This was our first time ever using respite care for my mum and sadly the entire administrative experience caused both of us a huge amount of unnecessary stress and upset.
When visiting the home, we were shown several rooms and chose one in particular. We were then told we could not reserve this room until 5 days before arrival. I accepted this, only to call exactly 5 days prior and be told the room had already been allocated to someone else arriving 8 days later. I was extremely upset, as I had written confirmation stating I was not allowed to reserve earlier than 5 days. After raising this with management, the issue was corrected, but this immediately damaged my trust in the communication process.
On the day I dropped my mum off, I specifically asked to pay the full balance and was told the payment made covered everything outstanding.

A week after mum's stay ended, I was shocked to receive a very large additional bill. At no point - verbally or by email - was I ever informed that t

Reply from Kevin Humphrys, Chief Executive at Oakland Grange

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry the administration caused stress - that's not the experience we want for anyone, particularly during a first respite admission.

The room allocation error was corrected promptly, but I realise it shouldn't have happened, and I apologise.

We don't normally...

My mum first came to Oakland Grange after a fall, initially for a short respite stay. From the very beginning, she was made to feel truly welcome by the staff and quickly formed some lovely friendships. She enjoyed her time there so much that on Mother's Day, she chose to spend it at the home, which speaks volumes about how happy and comfortable she felt.
When her stay was due to end, it became clear just how much she was enjoying life at Oakland Grange, and she has since moved in permanently. She is genuinely happy, settled, and thriving in such a warm and supportive environment.
The staff are exceptional-kind, dedicated, and always going above and beyond to ensure residents feel cared for and valued. They create a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where nothing is ever too much trouble, and every resident is treated with dignity and respect.

Oakland Grange has given Mum not just care, but a place where she truly feels at home, surrounded by people who make her happy every day.

Overall Experience
Having had a few respite periods in Oakland Grange my mother in law was always unhappy to return home and therefore has just become a permanent resident. The care from all the staff is second to none, nothing is too much trouble, even for us as visitors, the food is excellent and the Grange is always clean and well maintained.
The management team are always very approachable and have time for both residents and family if they have any queries or problems.
She recently had her 90th birthday whilst in for respite and they made it such a lovely day for her, including a cake and lovely spread for all the family.
There are activities daily, either outside entertainment visiting or participation activities to encourage dexterity and memory. There is also a beautiful garden in which they can sit out or walk around in the nicer weather.

I would certainly recommend Oakland Grange to anyone looking for excellent care for either themselves or for relatives

The support, care and kindness my Mum and our family have received from Oaklands Court Care Home, Felpham, has been outstanding since Mum moved in last January. The staff are all excellent. All staff go over and above and out of their way to be helpful and accommodating of all needs. Care is personalised according to needs and staff have got to know my Mum well and are always kind and respectful. The home is warm, comfortable, welcoming and clean, with lovely rooms, ensuite facilities, comfortable social areas, wonderful food and a wide variety of activities and interesting visits and visitors. As a family we would thoroughly recommend Oaklands Court Care Home, Felpham.

My mother lived at Oakland Grange for a little over two years and always found it a safe and extremely comfortable environment. Though suffering from some (officially undiagnosed) dementia, she was able and encouraged to take part in some of the activities, which she often enjoyed greatly. Staff are very caring as well as practical and efficient. The home is spotlessly clean, with laundry and other services organised well, and there are extras that really make a difference such as themed decorations around the common areas for different times of the year and for festivals - all very impressive. The food is also really good, with special dietary needs carefully and reliably catered for. The lovely, well maintained garden, with plenty of seating to enjoy it, is a huge bonus. We never regretted choosing Oakland Grange and would highly recommend it.

I wasn't impressed by the pillows! The blankets were fine for the mostly mild weather in the 9 days of our stay.

Cleanliness? Whenever I looked in daylight, there was someone dusting, polishing or vacuuming, with a cheerful greeting! The ensuites were winging bright. Food was clearly served and very tasty. I would have preferred an earlier breakfast, but the night and day staff had complex matters to discuss before they met again in evening? It was refreshing to find none of the dreadful, heated rugs we used to get in hospitals and elsewhere, they treat the frail and elderly. Fresh air and a through draft can be very desirable. I am not complaining! Thank you all very much for having Roy and me.

I spent 3 weeks at Oakland Grange following a fall where I fractured my lower leg and ankle. I was non-weight bearing, and needed assistance with all my personal care. The health care assistants were so patient, kind and caring, nothing was too much trouble, and they were always bright and cheerful. The night staff were especially most helpful. The daytime activities were always enjoyable. The meals were very good, my husband enjoyed lunch at the weekends. One problem seemed to be that there was only 1 toilet downstairs is that would take my wheelchair and zimmer frame. There was often a queue for this toilet, especially around meal times. I really enjoyed the garden.
