Buchan House is a care home providing person-centred care for adults aged 65+, including those living with dementia and those with nursing needs.

Situated close to the King Hedges area, north of Cambridge city centre, the home is accessible by car from the A14 and can be easily reached by bus.

Buchan House is divided in to three units, Sunflower, Snowdrop and Iris, over two floors. All rooms are single occupancy with en-suite facilities.
Each unit has a dining area, lounge and a kitchenette as well as bathrooms, shower rooms and toilets throughout the home
The upper floor is accessed by stairs or a lift.

My brother was in Buchan House with severe Dementia for 5 years. The Care was truly outstanding, personal care of a high standard, Social activities encouraged, and lots of fun and laughter. Always we were made welcome at any time to visit and when he was well enough to take him out for afternoons.
The whole home is very clean and fragrant and tidy. Whenever there was any change in his condition we were always notified by the Nursing staff. The end-of-life care was tranquil and efficient. We will never be able to thank them enough for the care and love shown to our Brother.

My wife was in Buchan House around a year and I have to say my gratitude and thanks to all the staff at the premises.
Without being too biased, they looked after my wife with consideration and care.
It was like one big family and was always welcomed with a smile and compassion.

My wonderful father-in-law moved into the home back in July last year, since joining Buchan House Care Home it's like one big family.
Each time we visit, we leave knowing we made the best decision. The care and love all residents receive truly warms my heart, they are all treated like a family member.

I just wanted to put in writing my thanks, and those of my family, for all the care you gave my mother over the almost 2 years she was with you. Having been an independent person for so long, she didn't find it easy to move into a nursing home and she could be difficult. All the staff were very professional
and competent and worked with her to give her the help she needed in the sometimes strange ways she wanted! In turn, she told me about many chats she'd had with the staff mainly on matters that interested her, like the oddities of the English language.
I always found the care staff helpful to me, and ready to make adjustments if ever necessary. I was touched, when clearing her room, to receive so many offers of help, and to see the sadness of the staff when we were exchanging memories.
I would recommend Buchan House without hesitation to others.

My elderly friend lived at Buchan House for around two years. During that time, I found that the staff were careful, easily accessible and always caring. My friend had increasing dementia and always missed her own home, so nowhere would have made her feel happy and totally comfortable, but the facilities
were ok and the staff were always caring, careful and did their best and more. I will always be grateful.

Dad was moved to Buchan House from another home after being discharged from hospital. Because I had covid and couldn't visit, the staff transferred his belongings for me and kept in daily touch regarding his progress. The staff and manager are excellent, punctual, caring and supportive and really go
the extra mile. As a family, we feel reassured and confident that Dad's end of life is expertly and lovingly managed. We would recommend Buchan House to anyone needing a nursing home for their loved ones.

Staff work really hard to look after the residents, which l know first hand can be a very challenging job. They are caring and will do their best to meet the needs of all residents. My mother is looked after very well, the meals are very good and will go out of their way to solve any issues. Staff take
the time to chat to families even when they are very busy, which is most of the time. I am very grateful to the staff and cannot thank them enough for the hard work they do.

My mother has been a resident since September 2020. In the time she has been there, there has been an overall improvement in her physical health. The staff are amazing, they are always pleasant, some are very chatty and jolly. They obviously know my mum well. They post lots of pictures and videos online
for us all to view, lots of activities take place even in these difficult times. They have done a fantastic job in keeping the residents and staff safe in these hard times. The home has now opened up a bit more and we can visit between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm as long as we do a test. Mum's room is always clean and tidy as is her bathroom. I once got there while she was still having breakfast and caught her tucking into eggs and bacon. Mum is very happy as she loves her food. All the staff are great including the admin. So pleased mum is somewhere that I know is caring for her.

Having used another home that we were extremely unhappy with, we moved dad to Buchan House. Our eyes were opened to how wonderful a care home experience could be. All staff, with no exception, were outstanding. Dad was very happy and contented. When dad passed away, the staff treated him with the utmost

My aunt has been in Buchan House for a while now and I have visited on a number of occasions, I always find the staff friendly and very helpful. The home is always clean, tidy and the residents always seem to be enjoying themselves. My aunt is very happy at Buchan and gets on well with all the staff

Tanya

Tanya Logan

Job Title: Home Manager

Tanya joined Excelcare in September 2012 working at Etheldred House as a team leader, Tanya was then promoted to Unit Manager.


In January 2022 Tanya became Home Manager at Brook House, one of our sister homes, and then transferred to Buchan House as Home Manager in September 2023.


Tanya has an NVQ level 2 and level 3 in Health and Social Care and also has a Dementia diploma.

Suja

Suja Mathew

Job Title: Care Manager

Joined: 2012

Suja became the Care Manager at Buchan House in November 2012. Prior to this Suja worked in our sister homes as a Registered Nurse.
Suja has a nursing degree, an NVQ level 4 in Management and is a mentor for nursing students and adaptation.
Suja is responsible for the running of the home in the absence of the General Manager.
