If I have anything to question would be maybe more outings but I understand this is very difficult with the amount of staff needed .
Thank you for your kind review. We are so sorry for the loss of your father and are honoured to have supported your family during such a difficult time. Your lovely words about our team mean so much and will be shared with them.
My wife came in with a wedding ring (49 years) and left without it! She also suffered a fall which left her with severe facial injuries. Also I note staff spend a lot of time on their phones which means they are not looking after the residents.
Thank you for sharing your concerns with us. We are very sorry to hear about your wife's fall and understand how upsetting this must have been for you both. We take all concerns regarding residents' wellbeing and personal belongings very seriously, and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss these matters with you directly so we can look into them fully.
My husband has been here 2 months and we cannot fault anything. It's a very difficult and emotional time but the staff and their care has been exemplary, so thank you.
Thank you for your kind words. We understand this is a very emotional time, and we are so pleased that your husband has settled in and feels supported. Your appreciation means a great deal to our team, and we will share your lovely feedback with them.
I have always felt very comfortable when visiting the Martlets, all of the staff are very friendly, my grandad seems very happy there and knowing he is being well cared for is a big relief to my Nan.

It's wonderful to know your grandad is happy with us, and that the care he receives brings reassurance and peace of mind to your Nan. We truly appreciate your feedback.
Whilst there offered refreshments and dad was given them to as well as biscuits which he really enjoyed.
His room was really clean and tidy also.
Thank you for your lovely review. We're delighted to hear that you felt welcomed and that our team helped make your visit with your father comfortable and enjoyable. It's wonderful to know he enjoyed the refreshments and biscuits, and that his room was clean and tidy. We really appreciate your kind feedback.
I was given a tour by Hayley, who was excellent and very knowledgeable, she took her time to answer all of my questions and there were a lot.
All of the carers have been very helpful, friendly and professional, going out of their way to get to know my father's likes and dislikes, making him feel welcomed and helping him settle in.
He has been in the Martlets for about five weeks and is very happy. I would highly recommend this care home, I can not thank and praise them enough
Thank you for your kind review. We're delighted to hear that your experience at The Martlets has been so positive and that your father has settled in well. It's wonderful to know our team, including Hayley, have been helpful, friendly and attentive. We really appreciate your recommendation.
After working in the care sector of the NHS for over 20 years, I am no stranger to the horror stories of care homes. I visited the home with my husband not once but twice at different times of the day. The open door policy says a lot about the home. Hayley the deputy manager did an excellent job providing all of the information and answering all of my questions and I had a lot. We have experienced the Dementia floor and now the Residential floor and can honestly say that the care provided is excellent. All of the Staff on both floors are very diligent making it very comfortable and a better experience for my mother in law. There is a lovely garden that we spend time in visiting, and the staff always bring my mother and father in law tea and biscuits which is always appreciated. The Team leaders I had the most interaction with regarding my father in law have been Christian and Tina, and both have been very open and always dealt promptly and professionally with with any cares or concerns
Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review. Coming from your background in the care sector, your words mean a great deal. We're really pleased to hear that both your mother and father-in-law have been well supported across the Dementia and Residential floors, and that you've...
I find all the staff are very caring, and nothing but helpful, in every way. The staff also seem to bond with one another, which makes for a good atmosphere all round. I cannot praise them enough.
Thank you for your kind review. We are delighted to hear that you find our team caring, helpful and supportive, and that you feel there is a positive atmosphere within the home. Your lovely feedback is greatly appreciated.
I went and looked round this home before my husband went in I was approached by Jo the manager who showed me around I left the home after the tour by Jo and felt very comfortable sending my husband to this home. All of the staff are friendly and professional with dealing with my husband and me I am so happy that I chose the home. Jo is always friendly to talk too and puts you at ease when I have concerns Jo shows me empathy which is what everyone needs.
Thank you for your kind review. We are so pleased you felt comfortable after your visit and confident in choosing the home for your husband. It is lovely to hear that Jo and the team have been friendly, professional and supportive, and that you feel listened to and at ease when raising concerns. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
I would like to give a big shout out to Paige, one of the activities staff, her care and compassion are second to none, she really has helped my Mum, who struggles with in social situations, she has managed to get her to join in activities and took her to the beach, my Mums favourite place, which really made her happy, I cannot praise Paige enough for the time and effort she has put in to make my Mums quality of life so much nicer, I'm very happy that she is being well cared for.
We are delighted to hear how much Paige has helped your mum. Her care and compassion mean a great deal to us, and it is wonderful to know she has encouraged your mum to join in and enjoy such special moments.
Your kind words will be shared with Paige and the team. We are so pleased your mum is happy and well cared for.
My Mum has been going for respite at the Martlets several times a year for nearly 3 years. The staff and management are friendly and professional and there is generally a homely atmosphere, not an institutional one. The building is spacious, light and well cared for. My Mum is welcomed back each time which makes the whole process easier. The management and carers go out of their way to try to meet requests.
Thank you for your lovely review! We're so glad to hear that your mum has had such positive experiences during her respite stays at The Martlets. It's great to know that the friendly and professional staff, along with the homely atmosphere, make her feel welcome each time. We truly appreciate your feedback and are grateful for your continued trust in us!
My mother-in-law is a resident at The Martlets and I can honestly say that this is a wonderful, caring care home. I would definitely recommend this care home as I feel I can totally put my trust in the carers + management staff. The Martletts is a bright, open + spacious care home. The rooms are a good size with an en-suite wet room. The staff give regular updates + are all extremely friendly and supportive.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We're so glad to hear that your mother-in-law is receiving such wonderful care at The Martlets. It means a lot to us that you feel you can trust our team, and we truly appreciate your recommendation. We'll be sure to share your feedback with the staff - thank you again!
Absolutely fantastic care for my mother. Very friendly staff that will do anything to make life easier for both parents and family. Beautiful and airy atmosphere. Congrats to all the staff.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We're delighted to hear that your mother is receiving fantastic care and that our staff have been so supportive. The positive atmosphere you mentioned means a lot to us, and we'll be sure to pass on your congratulations to the team.
My mum has now been in the martlets for a year and over all they have been wonderful. The manager Jess is always very responsive, all the managers, nurses and staff are always friendly and approachable. I understand we may not have been the easiest family / resident to deal with having a lot go on during my mums first year but they have been very accommodating and flexible. Medically not one single emergency or trip to hospital, stark contrast to before my mum came to the home. They have beautiful Xmas decorations up at the moment, they make the effort to make the home look nice which is lovely, overall im very happy with how things have gone over the last year and any grumbles are minor in the grand scheme of things :)
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful feedback. We are thrilled to hear that your mum has settled so well over the past year and that you feel supported by our team. It's wonderful to know she has had a smooth year medically and that you enjoy the festive touches around the home. Your words mean a lot to all of us, and we're so pleased to have been able to support you and your family.
The staff are very kind and mum is looked after well.
Meals are home cooked to a very good standard every day and hot and cold drinks available when requested.
All areas kept very clean.
All wings of the home are secure at all times.
There is a very nice garden surrounding the home which has lots of wildlife visiting.
Mums bedroom is nice and bright facing the garden and has an ensuite bathroom.
Excellent care all round. Mum is very happy here.
Thank you for your thoughtful review! We're so glad to hear that your mum has settled in so well and is happy here. It's great to know she's enjoying her bright, comfortable room and the lovely garden. We're proud to provide a safe, clean, and caring environment for all our residents. Your feedback means a lot to us, and we'll continue to do our best for your mum!
We have always been made welcome by all the staff and treated very well.
The home is a lovely place with plenty of space to move around with different rooms to go.
Everyone has been brillant and I'm sure My Mum has enjoyed her time and been looked after.
It has also given me peace of mind as I didn't know what to expect when we came for the first time.
So I am truely greatful to all the staff.
You do have to keep an eye on clothes items that can get mislade but tend to turn up, But being a 80 bedroom home I think this will always happen, so do make sure you label your items to help the staff.
Once again I'm very greatful for all the help from the home and all the Staff.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We're delighted to hear your mum has felt welcome and well cared for during her respite stays, and that you've had peace of mind throughout. Our team truly appreciates your kind words.
Staff helpful and pleasant. Plenty of food and activities. Enjoys the company and the garden, which is well looked after. Loves the freedom of trips out. Doesn't feel like an old fashioned nursing home. Which is pleasant.
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We're delighted to hear that the food, activities, and garden are enjoyed, and that the home feels welcoming and modern.
I can not fault the staff and management. The staff work very hard to look after the residents the cleanliness is good everybody is very friendly and very helpful.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We're proud of our hardworking team and glad to hear you're happy with the care, cleanliness, and friendly atmosphere here.
Lovely care home. The management and staff really care about the residents and go out of their way to meet my mum's needs and some go above and beyond for her. There are lots of lovely activities available, which mum can choose to take part in if she wants to and trips around the local area.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We're so pleased your mum is enjoying the activities and trips, and that she feels well cared for. Our team always strives to go above and beyond for our residents, and it's lovely to know it makes a difference.
The Martlets is a lovely home - bright, beautifully decorated, and featuring a large garden. The environment is spacious and thoughtfully designed, allowing residents to move about freely and safely. Residents enjoy activities and are taken out, which we really appreciate.
What stands out the most, though, is the people. All the managers and staff are exceptionally friendly, approachable, and professional. Every time we visit, we are made to feel welcome and supported. One staff member said to me, "This is Mum's home"-and that truly sums up how the place feels.
Thank you to everyone at The Martlets for the outstanding care and compassion you have shown to Mum and we would highly recommend The Martlets.
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We're delighted to hear how well your mum has settled and that you feel supported and welcomed when visiting. It means a great deal to the whole team to know their care and compassion are making such a difference.

Meet the Team (10)

I have worked with Shaw Healthcare since 2005. I started my career as a carer and have been lucky enough to be developed into the Service Manager role I hold today. I have worked in many Shaw Healthcare homes across the region and have over 15 years of experience in the care field. I absolutely love my job!
We have an amazing team at The Martlets and we are very proud of our ‘Martlets Family’ culture. The Martlets provides a warm homely environment, with a caring, kind-hearted, compassionate skilled team of staff.
No two days are the same in care, but every day is rewarding in its own way. Seeing smiles on faces, hearing laughter through our home and being able to support people when they need it most is what makes it a pleasure to go to work, each and every day.

My name is Hayley I have worked for Shaw health care since 2007. My first role with Shaw was as a kitchen assistant when I was 17. My next role was as a care assistant when I turned 18.
At 25 I became a team leader and embraced the responsibility and oversaw that my staff promoted the best quality person-centred care for our residents the way we all wish our own loved ones would receive.
At 31 I was given the opportunity to progress further within the company and I now am privileged to be “The Martlets Deputy Manager.” We have a beautiful home here at The Martlets and are lucky to be situated right near the beach.
I am very proud to work at The Martlets we have a fantastic team and there is a wonderful energy about the home. Every day is a joy at The Martlets.

I find the team and residents alike to be fantastic. There is always laughter to be heard and my team and management are always really supportive.
In June 2022 I was nominated for a Shaw Star award in the Wellness, Happiness and Kindness Category and attended the Regional Awards Ceremony.
With Shaw being an employee owned company we as staff have more influence over change and also receive some nice bonuses, which is great!

Hi, my name is Tina. I have worked at The Martlets since 2016. I started as a Support Worker and have now progressed into a Team Leader role. I enjoy being both a Support Worker and a Team Leader and I always feel supported by my colleague and management team. I enjoy coming into work and I feel like I make a difference to our residents lives by supporting their needs daily, which is very rewarding.

I have worked at The Martlets for almost 7 years. I enjoy my job with the best team, management and residents. I love caring for vulnerable people and it makes me smile seeing our residents happy.

I love working at The Martlets because of the residents. They are fantastic, I love being able to support them and we do have a brilliant team.

My name is Emma Thomson I am 32 years old and have worked at The Martlets since 04-May-2011. I was initially recruited twelve years ago for a domestic role and have just received my long service award in June 2022. I now work as an Administrator for The Martlets and love my role and especially the people I get to work with. We have a tremendous team every person in every department deserves recognition for their daily efforts. The Martlets is a happy and safe workplace to be a part of. I am very proud to work here and enjoy every day.

I am Steve, I have come from a predominantly retail background, from flipping burgers to stacking shelves to running my own stores.
After some deliberation and my staff saying that I would be good in care, in May 2016 I took the plunge into the world of care. Filled with trepidation, I started as a care worker at The Martlets and found it to be the most satisfying and rewarding job I have taken on. My favourite part was the ability to put a smile on our resident's faces and empower them to be as independent as possible.
2 years on and I was given the opportunity to become a Team Leader, which includes ensuring the timely administration of medication and liaising with medical professionals, to help promote the health and well-being of our residents.
2022 Presented an opportunity to work in Administration at the front of the house. This has enabled me to learn about the “back end” of care. Finances, Rota Management, Orders, admissions/discharges and most importantly taking relative calls and enquiries, liaising with all the teams of The Martlets to resolve these calls.I am grateful to the current Martlets management for helping me progress within the home and would urge those thinking of working in care to take “The Plunge” just as I did!

I joined the Royal Navy as a chef at 16 years old, I served in the Navy for 11 years. Upon leaving I worked on the railways for 11 years which I eventually gave up due to becoming a full-time career for my late wife which I did for 30 years. Upon my wife’s passing I needed a new challenge and started at The Martlets on the 2nd of May 2023 as the maintenance in The Martlets Care Home.

I started at The Martlets in 2012 as a bank support worker following on from being made redundant as an apprentice hairdresser. From the moment I walked into the building I knew that care was the job for me and within days I applied to become a full-time career.
I loved my role, providing high-quality care to our residents and daily activities. In 2016 I took the plunge to apply for the team leader role that became available within The Martlets.
Becoming a team leader at 23 was a huge achievement for me, I had not long returned from maternity leave and was extremely proud of my achievements within the company.
In 2020 I was given the amazing opportunity of becoming The Martlets Deputy Manager, being part of The Martlets family since 2012 has developed my career in many ways, the knowledge and experience Shaw has given me is incredible. Watching The Martlets grow is an amazing opportunity and I am forever grateful for The Martlets.
