Mum and dad moved into Church Farm in March 2018. We viewed a number of care homes prior to choosing Church Farm. I have been totally surprised by the excellent care provided, it's not just about care it's everything else as well, the condition of the accommodation, activities, variety of meals and last but not least the wonderful team. All the team. Can't recommend Church Farm enough well done and thank you to everyone.

On Saturday 21st, all the residents and families were treated to an amazing afternoon of fun activities. The dining rooms were so well decorated with flats, cut-outs of the Queen as well and her corgis. After drinks and a superb buffet lunch, we all went outside for a doggy competition. There was even a bouncy castle for the kids. They really must be congratulated for their time and effort spent.

Good variety of food (menus) from the kitchen. Kitchen staff are always helpful and will usually get you what you want. The care staff are available fairly promptly when called and are attentive. Home is warm in winter and the surroundings attractive. Social activities are varied and something on most days.

The manager and her staff made my mum's stay at Church Farm just like being at home or as my mum would have said, a 5-star hotel! Every need and whim was catered for! From bubble baths to designing table mats for Valentine's Day, mum was made to feel loved and cherished by all the staff. An excellent care home. Thank you to everyone who looked after my mum.

My mother-in-law moved into Church Farm at very short notice. The first few weeks she was very unsettled and wanted to return to her home which was distressing for all of us. But with the excellent care she has been given and the kindness of all the staff along with having people around her all day, she is now happy and moving back to her home is a thing of the past, she now calls Church Farm her home.

Since moving in, we have noticed a marked improvement in her mobility and general health, she is getting three healthy meals a day, has plenty of people to talk to and several afternoons a week there is some sort of entertainment most of which she really enjoys. Life has changed for the better for my mother-in-law since she moved into Church Farm and it is reassuring to see her being looked after so well.

My sister and I cannot thank all the staff at Church Farm enough for the absolutely wonderful care and support which they gave our mother over the last twenty years and at the end of her life.

Their dedication, kindness and patience was simply outstanding.

As soon as my mum arrived at Church Farm (23/12/13), the staff demonstrated a very welcoming and caring approach. This was consistent until mum passed away on 31/5/17 - I had tremendous peace of mind and trust in the care given.

The ambience of the care home is pleasant and relaxingly calm. I have not yet ventured out into the gardens but, from what I have seen from the windows, they look as though they will be very attractive when summer arrives.
This is my first long-term stay in a care home and would find it difficult to assess any competitive home. I could not imagine how Chapel Farm could be improved, given that, it must be operating discretely under financial restraint.
Staffing levels might cause some problems but there is no sign of these from this resident's view point. Likewise, catering and menu planning are not apparent. The problem area is time taken in serving meals. This could be eased by reducing the multiple choices on offer, or in serving those having personal choices after those who are accepting the preselected main items.

I suggest that more showering facilities be installed. There does, at present, seem to be insufficient for the demand.

I have found Church Farm Care Home to be a very supportive care home, not only to my mother but to all of my family, having been through a very emotional time we all really needed the support. The staff are all very professional but so willing to talk whenever I visit which is most days. The home is so clean and there seems to be a great rapport between staff and residents, I cannot thank everyone there enough for looking after my mother and doing it all in such a warm and respectful way.

We have a long association with Church Farm Care Home, dating back to 1988. We felt that it was a "home away from home" for our sister since it offered beautiful accommodation in a setting reminiscent of our own home. The sitting and dining rooms and even the halls were full of warmth and nicely furnished and decorated and the bedroom offered all the amenities one could wish for, including private bathroom and individual access to the private walled garden in the back.

The staff coverage is excellent and available 24/7. They are all very professional but at the same time show compassion and caring for their residents, going out of their way to provide whatever is requested. Management really cares for the well-being of their residents and arranges many social activities and outings during the year. A small thing my sister really appreciates is her hot ovaltine and biscuits at bedtime every night! I can recommend Church Farm Residential Home very highly and most warmly indeed.

Mum has been a resident since May 2016, life at Church Farm really suits her she has re-invented herself since moving there. Having been widowed since 2010 with failing health she had become a recluse in her own home, and the isolation was dragging her downhill, very little interaction with people and not eating properly etc.
She is now first up and last to bed, looking after other residents (she used to be a nurse on a geriatric ward). The Home and staff are really brilliant, always greet her with a smile and a joke. there are activities every morning and afternoon on weekdays. Just like another review says they pulled out all of the stops for her 91st Birthday in January. Christmas was fantastic with a great "White Christmas" show. When visiting I am always greeted by friendly staff, who always offer me refreshments. The management team and seniors always make time to discuss mum or just have a chat.

I have every faith in my mum's safety and wellbeing at Church Farm.

Church Farm Care Home has been so supportive enabling my mother the respite care we both needed. The reassurance of having staff about 24/7 was what was needed. The staff were all very positive and friendly providing a lovely atmosphere. The room was very pleasant and well maintained. The catering was good and flexible encouraging my mother to regain her appetite.

As soon as I arrived I was treated with kindness, courtesy, and respect. Never did I see a cross face or hear an angry word. Always with kindness, everything was given particularly when I first arrived and really feeling ill. The attention and care given was phenomenal over and above the care of duty. From personal care to coaxing my appetite back with delicious nibbles. A home from home. Highly recommended and in the most delightful surroundings.

After meeting the manager and the Church Farm team back in January I knew I'd found the perfect place for Mum. I'd visited several other homes in the area but knew after being there for just 30 mins that this was "the one". It exceeded all expectation in as much as they not only cared superbly for Mum but they made my life so easier purely by having the assurance that they had everything in hand.

Unfortunately Mum's care and mental needs have changed considerably over the past few months so were currently in the process of trying to somewhere suitable, the trouble is there aren't many out there that have the same welcoming feeling as Church Farm. It's just a shame Mum couldn't enjoy life there a bit longer because you couldn't wish for somewhere better to look after your loved one that's for sure.

I cannot praise Church Farm enough. Its always hard to see a loved one/friend having to go into care but the nurses, carers and all else involved have been so supportive to my lovely lady since being here. Such a comforting feeling knowing she is being looked after and cared for the way she is. They cater for the way she is. They cater for the individual needs which again is comforting to know. Happy friendly smiley faces and seeing my dear friend is content is the main aim. So thank you all. x

Karen Rothwell
Karen RothwellJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2024

My name is Karen and I am the home manager at Church Farm.

I was born in Sheffield and knew from the age of 15 when I used to visit a local care home that I wanted to work with older adults. At 16, I joined the care home team and was fortunate enough to spend a few years with that particular organisation working in Mississippi, USA.

After marrying my husband, I had three children - two boys and one girl. Whilst my daughter was young, I attended college to gain my qualifications as I knew I would be returning to care later in my life. During this time, we had moved to Portsmouth to support our son as he had joined the Navy.

Over the next few years, I supported my husband in public houses and hotels around the country.

In 2002 I returned to care and was fortunate to secure a position as an assistant unit manager with Hampshire County Council where I spent 23 years honing my skills while progressing to operations manager, deputy manager and then registered manager in Denmead where I spent 7 years.

I joined Church Farm in 2024 and love the home from home atmosphere. I always strive to ensure all the residents receive the best possible care and feel safe and secure.

Outside of work I love spending time with my 5 grandchildren, who keep me busy and active. To relax I go to the Norfolk Broads where my husband and I have a boat called the Christine Ann, named after my mom. I love seeing all the wildlife and wildflowers and meandering along the rivers.

I live not too far away from Church Farm with my husband, daughter, son in law, granddaughter and two dogs, along with blended family at weekends. It can feel a bit like the Waltons but for me that’s what life is about, good times with family and friends making lots of memories and a job that I love.

Hello! My Name is Anu Yohannan, and I am a Senior Care Assistant at Church Farm Care Home. I have worked for Bupa since June 2022, and I joined the team on a Sponsorship Visa.

I was born in India and studied as a nurse. I chose to train as a nurse as my mother had been one and I saw how much enjoyment she got from her job.

I love my role here and being involved with the residents makes me happy. It was always my dream to come and work in the United Kingdom and I am so grateful for the opportunities offered to me by Bupa.

I have been incredibly lucky that my husband has also been able to come to the UK and was offered a position here at Church Farm as well.

Warren Brewer
Warren BrewerJob Title:ChefJoined: 2013

Hello! My name is Warren Brewer, and I am the cook at Church Farm Care Home. I started working for Bupa in 2013.

I have worked as a host and a kitchen assistant and I have now progressed to my current role as a chef.

I applied for the job at Church Farm as my mum (and other members of my family) worked in care and suggested that because of my caring nature, this environment would suit me.

I love my role and enjoy making a positive difference in people’s lives. Every day I learn something new and look forward to hearing stories/life experiences from our residents.

Kimba
Kimba Job Title:Home CatJoined: 2021

Hello! My name is Kimba, and I am a black and white long-haired cat who lives at Church Farm. I was adopted by Church Farm after my owner sadly passed away in 2021. I spend most of my day on the sunniest windowsill or on top of a wardrobe ready to jump and land on unsuspecting carers.

My favourite hobby is eating and having lots of cuddles (oh and naps!).

Recently I have taken up my new role as the home administrator’s assistant and make sure her desk is ALWAYS clear so I can lay across it.

I live in the Marine Lounge so I am close to where the food lives, and I can get plenty of attention from EVERYONE who passes by.

Alfie
Alfie Job Title:Home CatJoined: 2022

Hello! My name is Alfie, and I am a black and white short-haired cat with green eyes. I was adopted by Church Farm after my owner passed away in 2022. My owner had previously worked as a hairdresser here at Church Farm before she came to live here permanently. Recently I have adopted a resident and I make sure he knows exactly when it is lunchtime! We have developed a special friendship, and both enjoy each other’s company. I live in the middle corridor off of the dining room so I can sneak extra treats!

You will usually find me outside or cuddled up with the resident I have adopted.
