I have visited the care home twice now, and both times there has been a good atmosphere. All residents are happy including my grandmother. So thanks to all the staff for everything you do. It's of great comfort to the family to know our family member is well looked after.

Always a nice atmosphere in the home. Warm and inviting. Friendly, helpful staff. My 100-year-old mother has been a resident for three years and as a family, we know that Oakwood Court is the best place that she could be. I would recommend Oakwood Court to anybody who asked me.

My pernickety 95-year-old mother stayed here for a week in mid-August. Her comments were that "the staff were lovely and caring" and "the food was excellent". She appreciated the bowl of biscuits and crisps, so she could have a little snack when she felt like it. She found that her room was larger than expected, never felt cold. She sleeps on an air mattress at home, unfortunately, due to miscommunication, this wasn't provided at Oakwood, but even so, my mother said she was very comfortable in bed, so it wasn't a problem. She said "there wasn't much going on" but I think this was down to the Covid constraints that were in place. I have marked activities as 'poor', however, that is probably not reflective of the current situation.

Mother is making a return visit during November, which tells you a lot!

Mum has dementia; she has been at Oakwood Court since 2013. The staff are all friendly, considerate and caring. Mum has always been happy and well looked after. She has a lovely room with her own furniture. She has a choice of food for all three meals and has never had any complaints. Mum is now 101-years-old, and her dementia now causes more problems, but I am happy that she is very well cared for.

Oakwood Court has recently had their first event, with up to two family members or friends were invited, for the first time in eighteen months. As usual, it was very well organised with party decorations, balloons, an excellent buffet of food and drink and also entertainment.

Throughout the pandemic, the Oakwoods team have shown due diligence throughout this time. My mother has had great care and is so very happy. We could not ask for more.
On dementia care, it's perfect, good stimulating entertainment which is inclusive if the resident wishes to join in. My mother is partially sighted and is always asked to join in.

Lovely setting, good food and wonderful staff.

Review from John S (Son of Resident) published on 1 July 2020 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My dad never wanted to go into a care home, but at 92 he had to due to ill health. I was very pleased with all aspects of this home and my dads' reaction to it. He loved it from day one. Everyone is very caring and welcoming. It is very clean with excellent food served at meal times. Normally they have a wide range of activities for residents, including dancing which my dad loved to do. In January 2020 we found out Dad had terminal cancer, and he asked me to make sure he could stay at the home to the end which he could as they do palliative care. He really wanted to stay there. It was very sad because we wished he could have had several more years there because he was so happy! I would highly recommend this care home as you have no need to worry about your nearest and dearest being safe, clean and happy.

All the staff are excellent caring and warm people. Best wishes.

I am very happy with the care and support that my dad receives at Oakwood Court. He has improved in his mental state despite a general decline due to his dementia. Lots of activities, which my dad is encouraged to join in. There is always something planned.

My mother has resided in Oakwood Court for six months, the staff are attentive and caring with a low turnover and little need for agency carers. The premises are clean and comfortable, with an activity programme catering for most tastes. The general ambience is friendly and welcoming, with an air of quiet efficiency and the opportunities to meet other families at social events is much appreciated.

My mother has lived at Oakwood Court for just over 2 years and now 96. When looking for a suitable home for her I was upset at the state of some places, but as soon as I entered Oakwood Court there was a lovely atmosphere. My mother is very happy and very well looked after. I am notified immediately if there is a problem or if the GP (who visits regularly) has seen my mother. The food is good, there are activities laid on and some entertainment. The home is very clean and my mother is treated with kindness and dignity.

"I have worked at Oakwood Court since 2008, and started as a care assistant. I now have a Diploma in General Nursing, and both a Level 3 in Health and Social Care and a Level 5 in Leadership and Management of Care Services. I enjoy my role as care home manager and get satisfaction from helping residents and seeing them happy in our home.

I love my job because it's so rewarding leading a team and supporting our residents to live a bright life and putting them and their families at the heart of everything we do.

We do everything we can for them and it's brilliant to see the smiles on their faces. I look forward to meeting you and showing you around our friendly home."

"I have a wealth of experience and have worked in care since 2011. I began my career as a support worker and care assistant. I have worked with young children with challenging behaviour, young adults living in supported housing and have also been an assistant manager and registered manager in a residential care home for older people.

Working in a care setting is rewarding and fulfilling. I enjoy helping people to live a fulfilling life and leading the team to help them develop and grow and embrace the organisation's values, as well as provide the highest standard of care for our residents.

Outside of work, I am a pastor, parent governor and gym enthusiast!"

"I started in care 25 years ago as a care worker, quickly moving to the role of branch manager. In 2011, I became the Registered Manager for a large branch providing domiciliary care. In 2019, I then moved into the compliance side of care, becoming the compliance and office manager for the company, where I started my journey in care.

In 2015, I achieved my QCF level 5 in Health & Social Care. I have also undertaken several other courses to assist me in doing my job to the best of my ability.

I enjoy working with the team at Oakwood Court, supporting the registered manager and other members of the team, continuing to provide the high standard of care here and ensuring that the residents' needs are met and that they are safe and happy.

I am always happy to assist in any way that I can, and to encourage members of staff where possible, to achieve their goals to gain the same level of satisfaction that I get from a very rewarding career."

Maria FigueiraJob Title:Chef ManagerJoined: 2013

I have over 25 years experience in catering and have been a Chef Manager here since 2013. I love food and cooking and I understand the importance of food. My father was Spanish and my upbringing has revolved around family and food.

Mealtimes are one of the most important parts of the day, especially for socialising and residents' wellbeing. There's nothing better than seeing residents tucking into a home cooked, hearty meal and getting good feedback from them, it brings joy to me and makes my job rewarding. I am supported in the kitchen by a Chef and two Kitchen Assistants and spend time with residents listening to their feedback and menu ideas.

Jessica James
Jessica JamesJob Title:Senior AdministratorJoined: 2022

I started working at Oakwood Court in April 2022, and coming from mainly an administrative background, this is my first role in a care home. After only being here a short time, I sensed what a warm, friendly, caring home it is. It really does feel like “home from home”. I am the first port of call for all visitors to the home, such as relatives, friends, nurses and tradespeople and I keep all the administrative paperwork up to date. But what I enjoy most about my job is interacting with the lovely residents.

I deliver their post and help read letters from family and friends if they are unable to do so themselves. Seeing the joy on their faces when I am reading to them is what I find so rewarding.

Stephen Dyer
Stephen DyerJob Title:MaintenanceJoined: 2023

"I take care of the day-to-day maintenance of the building making sure all the checks have been done, including fire and gas safety, water and electrical testing. My role includes more basic tasks such as unblocking shower wells, checking light bulbs and cleaning the bins - just as important! There is generally a lot of cleaning, tidying, and ensuring everything is in safe working order. I will also decorate rooms when they become vacant and keep the rest of the home looking as good as it can be.

I very much enjoy spending time talking to residents when I’m working in their rooms and supporting the care team in any way I can. Sometimes I have the opportunity to join in activities with residents such as gardening or singing, which is a great privilege.

I may have my week planned, but often my work can be reactive, you never really know what you’re going to walk into in the morning, one of the many reasons I love working here."
