My mum was a resident in Burleys Wood for almost five and a half years, and in that time I found all the staff there to be kind, friendly and very attentive to my mother. They treated me with compassion and kindness and I cannot speak highly enough about them. Thank you everyone at Burleys Wood.

Our experience at Burleys Wood was all we could have asked for. My husband's stay was not for long but the dedicated staff were not only medically efficient but gently, caring, helpful and above all very understanding to not only their patient but to me and my family. We cannot thank them enough for
absolutely everything they did to help us. We will be forever grateful. Our heartfelt thanks to every one of you.

Dad only had two weeks at Burleys Wood but we couldn't have asked for better end of life care. It made his passing a lot easier than it could have been. The staff are amazing and couldn't fault them. We wished he had been sent there earlier as it would have given us peace of mind.

My mum has been a resident for 4 years now and is looked after so kindly by all the staff. I get regular phone calls with care updates, and always have a laugh and friendly chat with whichever team leader rings me. I feel very relieved knowing my mum is safe, loved, and well cared for at Burleys Wood.

Due to the fact that I live in North Norfolk, my contact with the home has mostly been by telephone. My wife and I did visit the home in September 2020. But the visits were restricted due to Covid-19 rules. We found the staff most helpful and courteous with my sister-in-law. She confirmed that all staff
members were kind, caring, thoughtful and very much concerned about her wellbeing. I telephone my sister-in-law at least 5 times per week and she constantly assured me she is happy, looked after, enjoys her meal and thinks the world of the staff.

We, as a family, are happy with the care and support given. Times are particularly hard, but covid safety measures are in place, and we feel happy everything is being done well to keep him safe. We always receive calls regarding any problems that are being actioned e,g fall or doctor visits.

Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions, I have not been inside the home. However, I have been fortunate enough to see my parents every 4 weeks for half an hour my sister sees them on alternative visits I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. My parents have settled in really well.
They are well looked after and enjoy the food and know that they are safe especially as they are being tested on a regular basis.

Dad was sent to Burleys Wood for rehabilitation and assessment after the death of our mum and a long stay in hospital. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we have had limited contact but the attention to the safety of the residents and staff is to be commended. When we phone the staff are always willing to
update us regarding Dad's health and welfare and we have had video chats with him and a short visit. They also sent us a lovely photo. They have worked hard to encourage him to socialise and join in activities and are very attentive to his needs. He looks so well and so happy, such a lovely change to see. We only wish he could stay.

From the very beginning, my friend was made very welcome by all the staff. They were very warm and caring to him as they were all the residents, which was lovely to see. He always enjoys his food very much. This is a very well run home by the managers. Personal care and attentiveness to all residents
was exceptional. I have been to many homes in my time, but this exceeds them all!

Having had 3 separate surgeries to my tibia, fibula and ankle and treatment to my right heel, I needed a Zimmer to assist getting around. Glaucoma - inherited in both eyes but very successfully controlled at the hospital. I can say, thank you all so much for all the support and care at Burley's Wood.

Burleys Wood is such a special place.
The staff are so caring and kind attending to everyone's needs.
My mother spent 6 weeks rehab there and they worked so hard to get her mobile again.
We have such fond memories. Mum was cared for so well.

The staff are friendly. Care is good.
Was a few problems at first but all sorted now.
Food seems good for the residents.
Rooms could be cleaned better and bedding could be cleaner and more comfortable, not so thin bedding. Sheets could be better.

My husband was in Burleys Wood for several weeks after being in hospital until a care package could be arranged.
He was given physio and encouraged to walk to the day room and join in.
The staff were all very attentive, kind and caring and the team leaders and managers were very helpful in arranging
hospital transport for appointments and dealing with any problems and needs.
I felt confident that he was being cared for very well.

I was dubious about coming to a care home for rehab but when I arrived it was much better than I expected.

I cannot say how grateful my family are that my dad received such great care and attention from all the staff at Burleys Wood. My dad was treated as an individual and nothing was ever too much trouble. We were so worried that my dad was going into a home soon after the first few days it was obvious
we didn't need to worry! Keep up the good work Burleys Wood you've certainly changed my perception of care homes!

My mother, passed away last Saturday. She had been a resident since March. During that time we noticed a real improvement in her health and well-being. She expressed how happy she was at Burleys Wood and she enjoyed being part of a community who were friendly and welcoming to all. We could not find
fault with any member of staff who was extremely efficient, caring and generous of their time. We enjoyed visiting her and we count ourselves lucky that my mother managed to find such a warm environment to spend her last few months. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.565)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.565) out of 10 for Burleys Wood is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.665 for Burleys Wood is calculated as follows: ( (154 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 194 Ratings = 4.665
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Burleys Wood is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Emma

Emma Peachey

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2008

Emma became part of team Burleys when the doors first opened in 2008. She began by working as a night support worker, this fitted well around family life, over the years progressing to Team Leader and then in 2019 Emma was promoted to her current role of Deputy Manager.

Emma has worked in the care sector since leaving College at 17, working for 2 years in a privately-run nursing home in Reigate. Emma then worked for the London Borough of Sutton for 11 years in a specialist dementia home, only leaving when relocating with her young family to Crawley. Originally working for a domiciliary care company, providing support to service users in their own homes.

Emma really enjoys being able to make a difference every single day, supporting residents and staff. It is lovely to see the care staff support the residents with their independence and encouragement, always promoting new skills. Emma loves coming to work, she feels privileged to work in a place that is happy to be in, where the residents receive a high standard of care from an amazing staff team.

In total, Emma has worked for 26 years in the care sector but, has never worked throughout a health Pandemic until 2020 Emma commented: “I am very proud of the team who work here at Burleys Wood. Throughout the Pandemic, we have continued to provide high-quality care to our residents.

During very anxious times, we have pulled together and made sure the residents were always well looked after. We found some new ways of working and new ways of supporting each other - residents, relatives, staff and health professionals.”

Corah

Corah Clarke

Job Title: Nurse Joined: 2019

Having trained as a nurse 15 years ago, Corah joined the team at Burleys Wood in July 2019. She remembered, I chose nursing as my career because I love to care for those who cannot care for themselves, that’s my passion. Corah’s passion for care, meaning she very quickly fitted into the team at Burleys Wood.

When on shift, Corah manages the nursing floor making sure residents are safe and well cared for. Corah leads a team well and she also spends time each week speaking with local health professionals. Corah speaks with families to show support on a regular basis keeping them in the loop on their loved ones needs. Seeing a smile on a residents face makes everything worthwhile that’s when you know you are doing your job right.

The recent pandemic has taught Corah how important family is. Family is not just your immediate family but, the people you spend time with every day and the people you care for. When the residents’ families were missing physically, there were always phone calls, video calls, post cards, letters etc.

These simple but, physical interactions on a daily basis really helped residents feel less stressful during that time, they enjoy that. This is a good coping management during the pandemic and I am glad that I was a part of that. That too is a part of fulfilling my role. Anxiety can rise, however we pull through as a team.
