Bilney Hall offers a splendid environment for gracious living. The Hall dates back to the 19th century yet its luxurious facilities are very much 21st century. Generous single rooms, all with en-suite facilities, are tastefully decorated and provide residents with the necessary facilities for a quality life in later years. The Home provides residential care for frail elderly residents and has separate wings for those with dementia. Although all rooms are fully furnished, staff encourage residents to bring with them items of furniture and personal possessions so that their room can be a true home from home.

Bilney Hall is situated in the picturesque village of East Bilney, just a few miles from the market towns of Dereham and Fakenham. Set in six acres of extensive grounds, residents can relax in the stunning walled garden and wooded parkland which surround the home allowing them to really enjoy this haven within the beautiful Norfolk countryside.

Care staff are trained to the highest standards, using an internal training programme, and chosen not only for their skills but also for their warmth, friendliness and caring attitude. They are on hand around the clock to provide professional care that respects the rights and dignity of the individual. The emphasis placed on high quality staff was recently rewarded when the company received ‘Investor in People’ accreditation.

They regularly assess each resident so that they can be sure their needs are met and supply specialised equipment if required. An optician, dentist, and chiropodist visit by appointment, and the in-house hairdressing salon provides all the usual services plus manicures and hand massages. The catering staff provides delicious meals and snacks throughout the day, as well as special dishes for those with particular dietary requirements.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I am sure that selecting a Care Home for a close relative, in our case my 93 year old mother, is both a difficult and emotional event. My mother had to go into care in March this year after spending 8 weeks in hospital; until this time she had continued to live on her own with daily care attendance.
She was adamant that she did not want this course of action but regrettably there were no other options. We visited and considered a number of homes in Norwich before finally visiting East Bilney Hall where we were immediately impressed by the facilities and caring nature of the staff; inevitably we considered the CQC report which put some doubts in our mind but we went with our instincts.

Mother finally died last week but during the 6 months she was there she received exemplary care and attention which far exceeded our expectations in view of the CQC report which was a testament to the Management and Staff. When the inevitable finally happened she was treated with care and total dignity. We would have no hesitation in recommending this Care Home to anybody.

Bilney Hall looked after my father for 2.5 years before his death in October 2015. I cannot sing their praises high enough! The staff were all caring, loving and professional helping my father's last years to be happy and contented. The whole atmosphere of the Hall is lovely.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.820) out of 10 for Bilney Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.820 for Bilney Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (294 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 350 Ratings = 4.82
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bilney Hall Care Home is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

“The quality of care is high, and the staff know the residents well. The main senior team have been long-serving and is passionate about the home and its residents.”

Her interests outside of work are Pilates and cycling. Her husband is cooking a Jamie Oliver 15-minute meal on a Saturday (usually takes 2 hours), and a weekend drive in a classic Alfa Romeo.

The thing Nikki most enjoys about working at Bilney Hall is working with such a great team.

I have worked at Bilney Hall for 11 years now. I started as a Carer, having worked for the domiciliary side of healthcare homes. Over the years, I have progressed through job roles, whilst completing additional qualifications. I became a medication assistant, then progressed to senior, the head of care and now deputy manager. In 2020, I also completed my nursing associate foundation degree.

“I decided to work at Bilney Hall as I had worked in domiciliary care, I wanted a fixed place of work where I could care for people and have a positive impact. My favourite part of my day is making a resident's day and being told you’re appreciated and loved, especially in these times where we are the only people our residents see on a regular basis.”
