I cannot begin to say how much I value the wonderful attention my mother has received whilst being a resident at Church Farm Care Home. It has been exemplary with such care and attention by all members of staff.
The manager, who my mum calls Matron, and every single one of her team go the extra mile to ensure that the residents and their families are looked after and kept informed at all times with the matters at the home.
Nothing is too much trouble and even with all the problems that Covid 19 has wrought against the well running of the home and the staff that have caught the virus, they all seem to stay upbeat and cheerful. It must be tough for the staff but they carry out their duties with a smile on their faces.

Well done and a massive thank you to every one of you.

In August 2020, Mum went into Church Farm for short-term respite care. She picked up and went home but had to return again following a downward turn. She tried another spell at home but following a fall and being unable to care for herself, even with carers three times a day, she went back to Church Farm at the end of September. She is there still and I think she will remain there now as the care provided to her has ensured that she is eating and drinking properly, taking her medication and has company all day. She loves the girls and the food and of course, the dogs and cats. When asked, she always wants to go home but "Not yet. Not til I'm better". I think that says a lot. The only problem we have is talking to Mum on the phone. The signal is not great so we are trying to get her a mobile phone she can use. The girls are lovely on the phone and always answer any questions I have if they can. Covid has been so hard so not being able to visit is really sad but that is no one's fault.

The staff are always helpful. They are going the extra mile to ensure residents can be visited safely. My mother does not need a lot of attention and is left to her own devices, but can call anyone to help with anything! Subtitles on the TV for instance - easily sorted. Crossword brought daily. Generally, I know she is safe and being looked after.

Dad only recently moved in permanently to Church Farm Care Home but he has settled in extremely well. We are very happy with the overall quality of the facility, including meals etc. The staff have been lovely and very helpful, despite the Covid-19 restrictions. Overall we are so far happy with the standard of care, although due to Covid-19 it has not been possible to review the room that Dad is occupying.

I can't thank the staff and carers at Church Farm Care Home enough for the care and love they have given my mother since she became a resident. Their care and dedication to my mother's well being both mentally and physically is second to none. In recent months, under extremely difficult circumstances, they have continued and even exceeded their always high level of care. At present we have a situation that is distressing for everyone concerned but I take great comfort in knowing that my mother is in the very best hands and place possible and I would like to say big thank you to everyone at Church Farm for looking after my mother.

Unfortunate about all the pandemic paraphernalia restricting 'open' visiting. All measures, however, are in place and Coronavirus wouldn't dare show up at Church Farm Care Home, Wittering. Staff are very much adhering to protective protocols across the board. Well done. Thank you for looking after my neighbour.

The staff are all brilliant and very caring. Mum seems very happy here and I have confidence that she is safe and well cared for. I do think that the place could do with a good renovation as it's quite tatty in places.

My father-in-law commenced his stay at Church Farm in October 2019 and was very happy there. Each member of staff who dealt with him was very kind and caring, and my husband and I could not have wished for better care for him.
There is a very full programme of activities going on at the home, including crafts, films, exercise classes, musical events, food and drinks tastings. The food always looked wholesome and well-presented.
The rooms and communal areas are bright and well maintained, and the building lies in a rural setting, but close to the local village and main roads.

All in all, we are pleased that our father/father-in-law was able to be cared for at Church Farm Care Home.

My mother-in-law was recommended to come to Church Farm by her excellent social worker after a fall and we could not be more delighted with the care that she is now receiving. From the start the welcome has been so warm, we, that is her son and I would particularly like to say thank you to the receptionist who gives just the warmest of greetings at the front door where we have seen a number of residents come as they so enjoy her company, she is a real asset and adds to the homeliness that is created alongside a group of excellent carers. (Thank you one of the senior carers especially) and mum absolutely loves the food so thank you chefs (best pastry mum reports) and the home is always spotlessly clean, thank you everyone and the activities are really enjoyed by mum who doesn’t usually mix to easily but with the carers encouragement has really enjoyed these enormously! So we cannot say how delighted we have been with the care that is being delivered, a huge thank you to each and every one of the team.

My mother first went to Church Farm ten years ago after a bad fall; she was very well looked after and felt immediately at home. After several subsequent visits for recuperation, her final stay began 18 months ago. Her facilities were all failing but the staff continued to treat her with respect, humour and fondness. She felt valued and cared for until her death in August.

Karen Rothwell
Karen RothwellJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2024

My name is Karen and I am the home manager at Church Farm.

I was born in Sheffield and knew from the age of 15 when I used to visit a local care home that I wanted to work with older adults. At 16, I joined the care home team and was fortunate enough to spend a few years with that particular organisation working in Mississippi, USA.

After marrying my husband, I had three children - two boys and one girl. Whilst my daughter was young, I attended college to gain my qualifications as I knew I would be returning to care later in my life. During this time, we had moved to Portsmouth to support our son as he had joined the Navy.

Over the next few years, I supported my husband in public houses and hotels around the country.

In 2002 I returned to care and was fortunate to secure a position as an assistant unit manager with Hampshire County Council where I spent 23 years honing my skills while progressing to operations manager, deputy manager and then registered manager in Denmead where I spent 7 years.

I joined Church Farm in 2024 and love the home from home atmosphere. I always strive to ensure all the residents receive the best possible care and feel safe and secure.

Outside of work I love spending time with my 5 grandchildren, who keep me busy and active. To relax I go to the Norfolk Broads where my husband and I have a boat called the Christine Ann, named after my mom. I love seeing all the wildlife and wildflowers and meandering along the rivers.

I live not too far away from Church Farm with my husband, daughter, son in law, granddaughter and two dogs, along with blended family at weekends. It can feel a bit like the Waltons but for me that’s what life is about, good times with family and friends making lots of memories and a job that I love.

Hello! My Name is Anu Yohannan, and I am a Senior Care Assistant at Church Farm Care Home. I have worked for Bupa since June 2022, and I joined the team on a Sponsorship Visa.

I was born in India and studied as a nurse. I chose to train as a nurse as my mother had been one and I saw how much enjoyment she got from her job.

I love my role here and being involved with the residents makes me happy. It was always my dream to come and work in the United Kingdom and I am so grateful for the opportunities offered to me by Bupa.

I have been incredibly lucky that my husband has also been able to come to the UK and was offered a position here at Church Farm as well.

Warren Brewer

Hello! My name is Warren Brewer, and I am the cook at Church Farm Care Home. I started working for Bupa in 2013.

I have worked as a host and a kitchen assistant and I have now progressed to my current role as a chef.

I applied for the job at Church Farm as my mum (and other members of my family) worked in care and suggested that because of my caring nature, this environment would suit me.

I love my role and enjoy making a positive difference in people’s lives. Every day I learn something new and look forward to hearing stories/life experiences from our residents.

Kimba
Kimba Job Title:Home CatJoined: 2021

Hello! My name is Kimba, and I am a black and white long-haired cat who lives at Church Farm. I was adopted by Church Farm after my owner sadly passed away in 2021. I spend most of my day on the sunniest windowsill or on top of a wardrobe ready to jump and land on unsuspecting carers.

My favourite hobby is eating and having lots of cuddles (oh and naps!).

Recently I have taken up my new role as the home administrator’s assistant and make sure her desk is ALWAYS clear so I can lay across it.

I live in the Marine Lounge so I am close to where the food lives, and I can get plenty of attention from EVERYONE who passes by.

Alfie
Alfie Job Title:Home CatJoined: 2022

Hello! My name is Alfie, and I am a black and white short-haired cat with green eyes. I was adopted by Church Farm after my owner passed away in 2022. My owner had previously worked as a hairdresser here at Church Farm before she came to live here permanently. Recently I have adopted a resident and I make sure he knows exactly when it is lunchtime! We have developed a special friendship, and both enjoy each other’s company. I live in the middle corridor off of the dining room so I can sneak extra treats!

You will usually find me outside or cuddled up with the resident I have adopted.
