Vine House is a small, private, family-run residential home which has enjoyed considerable acclaim and many accolades over 35+ years. They pride themselves on their welcoming and homely atmosphere in addition to their first-rate care.

This special home is located on the outskirts of Midhurst, a small market town, in the heart of the South Downs National Park. A wide selection of shops and amenities are close-by. Their own mobility car assists with longer journeys to appointments, a trip to the beach or there’s a popular bus stop just outside.

Vine House is a traditional, large family home with 14 well-furnished bedrooms; all equipped with Nurse Call, a television, Wi Fi, an Amazon Echo and a telephone facility. Residents are encouraged to bring their own furnishings, memorabilia, pictures and knick-knacks to personalise their own bedroom. Twelve bedrooms have en-suite facilities while the remaining two bedrooms have vanity units (wash basins) and have easy access to adjacent bathrooms.

Well maintained gardens boast several separate patio areas to enjoy the summer sun, the wildlife or just watch the world go by! Many residents love to tend to their own individual raised flower beds or contributing to their fruit and vegetable gardens. A private car park can be found at the rear of the home and there is also ample off-street parking available.

The Vine House staff are noted for being compassionate and caring and pride themselves on always providing a high level of round-the-clock care and support. GPs and health practitioners visit whenever needed while a chiropodist, hairdressers and clergy visit regularly. There are a variety of daily activities, special events, local outings and of course there is always time for a cuppa and a chat!

Friends and family are welcome to visit whenever they wish. To join residents for lunch or afternoon tea or just to pop in and say hello - the doors are always open.

I feel very fortunate to have been able to secure a place for Mum at Vine House. I have heard nothing but good reviews from families of previous and current residents. Since Mum has been resident, it has become clear Vine House is also well known in the local area for the care and commitment of all
staff. The staff are all very thoughtful and caring, not only to Mum, but also to myself. They have been a great help in this difficult transition for mum.

The care and attention given to Mum has been amazing. Also, the support provided to myself at a difficult time, has been above and beyond. I would recommend Vine House to anyone and know that all the staff have Mum's best interests at heart.

The whole team at Vine House are amazing. My gran has only been with them a short while, but has settled in brilliantly. She moved in on her 93rd birthday and the owner arranged a party for her with balloons and a cake. It was a great welcome. The staff are all very sensitive to her needs and have been
instrumental in tackling a repeated UTI. The food is fresh and homemade. The chef is excellent and my gran has started to put on weight. Nothing is too much trouble. The Covid-19 precautions are regularly reviewed and the safety and well-being of the staff and residents are paramount. Placing a relative into a care home/residence is a huge emotional journey for the whole family, but at Vine House, they make it much easier. They are open, honest and knowledgeable. The new manager has lots of experience and is going to be a great asset to the team. Thank you to the owner and the whole team.

I recently attended a summer party organised by the staff of Vine House, where my mother is a resident. The staff were kind, helpful and entertaining from start to finish. The chef's hog roast was excellent, I enjoyed the two-man play that was staged, the pet woman did a great job keeping residents
engaged with all manner of guinea pigs and ducks. There was a visit from an ice-cream van and a raffle stuffed full of prizes. I take my hat off to all the staff, not only did they do a great job looking after residents and visitors, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves too. Thank you.

The care my mum has received in the two and a half years she has been a resident here has been second to none. The staff are absolutely amazing. They care for the residents with love and compassion. Nothing is too much trouble, and the comfort of the residents is their priority at all times. As a family,
we are so pleased that Vine House has been her final home.

Vine House has become my mum's new home now for more than 2 years, the past 18 months of which have been in the eye of the covid storm. It really has been a home-from-home, where there is an overwhelming sense of one big happy family, inclusive, attentive and empathetic. This doesn't just happen by
chance, it happens because all of the staff care, really care about my mum and indeed each and every one of the residents at Vine House. The covid pandemic presented a whole new challenge to the care home team in keeping themselves and the residents safe from this appalling virus. I am truly grateful to each and every member of staff at Vine House for your attention to detail, your vigilance, your personal sacrifice and I salute your collective brilliance.

I just wanted to say how happy and content my dearest friend was when she stayed at Vine house. It wasn't an easy decision to become a resident but needs must etc. Staff friendly and made her feel welcome until the sad end, right down to the handyman! Keep up the good work all!

The staff vary. Some are excellent and other staff are not quite the same, with lack of attention to details ie clothing etc. However, on the whole, they practice excellent care. They are thoughtful and generous in offering care over and above, especially in difficult times.

My mother has been a resident at Vine House Older Persons Residence for 5 years. During this time I have found her care to be of an excellent standard. Over the past 18 months, the manager has tirelessly striven to protect the residents and staff during the pandemic. Both my family and I have derived
great reassurance and comfort from this. This is a small care home with an intimate and homely feel and I would have no hesitation in recommending Vine House.

In April 2021, following a fall, we made the very difficult decision to move my mother from family care to a care home. Vine House was personally recommended to me and from the moment that we made contact with the owner and the Manager, any concerns disappeared. When choosing a care home, you can easily
be fooled by fancy furnishing and heavy marketing which isn't Vine House. What it is, is a care home that really cares and provides a homely atmosphere for its residents. The staff are excellent and most have worked at the home for many years which is a testament in itself. They are so kind to my mother and treat her with the dignity and respect she deserves, plus lots of hugs and cuddles which is so heartwarming and not just for show. We have access to Mum every day and there's never a problem regarding timing or duration. The house is spotlessly clean. Thank you to all those who work at Vine House for caring for my mother so well.

My mother has settled into Vine House really well, even during the challenging time of initial isolation period due to COVID, the team got to know my Mum really well. Post the isolation period, I have met most of the staff, who are all extremely caring towards my Mother at all times and my Mother is
cheerful when I go to visit her twice a week. The staff always go above and beyond and it is of great reassurance that my Mum is in excellent care. Thank you to the management and your team for welcoming my Mum and our family.

My mother has been a resident at Vine House for a couple of years now and my high opinion of Vine House hasn’t changed in all of that time. Obviously we have all been through challenging times recently, but I have to say the staff at care homes have had it tougher than most. I have huge admiration for
the staff at Vine House for delivering the high standard of care they provide in extremely challenging circumstances. As far as I’m aware, they had no cases of COVID-19 in Vine House through the whole pandemic and this speaks volumes for their commitment and diligence. Not only is my mother extremely well cared for, but the manager and the team go above and beyond to meet her needs.

I have lived at Vine House for five years and consider it my home. I love the garden and think it is exceptional. My room is so cosy and it's nice to have beautiful views from the windows of the horses in the fields. The staff have all become friends, as most of them have been here for my stay. My daughters
enjoy visiting me here and get on well with the staff.

I have a friend in Vine House who has been living there for the last two years. Her friends and I are so thankful she was able to go there. The care and kindness shown by the manager and all the staff are amazing. We always feel welcome and feel able to ask any questions about my friend's wellbeing
and staff phone if there are queries about her. It is such a comfort to know she is as safe as possible.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.957)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.957) out of 10 for Vine House Older Persons Residence is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.957 for Vine House Older Persons Residence is calculated as follows: ( (352 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 368 Ratings = 4.957
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Vine House Older Persons Residence is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 17 registered maximum number of service users is 3.4, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
