Maycroft Residential Care

Maycroft Care home is exceptional, the decor and ambience inside is lovely and tranquil and the rooms are superb, the staff are first class and the manager is always available for advice if there are any concerns. I cannot wish for a better place for my parents to live and be taken care of.

My father has been at Maycroft for a few months now and we have been absolutely delighted with the care he has received. His room is absolutely beautiful and the whole place is spotless. The food is generous and of such a high standard. The staff are, without exception, kind, caring, welcoming and friendly. They are full of helpful ideas to help make for a very good standard of life for the residents. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for them.

The quality of care at Maycroft is exceptional. The staff are thoughtful and careful with all residents, completely reliable on medication, very attentive to personal safety and engage actively and with a sense of fun with residents. There's a great entertainments schedule with regular activities, e.g. flower-arranging and visits, e.g. from the local church and entertainers, and outings. This was particularly noticeable at Christmas with a party, carol concerts (including from the local primary school) and a trip to the local village panto. A real effort is made to engage all residents and their relations in the activities. My mother is a resident and is really positive about the care she receives from staff and also the quality of food, which is of a very high order and popular. She also loves the regular hairdressing treatment she benefits from. The quality of management, and the attention given to details by the management team, is very evident to regular visitors.

Maycroft did an excellent job of settling my mum into the home when she arrived from overseas. The manager and staff were caring, compassionate and very patient, and my mum soon felt at home. The home itself is a warm, safe and clean environment with great rooms and communal areas to enjoy. The staff are experienced and treat residents with dignity and respect. I visit often, and there is always an array of activities planned for the week that keep my mum and the residents engaged and entertained. There is a varied choice of home-cooked meals and snacks provided which my mum enjoys. I am very happy with my choice in placing my mum at Maycroft and have peace of mind that she is well cared for by the competent team.

My mum moved into Maycroft in October after losing her husband as she has dementia. She also had to move from Scotland. The manager and her staff have been fantastic. Very caring and made us all feel so welcome. They have lots of activities and Christmas was very busy. It made the very difficult experience of moving a parent into care much easier than it could have been.

My mother-in-law has been looked after extremely well since moving to Maycroft four months ago. The staff are kind, thoughtful and really care for her needs. The quality of food, care and cleanliness is very high as is the attention to detail with regards to her needs for daily entertainment and activities.

The communal areas and bedrooms are comfortable, warm and clean. Each resident has a small personal notice board outside their rooms with photographs and memorabilia from their lives, my dad loves this and enjoys showing it off to visitors. It’s a great relief to know that dad is happy and in safe hands. The food is excellent and plentiful.

We are in no doubt that everything possible is being done to accommodate her and make her feel part of the community there. I am particularly impressed with the amount of activities on offer and the friendliness of the staff, who are very patient. There are no complaints, and it is a huge relief to know she is in the right place for her needs.

In supporting my son-in-law and daughter in choosing a care home for a much loved mum, I was acutely aware of the responsibility. Our experience of Maycroft has shown us that the decision was the right one and that she is now having the best quality of life that she can achieve. Of course, the basics like tasty nourishing food and warm, clean and welcoming surroundings are vitally important, but Maycroft has an experienced and caring team of staff that certainly go the extra mile. Unfailingly kind and cheerful and with a clear mission to ensure that all their residents are supported to live as interesting and rewarding lives as is possible. It is also warming to see how much family and friends are encouraged to be part of the Maycroft community and to feel welcome at all times.

My father was resident at Maycroft as he suffered from Alzheimers, and he sadly died there. Throughout his stay however he was treated with dignity and respect by really caring staff. The support shown to him, and to all the family, at a very difficult time was hugely appreciated. There is a lot of love in Maycroft and we would highly recommend it to others who needed the help of this professional and extremely compassionate team. Thank you.

I have visited Maycroft for about a year now with my dog. I have a nursing background and am impressed with the team leaders in particular. Their enthusiasm and care filters through the team.

The care is very good in the home, with appropriate activities provided for residents. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable with en-suite facilities which are very good. The food is also good and the residents all seem happy living at Maycroft.

The manager runs a tight ship and leads an excellent team. She and all the carers, cooks, maintenance staff, volunteer drivers and others who visit to lead activities are genuinely caring and respectful and treat everyone with dignity. I am particularly impressed with the attention paid to meals. Food is always freshly prepared and served in an environment conducive to eating and enjoying food. Tables laid with linen and cutlery, flowers, drinking glasses/cups, condiments. Each resident is always asked individually what they want and can indicate their choice verbally or by pointing. People who cannot manage themselves are fed by very diligent carers on a one-to-one basis and it takes as long as it takes. Few older people want to ‘end up’ in care and is difficult for relatives and loved ones. My experience of Maycroft over the last 6 months is that everything possible is done to ensure people enjoy life as much as possible and live in a safe, secure, stimulating and comfortable home.

Maycroft is a wonderful place. The staff are truly excellent and go out of their way to provide a superb standard of care. The atmosphere at Maycroft is ‘home from home’ - it feels very homely and not in any way institutional. The planning and attention to detail which has gone into the new building is remarkable - it is light and airy and has been very tastefully decorated and furnished and the communal rooms and bedrooms are lovely. Having said that, however, it is the staff who make Maycroft what it is - nothing is too much trouble for them and they are really proactive in their approach to care. There is a wide range of activities and entertainment with trips arranged which try and cater for the individual’s interests. I have real peace of mind knowing that my sister is being very well cared for.

The new building is superb and the staff are always on hand to offer guidance and advice, as and when necessary. The home is extremely secure (perhaps sometimes too secure when I'm trying to leave!) and is set in a lovely village environment with peaceful gardens. Thank you.

I would recommend Maycroft in Royston to anyone considering a care home. The manager and the team looked after my Father for over a year and he was very happy there. The team are caring, conscientious and professional and the new facilities are delightful.

Can't wait until they move into the new purpose built building.

Maycroft couldn't be better. I felt totally secure in the knowledge that my dad was being treated with the utmost kindness and retained his dignity at all times. From the manager to the kitchen staff, I never saw anything other than kindness. I must say that the home intended to myself when the end was near.

My father loves it here and is very happy. A wonderful place run by wonderful staff. My father has improved immensely since arriving here.
