Primrose Croft is a 38 bedded care home providing person-centred care for adults aged 65+, including those living with dementia.

The home is within walking distance of the River Cam and local shops and is only a short bus ride away from Cambridge City Centre, which has a range of shops including a Post Office, banks, supermarkets, and bakers, along with pubs, restaurants and cafes and a market every day.

Primrose Croft is divided into 2 units over two floors. All rooms are single occupancy, with 10 rooms having en-suite facilities.

Each unit has a dining area, lounge and a kitchenette as well as bathrooms, shower rooms and toilets throughout the home.

The upper floor of the home is accessed by stairs or lift. All areas of the home are accessible for wheelchair users.

Primrose Croft provides:

My mother has been a resident in Primrose Croft for 5 months. She has settled in well and is very happy with all aspects of her care. She has been treated with dignity and respect at all times and her care has been outstanding. All the staff and carers are friendly and helpful and the happy, supportive
family atmosphere is evident at all times.
Standards of cleanliness and nutrition are very high and the management and carers go much further in providing entertainment for the residents and organising the meeting of their spiritual needs. An excellent care home which I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

This was the first time that Mum had gone into a care home for a respite break and I think we were all a bit apprehensive. We received a friendly welcome and were taken up to Mum’s room and given a little tour which was very reassuring. Mum was a little upset when we left her but I rang the next day
and was assured that she was settling in. I rang again later in the week and was passed to the carer responsible and she assured me that I had nothing to worry about. She passed the phone to Mum and we had a chat which was nice. I received a call the morning we collected Mum as she had a fall early morning and a nurse had attended to dress a couple of flesh wounds on Mum’s hand and arm. I was very impressed with the level of care provided and the way that the home manager made a point of speaking to us both at the beginning and end of Mum’s stay. Mum has always been reluctant to attend day centres but she really settled in here and said that she would be happy to visit again.

Primrose Croft offered a secure and positive lifestyle for my elderly relative. She was well looked after and supported throughout her time at Primrose Croft. The carers were kind and considerate and treated her with care and dignity throughout her time there. End of life care was of a very good standard
and enabled a variety of visitors to support our relative during her final days.

All staff regardless of whether they are regular or agency staff are warm and welcoming.
The home is cosy and furnished well.
Unfortunately, on the day I visited my mother the vases of flowers in residents lounges were very much past their best. A small point within the much larger picture but no
less important.
I was saddened to find some aspects of my mothers not being met and spoke to the lead staff member in charge.
I hope that I find the care issues concerned rectified on a regular basis.

Can not fault this care home, my mother uses it for respite and loves it. The staff are all polite, friendly, caring and nothing is too much trouble, always there for all the user's needs. They always make everyone welcome and put them at ease, they really look after the service user which is a weight
off your mind especially if it's the 1st time you have put your loved one in a care home. I know I can drop her off here and enjoy the rest without worrying about my Mum as she's in good hands.

When I took Mum to the care home it was the first time she had been away from home and I found it very homely and Mum settled in very quickly. I have visited on different days and times and always found the staff extremely welcoming and readily available to answer any questions, this also applies to
others who have phones to see how Mum is getting on. Although the building is not new it is always clean and tidy. I have not stayed for dinner but the meals serviced are very varied, they look and smell very appetising. Other members of the family visit and they agree with our observations. I have been exceptionally pleased with the care my Mum has received from all members of staff and how helpful they have been.

Excellent staff, care and service but a refurbishment and update is desperately needed. Décor is very dated and the individual rooms could do with en suites.

Rachel started working in care when she was 17 and has completed various training and development courses including NVQ levels 2, 3 and 5.


Rachel has been a care home manager since 2015 and started her Excelcare journey in March 2020 when she joined the family at Primrose Croft.

Benny started his career in care as a Kitchen Assistant in 2006 and then as a Chef at another care home in 2008. Benny begun working as a Healthcare Assistant in 2008 and worked his way up to become a Team Leader in 2009. Benny has achieved his NVQ level 3.
Benny started at Primrose Croft Care Home as a Team Leader in 2013 and was promoted to Deputy Manager in December 2018.
