My husband has been a resident at Queens Court, in Osborne, for over two years. In that time has slowly deteriorated due to Alzheimer's but the care and and attention he has received has been so reassuring to me and my family. We are always made welcome, whenever we go, and included in any activities that are being held then. We celebrated our Diamond Wedding Anniversary this year and our daughter with the help of the staff and carers made it very special. The atmosphere is positive and caring with each of the residents being treated as individuals. The various social activities that are arranged for families to join in with their relatives are outstanding, Afternoon Teas, Valentine's Celebrations and joining residents for Christmas Lunch are much appreciated. Last, but not least all the staff are a joy and this makes visiting my husband so much easier knowing he is safe and sound.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. Queens Court prides itself on supporting our residents and, we recognise that our families at times also need support, even if it is making arrangements to celebrate special occasions, such as your diamond wedding. Thank you for always supporting Queens Court by attending events that we put on.

My mother was at Queens Court for the last 3 years of her life and was very well looked after.
When she/we were choosing the home it was during COVID lockdown, but the staff helped us to get a good impression of the home via pictures, which proved realistic.
For the first 18 months, my mother was in the Sandringham unit, in a lovely and quite spacious room. She had her own phone, internet connection etc. Later on, she had to be moved to Osborne (dementia) unit, where she had a smaller, but adequate, room. The staffing ratio in this unit was noticeably higher, and the level of understanding and care was excellent.
Osborne unit is being significantly upgraded, with workmen replacing electrical and plumbing - but the home worked around this well.
Throughout we felt that Mum was well cared for, and we were always kept informed of her wellbeing, and when she needed any additional medical care etc. Staff always knew who we were when we visited.

We would happily recommend Queens Court.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review us, it's always lovely when families do think of us, especially after the loss of a loved one. Mum was quite a character who kept us all in order. Mum obviously lived a very interesting life. She loved to chat about her travels to India, and early...

I find the staff generally helpful and friendly. The accommodation is good. The activities provided are generally good and enjoyable.
Food is simple and of quite good standard.

Management feels fairly remote. I cannot comment on the standard.

My mother moved into Queen's Court recently and is very happy there. The staff have been consistently kind, caring and helpful. There are many activities for her to join in with, and her room is very comfortable. Our family are very happy to know she is being so well looked after, while also being encouraged to keep as independent as possible.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review. Your mum is an absolute pleasure; she has settled well, joins in with the day centre and is often seen sitting and chatting with other residents. It's also lovely that you are so local and able to pop in regularly to see her.

This review is not for any particular time slot, but for from day one of my stepfather moving in.

I always find all the staff so friendly and dedicated. You can tell that they are doing the job they are doing because they enjoy their work. Nothing is too much trouble and they are always looking to tweak what they do with residents to improve and make their lives more comfortable. I always tell my friends how excellent Queens Court is and have no hesitation in recommending the Care Home.

My mother has been in the care home for six months and in that time she has experienced incredibly high-quality care. The staff are always polite and friendly, despite the fact that my mother can be quite rude to them due to her dementia. The number of staff present is very high compared to other care homes I have experienced – there is always someone on hand. There is a range of activities taking place each day which get my mother out of her room and allow her to socialise and I know that she really enjoys the activities. The care home has a really happy atmosphere and I have no worries at all about leaving my mother there as I know she’s in good hands.

Reply from Yvonne Dawson, Home Manager at Queen's Court

Thank you so much for the review. Mum is still finding her feet in the home; she is joining in with activities and the day centre and has developed a circle of friends. Mum has settled really well, she just has odd days when there is a bit of a wobble but they are now few and far between.

My mum has been in Queens Court since March. She received a lovely welcome which made me realise that I would not need to worry about Mum. The staff are outstanding. They are so caring and friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere at the home, it feels like one big family. Whenever I visit the staff give me updates on Mum. I don’t know how they know all the residents as well as they do. The manager is outstanding. She leads by example. She is so caring and understanding. Thank you all so much.

Thank you so much for the lovely review. I know making the decision to move Mum into a home was not easy. Mum however joins in with activities in the home; she is often in our day centre and will go on outings when offered. Mum has a number of people she will sit and chat with, she has even found the vacant chair in the manager's office.

I have just visited my father in Queens Court and was delighted to see how well he looked. He had gained a little weight and was bright in mood and keen to get into the fresh air. The staff were very helpful in helping prepare for his trip out, locating his dentures and a nice shirt. Later when we returned management spent time talking to myself and my father about what was on offer for his entertainment and offered the possibility of theatre or cinema trips which excited my father. He also played the game Connect Four and beat me four times! The only room for improvement was ensuring that his belongings were checked daily as things went missing easily despite (usually) being given name tags. He also needed some support with ensuring the TV in his room was programmed for one particular channel and he had a radio which had been in for repair longterm. He hoped to get more exercise so I was delighted to get an exercise form to complete in preparation for this.

My father-in-law made a surprise decision in September 2022. He decided that he could no longer cope with independent living. Within a week, Queen's Court found a room for him and he moved in. He felt at home almost immediately, taking part in all the activities and responding to the kindness extended to him by all the staff and management. On the occasions that we have taken him out for social or health visits he has always told us on his return that it is good to be home. The staff are always friendly and helpful whenever we visit or telephone. Without doubt, we chose the right place for my father-in-law when we had to make what was a very difficult decision.

Overall Queen’s Court provides very good care for my mother who has been a resident for five years.
Employed staff are excellent, know Mum well and are therefore able to predict her daily needs.
My one criticism would be the main meal of the day when too much is given to Mum to eat. A portion half the size would be sufficient, making eating easier and saving Queen's Court money.
More use of the minibus for outings would also be nice, possibly to an Abbey where family could meet and help with patients. although I realise this is tricky with those who are wheelchair-bound.

These are minor criticisms and overall I am very pleased with the care.

Reply from Yvonne Dawson, Home Manager at Queen's Court

Thank you so much for the review, I have noted what you said about the portion size; we are a service that likes to think our residents are well-fed, but I also know a full plate can be off-putting. There are outings arranged, for a small number of residents at a time, so they appear to be not as frequent as desired.

My aunt has been in Queens Court for several years, the support she has had and the care she has received simply could not have been better. The staff demonstrate great patience and deal with some very challenging behaviour from her with respect for her dignity, firmness and compassion. They keep me well informed at all times.

My mum has been a resident for five years. As a community nurse with 40 years of nursing and in the care of the elderly, I was in no doubt which home, I wanted my mother, to go to. From the minute we arrived to the last time I visited, two days ago, Queen's Court has been outstanding in every way.

Their wonderful understanding and appreciation of my mum’s individual needs are met daily and are provided by a dedicated team of staff, who work incredibly hard to ensure a safe and loving home for Mum. As I always say to them, if I could clone you, then every home would have a Queen’s Court team and I would proudly work with any of the staff. Every time I leave my mum, I know she is happy, incredibly well looked after and that I will be made aware of any concerns or changes they have made in her care. For me, the home ticks every box and continues to deserve its QCQ Outstanding award!

Queens Court's care for my uncle was excellent. It is clear that he was loved and his presence in the care home was valued. I could see that once he settled in he was happy here and despite his Alzheimer's/dementia, he played a positive role in the home simply by his presence and his easy-going nature. Having lived for many years alone and having become progressively isolated whilst living on his own, he blossomed here amongst the community at Queens Court. I cannot thank the staff enough for the way he was looked after.

Mum has dementia and at times is very restless and challenging. All the staff are always very caring with Mum and find ways to help and look after her which she is happy with. They involve her with the other residents in music and singing activities which Mum loves. They chat with Mum and have got to know her history so they can help her to remember where she has come from, her life story.

My mum now unfortunately needs more care in Queens Court which she has been in for over 2 years. The move to the Osbourne unit with extra carers has been so good for her, they have contacted and kept me updated with her health problems since April 2023.

I cannot thank all the three different units Mum has been on enough for their care, which means we know she is being looked after and safe 24/7 since she went to the care home.

Reply from Yvonne Dawson, Home Manager at Queen's Court

Thank you for taking the time to review. Mum's needs have obviously changed in the time she has spent with us, thankfully Queen's Court has been able to accommodate this, by Mum moving units, as each unit provides a different level of care according to need. It’s a pleasure to support your mum.
