Burgh House is a two-storey building set in the rural landscape of coastal Norfolk and ensures residents lead as full a life as possible in a warm, friendly and caring environment.

The single and double bedrooms at Burgh House have en-suite facilities and are attractively furnished and decorated. Each room has a phone and television point and residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms to create a home-from-home environment.

The house also has two communal lounge areas, including a quiet lounge where residents can read and relax, or a large, more lively lounge which features a large screen television.

My mother was a resident in Burgh House for 13 very happy years and I continue to visit her friends there weekly. The place is always very clean and fresh. The food looks good too. Entertainment and fun organised for each day, lots of laughter. Staff friendly and helpful, even though they are very busy.
It
would suit me very well to end up there - but not just yet!!

Home from Home!

Support & care is second to none. The manager is very supportive & professional. When my mother moved into B House (aged 90) her Life expectancy was 8 weeks. 14 months on, she is looking forward to her Granddaughters wedding Sept 2017! This has been achieved by a combined effort

from the manager and his staff & the love of family.

The telephone is always answered by a human being! The manager and his efficient secretary are always available to respond to enquiries. It isn't unusual to see him participating in a game of bowls with his residents!

Over the past 12 months, my mother has been taken to 'The Sealife Centre' & couldn't wait to tell me that the manager had given her plenty of coppers for the slot machines! They went out for a Christmas Dinner & were also taken to see 'Aladdin' at 'The Pavilion'. Mum also enjoyed a trip to the Circus. Over the past 14 months, Burgh House has hosted 3 lovely Garden Parties with refreshments & live music for the resident's &their families.

Reply from Joseph Greiner, Registered Manager at Burgh HouseHi, thanks so much for this review, it has been a pleasure caring for your mother and we can't wait to see her celebrating on the day of the wedding.

I now have my two Nan's as residents of Burgh House, one has been a resident for just over a year, the other one is only just settling into her new surroundings, who is enjoying the company of others, and joining in with the weekly activities. What is so lovely is that the management arranged a room
for both of them to share, they have known each other for years, one is 99 the other is 97, (they love putting the world to rights between them).
Each of them requires different care needs, which are always met and carried out to a very high standard with, dignity, respect, love and care at all times. All the staff are always friendly and everyone greeted with a smile, nothing is too much trouble for any one of them, what ever their needs are at different times of the day or night.
Burgh House is always bright fresh and airy, and all residential bedrooms and social areas are always kept spotless at all times.
Burgh House is a professional, happy and welcoming home.

I find Burgh House the next best place from home. Cozy, comfortable and caring. The carers there are wonderful so dedicated to their jobs and nothing is too hard or difficult for them to do. Pleasant atmosphere, fresh and love to smell the food cooking. The management is very friendly, knowledgeable
and easy to talk to. Thank you, Burgh House and staff for caring so much about your residents.

The management and staff took my son (now 59 years) into Burgh House, although they had had no experience of anyone with his disability before.
He had a massive brain bleed resulting in him having a stroke down the left-hand side of his body and there was nowhere else for him to go.
He has been there
15 months now and has settled very well and I am grateful to management and staff for the excellent care being given to him.

Both my mother and father are well cared for at Burgh House, sharing a room together. The manager was incredibly helpful and swiftly arranged for them to be accommodated for even though it was over the busy Christmas period 2016. The manager had previously been helpful a year or more before but sadly
my parents were not ready to make the change which was a pity as my mother then deteriorated and was in a hospital for some time due to being so unwell.
My mother and father have a lovely room and I know they are well cared for. They have been in a care home in another location which was less than adequate and I was very concerned about them being there. It was very upsetting. I visit them now, with the knowledge that they are fine. I am informed about their health and the staff are always on hand to help with anything. There are regular planned activities for them to enjoy.
I visit regularly after work and a member of staff will often bring me a cup of tea, which is very thoughtful.

My sister and I moved our parents to Burgh House last December (2016) from London. From the outset, the staff were so kind and welcoming and did everything to help settle them into their new surroundings. I am so impressed by the standard of both care and accommodation. As I am not local and cannot
visit weekly, I need to relax in the knowledge that they are both safe, well cared for and above all happy - and I can. There are always plenty of staff on hand and no one ever seems to be too busy to attend when needed.
The staff at Burgh House have managed to create a family home environment where the residents are treated as such and not 'patients'. I cannot thank or praise them highly enough.
Reply from Joseph Greiner, Registered Manager at Burgh HouseHi Yvonne, thank you so much for your positive comments, we are so happy your mum and dad have settled so well into their new lives here at Burgh House. I will pass your feedback onto the staff as it is their determination, care and hard work that makes our home so special. Thanks again.

Our stepmother settled in gradually after her initial respite care and despite various upsets with her general physical and mental health (to be expected at 93!) she is faring well and quite happy at Burgh House. The home liaises with us (as LPAs) if there are any problems and one particular health
issue has now been solved with medication after appropriate professional advice and support from the home's Manager and his hardworking, understanding staff. Other problems are sorted meaningfully and respectfully and we are never treated (or is our Stepmother with any disdain by a happy care team!

On behalf of my family, I would like to say a big thank you to the management and staff for the love and care they gave my Mum during the years she was resident at Burgh House. I know she could be very trying times but the staff were excellent.
Everything was done to provide care so that she could
end her days in her own surroundings with as little pain and suffering as possible.
Burgh House provided a programme of entertainment that residents can participate in if they wish.
Mums wishes were always tended to by willing staff, from delivering meals to toilet needs anytime night and day.
We had no worries about Mums care, with peace of mind that she was being well looked after.
Thank you all very much.

Like many other people, I was very sceptical when my friends family informed me that they were placing their mother into a care home. I have completely changed my mind. Burgh House is truly a very special place. The staff are very helpful, polite and clearly genuinely care about their residents. There
are activities going on every day, church services at the home and regular entertainment. Families and friends are welcomed with a smile from all staff and they are able to stay and eat with their relatives/friends if they wish.

I would highly recommend Burgh House and know where I am going when the time comes.

Reply from Joseph Greiner, Registered Manager at Burgh HouseThank you so much for your positive comments I will pass this onto the staff who work so hard to improve standards for the people who choose to live in our care. Many thanks.

I would like to thank all of the staff at Burgh House for their constant and fantastic care towards my Grandmother. The level of care received is outstanding, she has had a fantastic time, from personalised lunches to games and fun! I'm not sure she wanted to come home! The staff are so friendly and
the place is so homely. We spoke to other residents when we dropped Nan off who were excited to see her back for another visit. Staff had remembered Nan by name which was special as I can imagine they see several faces during the course of a year. Nan always compliments how gentle and caring the care staff are with regards to her personal care. The staff at Burgh House are a credit to the management team. I truly believe that they are this fantastic due to excellent management supporting them.
Thank you, Burgh House for being the perfect place for respite for Nan.

Invited to a garden party before moving in, excellent way to introduce her to her new home. Was quite clear that this was going to be a great home for mum to move into. The Lady who had given up on living, eating, not getting up in her previous home has now changed to a completely different person.
Eating the excellent food provided, getting up, and actually smiling again. She has been made very welcome by all. The manger is very hands on with residents, such a genuine caring manager. He is willing to help and please both mum and family. He is approachable, honest and very professional. Nothing is too much trouble for the carers/staff. Mum is treated with respect, she does have her health problems but this is being extremely well managed. She has a wicked sense of humour which has returned, this is down to the friendliness and caring of the excellent staff. Mum walked holding a carers hands for the 1st time in a year, this is proof of the excellent care she is getting in a great home.
Reply from Joseph Greiner, Registered Manager at Burgh HouseThank you so much for this amazing feedback, we are so grateful for your positive comments and that we are able to assist your mum in becoming the old mum again. Burgh House is an excellent care home. A few months back we had to put my mum into a care home after caring for her at home was no longer a option. Our first choice was Burgh House. My mum has never been so happy, it is like she has a new lease of life, and this is down to the excellent care of management
and all staff. The home puts on excellent events and entertainment and makes the families feel at home, as well as the residents.
The meals are excellent and residents get a choice every day. The home is always spotless and residents have a choice of day rooms. Their bedrooms are very bright and the whole home has a very homely feeling from the moment you walk through the doors. Thank you to the management and all the staff for making my mum feel very welcome.

My nanny has settled in very well here and is very happy. She has been made to feel very welcome and part of the family. She loves the staff and is always saying how wonderful they are and that they will do anything for you. She says the food is really lovely too.

She has been encouraged to join

in with the activities on offer which she has done and she seems to have enjoyed everything she has taken part in. She has no complaints at all.

She was living with my mum and dad for a few years before moving here and it was a tough decision but we know we have done the right thing, she is in the best place, and to be honest we should have gotten her in here sooner.

This care home is a really lovely place, with wonderful staff who always do their best for the residents and they also make the visitors feel welcome too.

A lovely, friendly, welcoming and fun care home which "cares".

My wife's aunt spent the last 6 years of her life at Burgh House. She said they were the happiest years of her life. The other residents seem very happy there as well. Lots of entertainment is laid on and the lounge is bright with windows that let much light in. The home is clean and doesn't have the
stale smell some care homes have when you enter them. The manager is friendly and helpful and genuinely seems to have the residents' best interests at heart.

When it became necessary for my sister and I to find a home for our father who, despite having severe vision loss, had stayed remarkably independent in his own home, we were concerned that he might find the transition a struggle. As soon as we met the manager and saw Burgh House we immediately felt
a sense of relief and observed the staff really taking time to get to know our father as well as taking great care of him. Living far away was stressful, however there was excellent communication from the manager whenever medical care was required and the staff were on the ball regarding health concerns, such that any problems that did arise were nipped in the bud. Our father resided there for 20 months and when we saw him laughing and singing we knew that this had been the right decision. The atmosphere upon entering Burgh House at any time was always found to be uplifting, with caring staff always willing to take the time to listen, despite their very busy schedules.
Reply from Joseph Greiner, Registered Manager at Burgh HouseThank you so much for your kind comments it was an absolute pleasure having the opportunity to get to know your father. Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.629)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.629) out of 10 for Burgh House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.704 for Burgh House is calculated as follows: ( (150 Excellents x 5) + (47 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 203 Ratings = 4.704
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Burgh House is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 53 registered maximum number of service users is 10.6, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
