Oakwood Court has been a wonderful home for my mother. My siblings and I visited Mum several times a week and we were always met with a friendly welcome and offered a cup of tea. I know Mum also appreciated the warm and friendly atmosphere at Oakwood. The food was consistently good and as Mum became frailer and less able to look after herself, there was always help at hand. Medical requirements were also met which was so helpful for us who had been handling Mum's meds for the years leading up to her move to Oakwood. Choosing a care home requires a lot of thought but if I was choosing again with the knowledge I now have, I'd definitely pick Oakwood for a second time.

The day my wife first went home, we had a big welcome banner and a goody hamper in the room. She felt at home very quickly, and all the carers were very attentive at all times. The management was always ready to help with any problems. The home was very clean and the food was excellent.

I would highly recommend Oakwood Court Care Home as the care is excellent.

I viewed 11 homes for my 90 year-old mother before choosing Oakwood Court and after nearly a year, I know we made the right choice! The home is run by a housing association and the professionalism shows. It is purpose-built so the bedrooms are roomy and have their own bathrooms. The communal areas are homely but dignified, and everything is spotlessly clean. There is a proper kitchen with fresh meals and homemade cakes every day. The hospitality is great, with regular invites to social events and activities. All the staff at every level have been friendly and welcoming and staff turnover seems low. I'm particularly impressed by the healthcare support. The senior carers communicate regularly with me and respond quickly to any changes or concerns. Since moving in Mum has become less anxious, her eating, hydration and mobility have improved, and she is more confident about joining in and trying new things - so all in all I think Oakwood is doing an amazing job!

One member of staff... an absolute star! Couldn't do enough for Dad. Really helpful with bed issues.
One lady... made Dad happy by getting his tea right... a small thing, but really important.
The administrator... communicates really well and is kind and friendly. Very supportive of the family.

The big room is much nicer.

When Mum went into Oakwood Court a year ago, she was very low. She'd given up with life. In just a few months, with the help and support at Oakwood Court, her spirits raised, and her health improved mentally and physically. The carers are so kind, and every detail of Mum's needs is covered. She's happy now, and our family always feel welcome when we visit.

Clean and tidy home, with caring staff. Residents always look clean and tidy, in-house hairdresser and plenty of organised entertainment and arts and crafts.

My mother has been a resident for three years now, and her room is kept clean and tidy and smells fresh. If she wants to join in with activities, she can, and if she prefers her own company for art, she either uses the main table in the lounge or in her room.

Reply from Lizzie Gurr, Communications and Engagement Officer at Oakwood Court

Thank you for your review, we agree it's important residents have the choice to take part in activities and a good variety, to make sure everyone has something they enjoy and is of interest. It's great your mother loves to continue her art!

Mum had been a resident at Oakwood Court Care home for about six years but sadly passed away in October. I have nothing but admiration for all of the staff at Oakwood Court for the way they looked after Mum during her stay and especially when mum's health deteriorated toward the end of her life. They did an amazing job of keeping mum comfortable and I was always kept informed of Mum's well being during her residency, especially during the Covid lockdown periods where all of the staff went above and beyond keeping everyone safe.
I would not hesitate in recommending Oakwood Court Care home, they are truly amazing.

Thank you.

This would have been my mothers second care home (the first proved incapable in our eyes). Eventually however my mother ended up going to a different area for her care home. Had she stayed in this area we would have chosen Oakwood Court as her home.
When we visited for a tour, and lunch, the staff and setup so far outweighed anything we had experienced previously that my mothers immediate response when we'd left was to ask to book a place on the waiting list.
What sold it to us? Purpose-built is without a doubt what's needed for someone in need of care, and the background support of the Senior House Officer showed in the gentle, patient and kind approach of all the staff we met.

I can't assign meaningful marks to the individual categories for obvious reasons - however, I feel sure they would all have been high as we were more than comfortable with everything we saw on our visit.

I now have a Diploma in General Nursing, and both a Level 3 in Health and Social Care and a Level 5 in Leadership and Management of Care Services. I enjoy my role as care home manager and get satisfaction from helping residents and seeing them happy in our home.

I love my job because it's so rewarding leading a team and supporting our residents to live a bright life and putting them and their families at the heart of everything we do.

We do everything we can for them and it's brilliant to see the smiles on their faces. I look forward to meeting you and showing you around our friendly home."

"I have a wealth of experience and have worked in care since 2011. I began my career as a support worker and care assistant. I have worked with young children with challenging behaviour, young adults living in supported housing and have also been an assistant manager and registered manager in a residential care home for older people.

Working in a care setting is rewarding and fulfilling. I enjoy helping people to live a fulfilling life and leading the team to help them develop and grow and embrace the organisation's values, as well as provide the highest standard of care for our residents.

Outside of work, I am a pastor, parent governor and gym enthusiast!"

"I started in care 25 years ago as a care worker, quickly moving to the role of branch manager. In 2011, I became the Registered Manager for a large branch providing domiciliary care. In 2019, I then moved into the compliance side of care, becoming the compliance and office manager for the company, where I started my journey in care.

In 2015, I achieved my QCF level 5 in Health & Social Care. I have also undertaken several other courses to assist me in doing my job to the best of my ability.

I enjoy working with the team at Oakwood Court, supporting the registered manager and other members of the team, continuing to provide the high standard of care here and ensuring that the residents' needs are met and that they are safe and happy.

I am always happy to assist in any way that I can, and to encourage members of staff where possible, to achieve their goals to gain the same level of satisfaction that I get from a very rewarding career."

I have over 25 years experience in catering and have been a Chef Manager here since 2013. I love food and cooking and I understand the importance of food. My father was Spanish and my upbringing has revolved around family and food.

Mealtimes are one of the most important parts of the day, especially for socialising and residents' wellbeing. There's nothing better than seeing residents tucking into a home cooked, hearty meal and getting good feedback from them, it brings joy to me and makes my job rewarding. I am supported in the kitchen by a Chef and two Kitchen Assistants and spend time with residents listening to their feedback and menu ideas.

Jessica James
Jessica JamesJob Title:Senior AdministratorJoined: 2022

I started working at Oakwood Court in April 2022, and coming from mainly an administrative background, this is my first role in a care home. After only being here a short time, I sensed what a warm, friendly, caring home it is. It really does feel like “home from home”. I am the first port of call for all visitors to the home, such as relatives, friends, nurses and tradespeople and I keep all the administrative paperwork up to date. But what I enjoy most about my job is interacting with the lovely residents.

I deliver their post and help read letters from family and friends if they are unable to do so themselves. Seeing the joy on their faces when I am reading to them is what I find so rewarding.

"I take care of the day-to-day maintenance of the building making sure all the checks have been done, including fire and gas safety, water and electrical testing. My role includes more basic tasks such as unblocking shower wells, checking light bulbs and cleaning the bins - just as important! There is generally a lot of cleaning, tidying, and ensuring everything is in safe working order. I will also decorate rooms when they become vacant and keep the rest of the home looking as good as it can be.

I very much enjoy spending time talking to residents when I’m working in their rooms and supporting the care team in any way I can. Sometimes I have the opportunity to join in activities with residents such as gardening or singing, which is a great privilege.

I may have my week planned, but often my work can be reactive, you never really know what you’re going to walk into in the morning, one of the many reasons I love working here."
