, but in their extended families too, building strong, lasting relationships that continue long after people move on.
As Manager at The Anchorage, Sam is proud to lead a dedicated team and to help create a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment where residents feel valued, and families feel included and reassured.
Known for her positivity, Sam often shares her three guiding principles: you only know what you know; communication is key; and there is a solution to everything. She feels truly honoured to be part of The Anchorage and is passionate about making a difference every single day.

Kim began her career in care over 40 years ago and has recently been promoted to Deputy Care Manager at The Anchorage. With a lifelong passion for dementia care and supporting the elderly, she brings an exceptional depth of experience and compassion to her role.
Throughout her career, Kim has worked across many areas of the care field, including domiciliary care, live-in care, and both nursing and residential settings. Her dedication and extensive knowledge make her an invaluable member of our team at The Anchorage. She is especially committed to making a real difference in people’s lives every day.
Outside of work, Kim loves spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. She also enjoys relaxing with a good TV show, listening to music, and taking peaceful walks in the countryside.

Rosen, affectionately known as Ross by all our residents at The Anchorage, has been a valued member of the team since 2007. With an incredible knowledge of the home and how it runs, Ross can fix, mend, or make just about anything, making him truly the heart of our home. Admired and respected by all, Ross brings warmth and reliability to everything he does. He enjoys every aspect of his role and is often seen taking residents on mini-bus outings, which have a hugely positive impact on their emotional and mental wellbeing.

Karen’s career has always centred around Customer Care; nothing is more rewarding to her than ensuring people feel truly valued and supported. With over 20 years of experience as an Office Manager, she has developed the confidence and communication skills to navigate even the most challenging situations with professionalism and empathy.
A devoted animal lover, especially of dogs and cats, Karen shares her home with Milo, her very affectionate (and undeniably handsome) cat who never misses a chance to remind her of it. She has also shared the last 16 wonderful years with her partner, Kevin. The two first met during her time working as Cabin Crew at Gatwick Airport, a role that revealed just how much she enjoys connecting with people from all walks of life.
Outside of work, Karen can most often be found at Boot sales or Antique fairs. Together, she and Kevin love camping, walking, or bird spotting in Pulborough Brooks whenever the opportunity arises. They also enjoy a touch of nostalgia: one of her closest friends hosts regular 80s nights, and dressing up for her favourite era is something Karen looks forward to every time.

Jon has been in the catering industry for 47 years, with extensive experience working in hotels and restaurants. He held an AA Rosette for 20 years and trained at the catering college in Exeter.
Outside of work, Jon still has a deep passion for cooking and particularly enjoys preparing fish dishes.

Karen is our Housekeeping Supervisor, having progressed into this role after gaining valuable experience within the housekeeping team. She is always cheerful and engages warmly with both residents and team members, creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
Outside of work, Karen is a proud mother of two and enjoys spending her free time walking with her family. She is also a passionate animal lover.

As Customer Liaison Manager, I support families in one of the most important decisions they’ll ever make, finding the right home for their loved ones. I guide and support each care enquiry with compassion and professionalism, ensuring every family feels heard, informed, and confident in their choices.
In addition to my work with families, I also oversee our marketing and advertising, helping to showcase the heart of our homes and the care we provide. I’m a people person at heart, and I’m proud to be part of a business that shares my core belief: life does not end with a dementia diagnosis. Our homes are places to continue living with dignity, joy, and purpose.
Dedicated and deeply passionate, I’m here to help, no question is ever too much.

Daisy is an 11-year-old community champion who has been visiting The Anchorage care home since she was a toddler. A few years ago, she created Through the Eyes of a Child, a heartfelt initiative designed to capture children’s honest reflections on their experiences of visiting the care home, helping staff and residents see the environment through a child’s perspective.
What began as a simple idea has grown into a meaningful programme that fosters intergenerational connections. Daisy encourages children from local schools to visit the home, building friendships with residents and taking part in activities, events, and outings. She has also developed feedback forms to ensure children’s voices are heard and valued.
Over the past year, Daisy’s compassion and dedication have been widely recognised. She has received a Champions of Care Special Recognition Award from Person Centred Software, the Community Cup from her school for her empathy and service, and the Saxon Weald Local Community Youth Winner Award for her outstanding contribution to the care home and wider community. She is also due to join the PDCCA Volunteer Friends Scheme in the New Year.
Now beginning to share Through the Eyes of a Child with other care homes across the group, Daisy continues to lead with kindness, empathy, and maturity beyond her years, proving that age is no barrier to making a meaningful difference.
