Vine House is a small, private, family-run residential home which has enjoyed considerable acclaim and many accolades over 35+ years. They pride themselves on their welcoming and homely atmosphere in addition to their first-rate care.

This special home is located on the outskirts of Midhurst, a small market town, in the heart of the South Downs National Park. A wide selection of shops and amenities are close-by. Their own mobility car assists with longer journeys to appointments, a trip to the beach or there’s a popular bus stop just outside.

Vine House is a traditional, large family home with 14 well-furnished bedrooms; all equipped with Nurse Call, a television, Wi Fi, an Amazon Echo and a telephone facility. Residents are encouraged to bring their own furnishings, memorabilia, pictures and knick-knacks to personalise their own bedroom. Twelve bedrooms have en-suite facilities while the remaining two bedrooms have vanity units (wash basins) and have easy access to adjacent bathrooms.

Well maintained gardens boast several separate patio areas to enjoy the summer sun, the wildlife or just watch the world go by! Many residents love to tend to their own individual raised flower beds or contributing to their fruit and vegetable gardens. A private car park can be found at the rear of the home and there is also ample off-street parking available.

The Vine House staff are noted for being compassionate and caring and pride themselves on always providing a high level of round-the-clock care and support. GPs and health practitioners visit whenever needed while a chiropodist, hairdressers and clergy visit regularly. There are a variety of daily activities, special events, local outings and of course there is always time for a cuppa and a chat!

Friends and family are welcome to visit whenever they wish. To join residents for lunch or afternoon tea or just to pop in and say hello - the doors are always open.

A dear was a respite care resident at Vine House, while he recovered from surgery. I have been so impressed by the standard of care it is exemplary. The staff are so attentive and caring. Nothing appears to be too much trouble. I have a lot of experience of social health care settings and Vine House
is undoubtedly top.

After seeing my mother-in-law so happy for the time she's been in Vine House, that tells it's own story. She loves everything about it. The friends she's made with the staff and owner, the activities are fun and also friends amongst the residents. The atmosphere is just so friendly and calming. It's
the happiest I've seen her in years, she's just so content.

The care and compassion that were given to both family and the member of my extended family who was receiving end-of-life care at Vine House was wonderful. Nothing appeared too much for the staff and they regularly checked if anyone needed anything. As well as taking time to explain in a sensitive way
what could be expected of someone whose loved one was dying.

Vine House has created a special place for my mother-in-law. Within two weeks she was calling it home - the staff from carers, chefs and management really want her to have a great day and just be happy - her room is bright and airy and spotlessly clean - and we can visit any time of day. With the home
under new management - lots of things are happening to encourage her out of her room and create a social atmosphere which she was lacking at home - the smile on her face, when we visit, says it all - she's found somewhere to feel safe and looked after - what more can you ask for in a home for your loved one.

Mum entered the care home in May. She had for a long time been very much against the idea of moving into a home but her care needs developed to such an extent that the hospital said it was the only option. All her fears (and ours) evaporated very quickly. She was welcomed as though into a family and
the care she has received has been exemplary. Nothing is too much trouble either for her or those visiting - who are welcomed at any time with a cup of tea or coffee. Their individual wants and needs are catered for and I have seen nothing but compassion and kindness. Mum has dementia and is encouraged to participate in activities downstairs but equally those residents who prefer the privacy of their own rooms have the freedom to do what they want. I have witnessed how quickly the staff respond to the buzzers of residents who choose to stay in their rooms - always quickly and with a smile.

Vine House is a small home and because of that it has a very homely feel, and manages to treat all the residents as individuals. My mother has been a resident for 18 months and her care has been excellent. All the staff are very caring and thoughtful; they manage to adapt the daily care needs they provide
to how she is feeling on that day. Nothing is too much trouble. I'm always kept informed of issues regarding my mum's care, and I'm given a warm welcome when I visit.

Vine House has exceeded my expectations of how wonderful a care home can be. It's always clean and tidy and so is my dad! The staff are all fantastic and have a great relationship with my dad. It's a pleasant atmosphere to be a part of when I visit. The manager is doing a fine job! She is clearly passionate
about her work and cares for residents and their relatives.

The care that my mother has had is excellent. The staff at Vine House are knowledgeable, professional, caring and compassionate . I know that my mother is happy, cared for and in safe hands. A huge relief as I do not live in the UK. The atmosphere in Vine House is warm and welcoming and reflects the
very nature of the home.

My mother was a resident at Vine House Older Persons Residence for nearly seven years. The care and love that she received was exceptional. Sadly, She recently passed away after a short illness. The care that she was given in her last few days was truly remarkable. Myself and my two sisters were able
to stay with her, day and night and the care staff made us feel very welcome and not only cared for our mum in such a compassionate way but also supported us with any physical and emotional needs. All staff went the extra mile to ensure that this very sad and emotional time was made just that little bit less difficult. The carers at Vine House are an incredible team who cares for all their residents with compassion and dignity. Not only are these very special people amazing carers but over the past seven years or so, became great friends with Mum and all our family and I will never forget them. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My beloved mother resided at Vine House Older Persons Residence for seven years after a diagnosis of dementia. During that time, she was cared for with such respect and felt that the carers became her friends. Both she and her three daughters were made to feel like part of a family.
The home is very
small and intimate, it is, above all, homely. It has a beautiful garden overlooking the rolling fields of the South Downs.
There are activities and a garden party in the summer and a Christmas party. The food is freshly cooked each day and is delicious.
Many of the carers have been at the home for years so continuity of care is apparent.
I cannot express how amazing the staff are at Vine House, over the years and our regular visits, we have grown to feel they are friends. No time was more apparent than in the last few months of Mum’s life, when palliative care was excellent, giving Mum and her family so much comfort at a very difficult time. We will never forget this exemplary care.

My stepfather made his own decision to move to Vine House Older Persons Residence as he was struggling to live on his own at his home in Midhurst (he was very independent).
He very quickly settled in at Vine House and made friends easily, helped by the fact it was like home from home (very comfortable,
extremely homely, so friendly and welcoming with excellent food and such lovely, caring staff), he said after a few weeks of just trying it out "this is home now" and he felt comfortable extending his stay, that was very reassuring to hear and that he was happy.
Myself, l can't thank everyone there enough, each and everyone would make me feel welcome when l visited my stepdad and knew who l was and l got to know each of them.
He sadly passed in November last year peacefully and l take comfort in the fact he had such a comfortable stay.

My dad was fortunate enough to spend his final eighteen months at Vine House Older Persons Residence. Having been originally "discharged to assess" from hospital to a care home near him in London, when it became clear that going back home was not an option, I decided to look for a care home nearer to
me, so I could be in closer contact.
By chance, Vine House was the very first I looked at. Compared to the other three I'd considered, I felt I was listened to more and the needs of my dad were understood the most. Moving him in was painless and he settled very quickly, describing it often as "like El Dorado in here!"
He declined, of course, and in his last couple of months when he was not himself, the staff were kind and patient with him. When he eventually passed, they were equally kind and caring to my family and me, as we dealt with our loss.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Vine House to anyone looking for reliable, considerate and professional care for a loved one.

My mother was moved to Vine House after the care home she was in closed. This was a very difficult time for her and the staff were wonderful, making her feel really welcome. Her health was an issue when she moved in and the staff have dealt with it and I am pleased to say there has been a marked improvement.
The staff will always make time for the residents. They have had a barbecue where all the family could go with entertainment laid on and there has been a musician playing one afternoon as well as a speaker, that is just in the two months since Mum has been there. The food is all made fresh in house and she is eating far more than she was eating before. The residents get to choose from a menu what they would like the following day and there is always a good choice. Mum likes her nails painted and one of the nurses has been doing this for her. Myself and all the family are made really welcome when we visit, which has been made easier knowing she is so well looked after.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.957)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.957) out of 10 for Vine House Older Persons Residence is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.957 for Vine House Older Persons Residence is calculated as follows: ( (352 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 368 Ratings = 4.957
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Vine House Older Persons Residence is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 17 registered maximum number of service users is 3.4, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
