Overview

The Review Score of 6.6 (maximum of 10) for Kensington Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Kensington Lodge in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 1.9 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 2 years. (A 2 year period has been used as there were no positive reviews in the last 12 months)

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.736 for Kensington Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (53 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.736

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 1.903 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kensington Lodge is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 = 3.25 then divided by 2 = 1.625

    2. Target of 3.6 positive Reviews (18 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 3.6 Target = 0.556 , then divided by 2 = 0.278

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Mum was in Kensington Lodge for 2 years and felt settled and "at home". She was able to indulge in her love of singing and dancing due to the entertainments provided. The staff always treated her and the other residents with good care, respect and a great deal of tolerance which is essential when people have Alzheimer's/dementia. Kensington Lodge is not one of those large impersonal care homes and all staff are very welcoming to residents families and visitors.

Dear Christine, we at Kensington Lodge thank you for your kind words and I know your review will be good news to Pauline and all the team

My mother became a resident at Kensington Lodge in January 2015. Whilst I was sad to have to place her in a 'home' I was impressed with the friendliness and warmth of the staff straight away. Her room is a very welcoming room too. She took a while to settle at first but in the time she has been there she has settled into a routine and all her needs both physical and mental have been dealt with in a kind, caring and very professional manner. The home has had a change of management during her time as a resident and I am delighted to say the already excellent care has improved and the various changes to the surroundings have improved the overall already good standard too. As a relative, I have been kept fully informed of my mother's daily care and am always made to feel very welcome on any visits. I know that my mother is safe and well cared for which gives us as a family the peace of mind we so badly needed nearly two years ago. Thank you to all the staff at Kensington Lodge.

On behalf of Everyone at Apex Healthcare, we thank you for taking the time to write this review and we appreciate your positive and kind words.

My mother lived at Kensington Lodge for the past four years. As soon as I first walked in, I knew it was the right place for her. There is a lovely homely feel. The other residents all looked well dressed and happy. My mother never once asked to go home. She was always content and had a smile on her face. The staff became friends. A more caring team you'd be pushed to find. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them so often you hear the bad experiences in the media not the many exceptional places like Kensington Lodge.

Thank you for your positive words they are appreciated by us all here at Apexhealthcare

Kensington Lodge looked after my mother with the utmost care and dignity during her stay there(nearly 2 years). The staff were extremely professional, caring and totally understood her needs. The communication between the staff and myself was 100% at all times and I would. Not hesitate to recommend their services and facilities to other parties.

Dear Mr Geenwood, everyone at Kensington Lodge and Apex Healthcare appreciates your kind comments and the time taken to place your review.

I can't fault the service and level of care shown to my mother since she became a resident at Kensington Lodge. She was originally just staying as convalescence after being in hospital for an extended period but once we realised that she wouldn't be able to cope alone at home, we had no hesitation in making it a permanent arrangement. The staff and management treat all residents with dignity and compassion and the overall atmosphere is one of a very happy and settled household.

Jim Muldoon, Operations Manager at Kensington Lodge responded to this review on 16 Oct 2015:

On behalf of the Manager and her team we thank you very much for your review, like myself the team are dedicated to providing the best care possible.

We didnt know what to expect when we first went in all you hear is horror stories but how different it was from that, we were greeted by the manager who was a lovely lady as was her deputy. The home was clean bright and full of happy staff and residents. We just wanted was best for mum who needs round the clock care. We were informed that this could be provided for her but you still have your doubts but there was nothing to doubt mum has the care that she needs. The move to mums new home was hard for her and for us as she had been living with us after the sad loss of her husband, but from the second she arrived she was made to feel welcome by all people there. Every time we visit mum is clean and tidy and extremely well fed. We are always offered a drink and chairs are brought for me to sit on, nothing seems to be too much trouble its better than being at home (don't tell my wife). If you ever thought that care homes were horrible smelly places then this place breaks the mold its like a home from home and I cannot fault it in any way mum has settled in now and when we take her out she cannot wait to get back what more could you ask for,we would highly recommend that you go have a look for yourself you will not be disappointed.
